Review for CAPE INGENUE/E.Bard
Set along the rugged coast of Nova Scotia, CAPE INGENUE is a YA thriller that features strong, realistic dialogue, beautifully described natural settings and great action scenes. The life that sixteen year old Sandrin and her friends live in the small town of Schill Harbour seems rather grim and dark, almost dystopian. Sandrin dreams of being a novelist. After school and on the weekends, she works long hours at a small restaurant and she agonizes over lousy tippers....more

Cape Ingenue was a really interesting, original and intriguing book. It is set in Schill Harbour, Nova Scotia, a small town where Sandrin lives with her friends. She has a really normal live: she goes out with her friends, she works in a pizzeria to pay school fees and other stuff, and she loves to write novels. Until, all of a sudden, her life takes a turn with the discovery of the death of the guy she liked. From that moment, she is dragged into a new adventure with Colt, a mysterious boy, fro...more

I received a copy of this ebook in exchange for a review.

Schill Harbour, Nova Scotia is a small town with a long history of local folklore. From pirates to British sea captains and everything in between, there is no lack of lore to keep the residents in tall tales for generations. It is in one of these legends that sixteen-year-old Sandrin finds herself wrapped up in as she and her friends find themselves involved in a series of very unfortunate events.

The banter in this novel is witty, the vo...more

CAPE INGENUE takes place in a small town of Schill Harbour, Nova Scotia, E. Bard's description of this small town is so beautifully done. The main character Sandrin is sixteen, dreams of being a writer, and works in a restaurant after school and on weekends. When a boy she is interested in turns up dead, Sandrin takes action to find out what happened. She then turns to local bad boy Colt for his help, but she is not sure she can trust him. And this is when the mystery starts to unravel and it se...more

Too think that the author put this together in a month has me amazed at his creativity! Thank you E. Bard for the opportunity you gave me in reading your story. I really enjoyed it and I was immediately swept up in this wonderful tale. I will be looking forward for more novels from E. Bard. I fell for bad boy Colt, and liked Sandrin immediately, good job on both characters. I really don’t tinker in crime/mystery novels but this story made me look at this genre again. I only wish that more info o...more

Cape Ingenue, the second book I read to review in my Goodreads book club, is a mystery book by author E. Bard (I don’t know what the E stands for, so don’t ask me..:D)

Well, the story was good, very good in fact. It started when Sandrin and friends decided to spend some time at the waterfall. But their good fun turned into tragedy when they found the dead body of their friend, Kevin, floating in the water. It seemed that he was dead since the day before, like he has fallen of the cliff to his dea...more

I received this book free of charge from the author in exchange for an honest review.

The book starts out with the main characters one day boyfriend dying and it just gets crazier from there. This book is filled with mysteries, folklore and action.but it's also filled with a lot of filler in the middle. Mostly you follow the lives of the main characters. A bunch of this information you don't really need to have. I liked the characters.

Sandrin is the main girl character and I found her to be brave...more

I really liked the story, and Sandrine was a very relatable main character - she sounded, to me, very much like your typical teenager. I would love to read more from this author, though I did have to take off stars for:
- digressions - background information is good. but if it doesn't add to the story, it is simply confusing. there were several times where i had to go back and re-read sections to remember what was going on in the first place.
-description - the author has some lovely passages, alm...more

3.5/5.0

In this mystery, E. Bard describes the characters in a way that makes readers feel like they know and understand them while still wanting to know more.

Read full review in the 2012 July/August issue of InD’tale Magazine.

To be very honest I felt the story lagged. Some books are too quick, but this was the opposite. I read about 5-8 pages where the author did almost nothing at all. I literally had to force myself to keep on reading. I saw the direction this plot was going to take from the other side of the world.

I was very excited when I first started 'Cape Ingenue' because right away there was intrigue but as I read on it seemed the author sort of ran out of steam and just splashed on a few more chapters and ca...more

I really enjoyed reading this book. The story is captivating, the main characters well developed and really enjoyable. The book never gets boring, keeps your attention stuck to it all times and is overall a book to recommend to everyone who likes an great story by an author who will hopefully publish plenty of books in the near future. I truly liked the way E. Bard writes and will surely follow this author and the upcoming books from nearby! A book worth buying, keeping and re-reading multiple t...more

Such a good read! Was really fast paced and interesting! I enjoyed the couple although I wasn't sure they were going to work out. the mysteries within the text are confusing until the end, but I liked that. I also really enjoyed the author's notes which provided info that it was a month write and that it was meant to be enjoyable and fictional. Some typos along the way, but a great read considering it was for a monthly write. Thank you so much to the author or allowing me to review&goodreads!

As an author I'm inspired by my children, the chilly Atlantic waters and the rocky coastal landscape of Nova Scotia. Most of my novels are YA adventure mixed with mystery or horror and possibly a friendly romance or two. As a reader, I'm a sucker for a good thriller, horror, para, scifi, mystery... and of course almost any YA or children's fiction.

I'm always open to recommendations and will happil...more
