While this series is fast-paced and introduces some new elements to vampire lore (vampires can go out in sunlight! they don't need to eat, but they can get drunk!), it's not among my favorites. It's difficult to like the bounty-hunter-turned vampire, Anna Strong. She literally attacks her so-called friends when they don't tell her what she wants to know. Why does anyone put up with her?

I imagine Stein's next book will be out sometime next year and I'll certainly give it a try... maybe by then A...more

Anna is still adjusting to the fact that she has been turned into a vampire but that does not mean that the world has slowed down. She has gone back to work with David, chasing down bail jumpers and has taken on the role of a watcher - a vampire who polices other vampires at the behest of Williams - the chief of police. Anna still has to travel to Mexico to feed because she refuses to heed the advice of the shifter Culebra, Fray and Williams to get a human boyfriend to full fill her sustenance n...more

This is the third book in the Anna Strong Chronicles. It was written in a style consistent with the first two. It was a pretty good book and I think if you liked the first two, you would also like this book.

Anna is signed on to be a Watcher. As normal things get out of control. A lot happens in this book. Anna is involved in everything from helping seek down a witch bent on summoning demons into the world, to retrieving her lost boyfriend Max from what are thought to be more typical enemies.

Still readable, but this will never be my favorite series nor will Anna ever be my favorite person. I plan on reading the next book, though. It kind of reminds me of Evanovitch's 'Stephanie Plum' series in some ways. An OK, quick read, but it doesn't really grab me.

Okay, this has become one of my most favourite series, along with The Darkwing Chronicles. I can't say enough great things about them! My god. This book was awesome. This is the third Anna Strong book, and the series just gets better and better.

In this one, Anna still doesn't want to let go of her humanity. She's also keeping the fact that she's a vampire a secret from the humans in her life. But my god, so many bad things happen in this one that keeping close to what little of the human side sh...more
♥ Ashleigh ♥ contrary to popular belief im not actually mad!
now i have to decide again between 2 or 3 stars, i think i might go with 2 because anna was more irritating in this book than the others, im still holding out hope that she'll eventually grow up but my hope is getting smaller and smaller. i have to say anna was better as a human, she wasnt so into herself then she also didnt whine as much.
i also have to say that im irritated over the fact that Anna never got around to dumping Max she was a coward and just waited until he walk away - so what if t...more

I'm finding that I like this series. I know that a lot of people wish Anna would "get with it" a bit faster, but I wonder just how fast I would get with it if this kind of life change happened to me. Some readers feel that she isn't learning anything and is making the same mistakes over and over again. I'm not so sure about that. I just think the time line for the series is a lot shorter than most readers realize.

The characters live in Southern California. There isn't the kind of weather that m...more

Last night I finished up The Watcher by Jeanne C. Stein. It's the third book in the Anna Strong series. I have mixed opinions on this book. Anna seems to be getting more troublesome as the series progresses. She's very impulsive and doesn't like to sit back and let others do their job. She puts herself in so many situations that people tell her to stay out of. If she wasn't a vampire I'd be surprised that she's lasted this long. I don't think I'm going to continue reading this series. I'm just g...more

I was very apathetic about this series especially after the first book because neither the characters nor the story struck me as anything special, especially compared to some other books I've read recently in the same genre. However, since I'd checked out all three books from the library, I figured I might as well read them. This one was definitely the best one of the series so far. The storyline and the characters were engaging, and for the first time I found myself wondering what was going to...more

Ugh, this was like a bad action movie with such a convoluted cast of bad guys, it needed a cast of characters in the back to keep them all straight. And yet, despite that, it was boring. Because you couldn't really care about anything, it jumped around too much.

I really wanted to like this series. But Anna is such a victim. Yeah, you're a vampire and you didn't ask for it. MOVE ON. Buck up and deal. Just stop whining, ugh. This series could really have used a goofy sidekick to lighten things up....more

I found this book at the library - read it not realizing it was a series until I went to log it on goodreads - this was a great book. I read the entire book within a 24 hour period. Strong female lead character and definately geared more toward adult readers than young adults. I'm going read the rest of the series starting at the beginning. Although reading book 3 first it was easy to follow - you really could read this book without reading the books in order - it can stand alone. I can't wait t...more

It has been awhile since I read this Anna Strong Vampire Bounty Hunter series so I can't go into detail. I read the first 5 books while on summer vacation traveling in the car. They were quick easy reads and interesting enough to keep me wanting to keep going. However, I was repeatedly irritated with the main character Anna Strong. I felt she was repeatedly making stupid mistakes due to her pride. She was always out to prove how she could do it on her own, never accepting help, and of course alw...more

I have been reading/listening to this Anna Strong series on audiobook and I am getting more caught up in the series. Anna Strong is a bounty hunter turned vampire. In The Watcher, Anna's mentor (who happens to also be the chief of police) has Anna hunting down rogue vampires and protecting the human population. He is training Anna to balance her new vampire nature with her human nature. Meanwhile, Anna's friends get themselves into various types of trouble. Her on/off again boyfrie...more

The Anna Strong series is a lot like the Mercy Thompson series, fun, light reading with characters that I just hadn’t found myself fully invested in until late in the series. It wasn’t until book six, Chosen, that I finally found myself carrying about Anna and the people around her (a lot like with the Mercy series where I didn’t feel like I cared much until book five, Silver Borne). It seems like the first 5 books were filled with world building and situations that finally got Anna to where the...more

2.5/5.0 stars.

What happened? The flow for this book didn’t work for me. It seemed jarring at times and left me wondering if I’d accidentally skipped a few pages. I understand with the story told in present tense, we experience the action as Anna does, but something was off in this book.

About halfway in, I was confused and not sure which villain was driving the plot…and then 5/6 of the way through another villain was introduced?

Very disappointed, but still like the characters and story and will...more

I actually enjoyed it better than the first two books. I think I come to like Anna the head strong sometime too quick to judge, vampire/bounty hunter ex English teacher. I was pleasantly surprised by the appearance of "Casper" her semi-guardian angel-like being showing himself. Boy was he NOT what I imagined, and was a good surprise. Unfortunately though even with that surprising reveal, nothing of substance about Casper was made clear. I hope we would know more soon.

Not bad. Slow going there for a bit but it did get better. The character development is coming along nicely. I see a progressive maturity and acceptance in Anna from book to book. I just hated how the author crams all the excitement into the last 50 or so pages! Trying to wrap everything into a nice neat little package and leaving me confused and disappointed. I'm still maintaining hope for this series and look forward to reading the fourth book in this series.

Question: Could Anna Strong BE any more of a tramp?

Okay. Let me set the scene. She comes home to find a naked dude in her bed, fast asleep. So, what does dear, sweet Anna do? Shout "Hey you! Whatcha doing in my bed? Get the hell out!" No wait! I've got it. She takes off all of HER clothes, climbs into bed with him, and starts playing with his boy bits! Then she chews on his neck for a bit, until he finally speaks, and she realizes IT'S HER BOYFRIEND! -and that's a bad thing obviously. Because y...more

I agree with most reviewers about Anna Strong. The stories are interesting, but Anna never learns from her previous mistakes. She seems to become more immature and impulsive with each book. She has no problem with attacking her friends when they don't give her information she wants, but over thinks everything when up against a real enemy. I'm hoping that the other books get better.

Anna Strong, bounty hunter and vampire, kicks serious ass. She's a Watcher, which means she helps keep supernatural bad guys in line and does some meting out of punishment when necessary.
She does all of this while maintaining her secret that she's a vampire from her bounty hunter partner and her sweetie, Max, the DEA agent. These two have disappeared and it seems to be in connection with the drug lord whose operation Max had infiltrated. Max was discovered and hunted down. Now David has disappe...more

This one had me struggling!! I was so mad that I decided to put off the next book in the series....for now. I really liked Anna's character until this book. She just seems like one big brat who thinks she knows everything. And frankly, it turned me off! The premise of the story was poor constructed and it just did not keep my attention. So, I have to give it the lower rating and move on to something better!!
Booklover
Liked it better then the 2nd book. I know that people get frustrated with Anna, but I still like the plot. It's more realistic when it comes to her situation, even though its a fiction novel, cause who would get becoming a vamp that fast??
Rachel Janke
I really like this series about Anna Strong, bounty hunting vampire. This book contained non stop action - I read it in 3 days - I wanted to find out what happens to Anna and Max in Mexico. And why someone was shooting at her and David, her partner.
Bill Blocksom
This one tried really hard but was not quite up to the level of the first two books. There are a few elements that seemed to stretch the edges of the world she sets up a bit beyond the limit. Despite this, it was an enjoyable read.
