Jack is a very smart boy who is eleven and is a master librarian with his sister Annie. Annie is a adventures, ten year old girl. Morgan is an Librarian, in the renaissance time, who collects type of books from different time and locations for her library. Morgan has a magical tree house that goes to were ever you wish. Morgan’s tree house in the forest by Jacks and Annie's house. Well, anyways Jack and Annie went to the tree house in the middle of the night and wished to go to Pompeii, Ro...more

I loved this book because at the time I was all about Earth Quakes and Volcanoes and the eruption of Mount Vesuvius and the destruction of the Roman city of Pompeii.

I had always wanted to know what it was like there as the volcano blew up and the terror reigned.

I loved this book even more because the first time I read it, I was going on vacation and I was delighted to learn that Jack and Annie were also going on vacation in their own time. It was a cool little event in time f...more

We used this in conjunction with our study of Pompeii. Add a few volcano books and a history book or two and you have a nice little unit study.

My generic review for the Magic Tree House books -

We've loved them all so far. They are fun, easy to read and contain quite a bit of historical information. We use them as read-alouds, but most elementary/middle school kids could read them on their own.

It does have a touch of 'girl power' at the expense of making th...more

Read this with my six year old and we had a good time together. Our family visited Pompeii a few years ago and although my kids to not remember most of it, we have several pictures of them and many of the sites that Mary Pope Osborne describes in this enjoyable book. My older two kids have read this book and it is fun to show them that they were right were Jack and Annie had to travel to. The Magic Tree House series is great for boys and girls in pre-school all the way through elementary as o...more

It's only fair to say that I do NOT fit the target audience for this book. I find the entire series repetitive and somewhat dull. However, I'm also father to a girl who LOVES these books, and I can understand why. Each book presents familiar characters who embark on magical tasks. There's magic, danger, excitement, but the good guys always win. And on top of that, you get to learn a bit about whatever topic it is that particular volume is focusing on.

In short: Great for young ...more

The Magic Tree House books have become a bonding point for my son and me. He loves reading them to me or listening to me read them to him. The adventures that Jack and Annie have typically center on a piece of history or science that Sean will be learning about soon. There are always points in the book where we can stop and discuss the facts behind the story.

Back in college I took a "shake and bake" class (earthquakes and volcanoes) for one of my required science electives....more

My 4 yo and I are enjoying these short early chapter books. There is just enough adventure and danger to make a good story he can follow, as well as enough for me to enjoy. The bonus is these are "edutainment," so we both learn a few new facts. The book is full of information about Roman life in Pompei. I was initially worried about the "scary" factor of this book for my 4 yo, but the book is well written-- just enough excitement, but nothing that would give nightmares or w...more

In their first adventure as Master Librarians, Jack and Annie go to the city of Pompeii to bring back an ancient story that is in danger of being lost forever. Little do they know they are saving the myth of Hercules! But before they can find it, the town's volcano erupts in a mighty explosion. Just when things look hopeless, Jack and Annie get some unexpected help from a certain mythic hero - and the rest, as they say, is history.

I think the Magic Tree House series is great for getting students interested in reading and to learn about history and science. The stories show the importance of research, notetaking and reading in a seamless, non-preaching manner. From personal experience, the Magic Tree House series turned a first grade avid reader, but reluctant writer into a writer. My nephew's teacher had him in a boys' writing group in his class. He created his own Magic Tree House story based upon the characters of J...more

That was very exciting! By far the most action-packed book in the series so far. The kids get in a very dangerous situation. It might be a bit scary for the littlest ones, but I'll guess that most kids would find it pretty thrilling.

I liked that Morgan gave them outfits to blend in this time. The touch of mythology at the end was nice. And I enjoyed the list of additional facts in the back.

Pompeii is the place Jack and Annie wind up in this installment. It's the first of a new sequence of four and they have to find and recover an ancient scroll. They arrive in town on the day vesuvius will explode in 79 A. D. Will they have time to complete their mission? and just why is Hercules involved?

This is one of the most exciting and scary Magic Tree House stories thus far in the series. Jack and Annie travel to Pompeii to retrieve a book from a library for Morgan le Fay and experience the explosion of Mt. Vesuvius in the process. We read this story very quickly and look forward to the next...

This is a great series that my son...and students love. A perfect step-up to more difficult books. They teach lessons and familiarize kids with important events and terms throughout history or in science and social studies. Love this popular series!
Missy
Historical and whimsical. We have actually listened to the first 16 books on CD in the car and Quinn LOVES them. This particular story was a favorite. This series is definitely worth checking out at your library for the early grade school ages.

The Magic Treehouse and the Nancy Drew series' are like palette cleansers for me. They are so comfortable, predictable and safe that I enjoy reading them in-between other books. I know at least Bree can appreciate that!
Anna
There was a room with scrolls in it in the library and there was also a room with a table and cushions. It started to get on the volcano exploded and there were gases raining down so they put the pillows over their heads

Michael really liked this book. It helps that he has heard about ancient Rome from his dad teaching Latin and his grandma and aunt just returning from a trip to Rome. It was also fun because what kid doesn't like volcanoes?

I'm obviously too old for these books, [I'm 16] but they're like a guilty pleasure. I'm rating it three stars because they are basic and repetitive. However, they're great books for little kids!

Magic Tree House book #13 - this one takes place in ancient Rome in the city of Pompeii as Mt. Vesuvius is about to explode! Interesting books for young readers and teaches them a few things too.

There's a volcano in it and they are finding a scroll that has a book in it. It has a metal thing over it. A big soldier carried them. I liked it a lot.

I love that my oldest is so interested in these books, they expose him to a lot of history. This one took place in Pompeii, & he found it very exciting.

I read these books all the time when I was little! I love them as much as I did back then, even if the stories aren't at my level.

Another book in the series that I read with my students. Again I do enjoy these books for my students to read. Light easy reading.

This book made me a little freaked out because I would not like to be by a Volcano at all.Especially in the middle of the book.

Jack and Annie travel to Pompeii in the magic tree house. I liked it when Hercules helped them escape from the volcano.
