There's a lot of action in the book but you feel like you are really getting a fuller story than just an arc surrounding one event. This is the kind of book that captivates you for hours. Anderson gives a nice recap of the previous book in the beginning of this book, which was a good reminder for me. Although you could probably still read this book and "get it" without reading the first two books, you really should read the first two books in the series because they are really, really good as well.

Marina is just recovering from her kidnapping ordeal that occurred in the second book of the series. She's also uncovering more about the plot she found out about in the second book. The stakes are even higher now. I don't want to give too much away. Just know that the secrets, twists, and turns make this book so much fun. There are new villains in the book

The characters continue to be really well written. One of the things that I love most about these books is that the characters feel really real. They all have different feelings and things going on. Anderson does a good job of creating a unique voice for each character, which could be very difficult in a story where there are a lot of different characters.

There was only one minor thing that sort of bothered me and that's Marina and Ethan's relationship. One minute, they're promising really big things to each other and the next second, they're fussing with each other. I think they're a serious couple but not serious enough to be making some of the choices that they're making, especially at such a young age. This is mature, motherly adult me speaking, young whippersnappers. On the other hand, teenage me remembers that sort of dumb decisions you make with your first love so I kind of understand it, I suppose. Eventually you wise up and I hope that happens to Marina and Ethan before they do something that they regret in the future. Entanglements make life really hard.

Bottom line: A great continuation of a good story!

Wow! just Wow!!! Book three, The Fate of the Muse, continues the story of Marina and the mermaids!! She is slowly recovering and finding strength again. Marina and Ethan continue to grow stronger together and life slowly becomes normal again. However, we know things don’t always seem to stay “normal” in Marina’s life!! She also has to face the fate of what the mermaid council will decide about the weird events she has caused.

The Fate of the Muse is great!! Like all the other books in this series it jammed packed with more unique twists and new characters, adventure, danger and of course ROMANCE!!

The best thing about this series, at least in my opinion, is the romance between Ethan and Marina!! Their relationship has become more intense and passionate yet they begin to struggle with what we all struggle with in relationships; doubt and worry about the future! I really enjoyed the fact that they are still together! I can’t stress enough that I am happy the author hasn’t created some ridiculous love triangle but has kept these two lovebirds together even amongst their struggles.

There wasn’t as much history on mermaids as in book two and I was hoping we would get a little more information about the new little mermaid that was added to the story. However, we did learn some new things about mermaids and possibly a reason behind why Marina can communicate with the mermaids and live on land. All interesting and unique perspectives added to the story! Again Derrolyn has an amazing way of describing the details that really makes story come alive!

I am really glad that I continued reading this series and I will be anxiously awaiting book four; which was a pleasant surprise to find out it wasn’t a trilogy. The Fate of the Muse ended a bit sad for me and I’m hoping that things all get figured out and that book four leaves a smile on my face!! If you’ve loved this series as much as I have, be sure to grab book four as soon as possible, you won’t be disappointed. If you haven’t read Marina’s Tales yet…what are you waiting for??

Content: A little more sexual than the other 2 books, there was some implied situations but no descriptions.

I don’t think it’s possible for me to NOT enjoy this series. Like I’ve mentioned in my previous reviews, this series is highly addictive. However, the third installment wasn’t as great as the first two. There’s A LOT of things that happen in this one; and things change, for better or worse.

First, Marina and her group of friends graduate high-school. Cruz moves out to SF for design school, Megan is busy with her newfound fame (#1 hit single), and Shayla’s career as a model takes off. Therefore,...more I don’t think it’s possible for me to NOT enjoy this series. Like I’ve mentioned in my previous reviews, this series is highly addictive. However, the third installment wasn’t as great as the first two. There’s A LOT of things that happen in this one; and things change, for better or worse.

First, Marina and her group of friends graduate high-school. Cruz moves out to SF for design school, Megan is busy with her newfound fame (#1 hit single), and Shayla’s career as a model takes off. Therefore, the dynamic bonding that was so eminent, and heartwarming in the first two books, isn’t as apparent in this one. Of course, this kind of thing always happens in real life – people drift apart, things happen, people grow up, leave for college, get jobs, find their significant others, and so forth. So it was bittersweet and understandable, but I still missed everyone’s togetherness, and presence as a tight-knit group.

However, that gap left more room for Marina to further develop her relationship with her mermaid sisters, and Ethan. But, their relationship is far from perfect. Some of their issues (insecurities, jealousy, overprotectiveness, etc.), seemed a bit repetitive. And when they decided to seriously discuss and think about the “next step” in their relationship, I couldn’t help roll my eyes. But then again, Ethan & Marina aren’t your typical, in-lust, 18 year olds. They’ve been through some serious, life-altering stuff. My only fear is that I’m going to see their drama repeat in the next book, only to see their reconciliation in the end. I’m not necessarily complaining, because that formula works! I love it! But, still, I wanted some more angst, I guess, from either Ethan or Marina. I’m excited to see what new obstacles college life brings them.

Additionally, I was hoping for some more back-story with the mermaids, i.e., how they came to be, their laws/traditions, how they procreate (if there are no mermen), why the council allowed Marina 50 moons, what the 50 moons symbolize, etc. But the mermaids only seem to make a few appearances, served as a plot device, rather than actual meaningful, deep characters.

Also, I think the hybrid council meeting was hugely underplayed. Although I was relieved with the outcome, I wish there would’ve been more danger. I did like the little twist though.

All in all, I’m just glad I don’t have to wait for the next book to be released. I’m just not ready for the series to end!!

While the next book, "The Moon and the Tide", did have everything that I had liked from the original book, a captivating and fast-paced storyline, likeable characters, and whatnot, I did find myself growing frustrated at the turn Marina and Ethan's relationship took.

In "Between the Land and the Sea" Marina and Ethan's relationship was simply "SQUEE"-worthy (they were just so cute together, her the little willowy artisty girl, him the popular All-American boy), I found that in "The Moon and the Tide" their relationship started to change, becoming not so cute (with Ethan becoming quite possessive and demanding), and in the large majority of this book, (it pains me to admit this) I found myself actually hoping that they would break up just so I wouldn't have to read of their constant bickering back and forth.

The main reason why I wanted them to break up was because of lack of trust- on both their parts. Marina didn't trust Ethan to not fall in love with his ex all over again, Ethan didn't trust Marina to not go running off into the sea, deciding to become a mermaid rather than stay human, with him. Also, I found it quite frustrating whenever they would bicker about something one of them (typically Ethan) would say something along the lines of, "Well, it will get better when we are married." In constantly saying to one another, "Things will get better in marriage", they really showed their age (17 years old) and their immaturity- in no way are they prepared to take that HUGE leap (I can't help but think to myself, "You don't trust one another when you are just dating, what will it be like when you are MARRIED? No better, I am sure."). Furthermore, I feel that Marina and Ethan are just holding one another back- that they cannot reach their full potential when together.

*NOTE: I didn't dislike Marina and Ethan being together in the ENTIRE novel, there were a few times in the book where something cute would happen between Ethan and Marina (ie. a look exchanged between them and whatnot) that would make me root for them to be together, but these moments were few and far between, in my opinion.

That being said, I did enjoy the other aspects of this book. I loved when Marina was globetrotting with Shayla (specifically when they were at the photo shoot in Hawaii), I loved when Marina was spending her nights surfing (I have never had any inclination to go surfing before, mainly because I can barely swim, but I really want to give it a go after reading Derrolyn's beautiful descriptions of it), and I loved seeing Cruz come into his own!

All in all, while this was not my most favourite book in the series, I still enjoyed it and I would highly recommend this series to anyone looking for a light-hearted and fun read! I cannot wait to see where Derrolyn takes the next book in the series!(less)

This next chapter of Marina's Tales is just as exciting and enthralling as the first two. The author sucks you back into the world of mermaids, young love and evil plots. For some reason, this book dragged on at a much slower pace than the first two. I loved the first two, and couldn't wait for this book... but it seems like Derrolyn is dragging it all out so that she can have 4 books? I dunno. To be fair, I did love the end action scenes and the sweet romantic moments between Marina and Ethan. I'd be interested to see if the next book revolves around them marrying (sort of like Breaking Dawn). While this book wasn't my favorite of the three... I have still grown...more

I have really enjoyed the Marina's Tales series, loving its humor, sweet love story, light-heartedness, and plot twists. As far as main characters go, Marina is not one of my favorites. I like Marina for her loyalty to her friends and family, and to the mermaids. I don't like her stubbornness and tendency to make bad decisions. Yes, you have to have read the previous book to really feel connected to these characters, but throughout the story, we get little reminders of what Marina and her friends have been through in the first two books. 4) The unapologetic outrageousness of the story. Did anyone ever watch One Tree Hill? I used to, but gave up on it when suddenly, they were all famous, doing these awesome things four years after high school. Seriously, one was a best selling author, one had a multi-million dollar clothes line, one was starting her own record label....how realistic is that? Okay, and there is some of this happening in The Fate of the Muse. But in this case....it's UNDERSTANDABLE. You know why it's happening, so you just get to sit back and enjoy it. 5) The creative descriptions. I love it when stories come to life. And Miz Anderson's stories always do for me. It's because of her creative way of describing things. Ever wanted to be a fashion designer? How about a runway model? You have a chance to step into these roles in The Fate of the Muse.

What I Didn't Like: Married? MARRIED? Dude. Whoa.

Overall thoughts: The Fate of the Muse was a great addition to a fun series. The characters are lovable and interesting, and there is never a dull moment in the plot. There's some great action scenes, and some incredible sweet moments between Ethan and Marina. Not to mention a setting that lets us globetrot. Finally, the ending just left me wanting more. If you haven't read Marina's Tales, make sure you add this series to your list!

This was another good installment of the Marina's Tales series. 3.5 stars. I think I'm ready for a good conclusion now though. This book wasn't my favorite of the three, but it was still good. This book felt like stretching things out- same kinds of events, different settings or people involved. I'm looking forward to a climactic conclusion and maybe a happily ever after?

Derrolyn is really writing an amazing series, a lot of series will have a book or two that are not as event-full or are well basically boring, but not the Marina’s Tales! Each book seems to get better and better, I thought The Fate of the Muse was going to be a calmer read since book one and two were so full of suspense and thrill, but no! Derrolyn made sure she kept her readers attention even MORE in book 3, it really makes me wonder what she is going to have happen in book 4?! Who knows! I can only imagine how awesome it will be!

When I try to pin point my favorite part of The Fate of the Muse…I can’t really pick one. I really loved all the suspense in this one, and meeting some new characters. I think when it comes down to it, my favorite part is the romance (I am such a sucker for romance!!). Marina and Ethan are a great match, I feel (even though Marina is a mermaid ha) that they seem normal…and not in a bad way! A lot of books try to make the romance as magical as possible, and sometimes when authors try too hard to make it magical it comes off cheesy and far too
unrealistic. Marina and Ethan’s romance is never like that, they are magical together, but it is always a believable magic..the kind that makes girls believe there is great guys out there (like Ethan) which there is! A lot of books make a ‘perfect’ guy, and honestly there is no such thing as someone that makes no mistakes or is completely flawless..I am just glad to have a series that has a normal guy, who is just genuinely a nice guy! Not some God, the girl worships! They have a great relationship, that I admire and love!

Marina’s Tales is still the only mermaid novels I have read, and it is seriously making me LOVE mermaids, any one that loves mermaids (or just a good book) I would recommend they pick up the Marina’s Tales! It has great friendship, great relationships, awesome suspense, and is just all together so far an amazing series.

This series is like crack. I don't particularly like Marina, I find her more and more annoying as the series progresses, yet I keep wanting to read. The mermaids are such a draw: carefree and wild, without a thought of anything but the present moment.

This book was less about the mermaids than the others, and more about the consequences of Marina's action from book #2. It still manages to be a complete story that was easy to pick up and catch up to, even though I read the second one a few months...more

I loved the continuation of this tale. It picks right up where Book 2 left off without skipping a beat. The Prologue really intrigued me, and I found myself trying to piece together the tale as I kept turning the pages. When we heard there was going to be a book number four we were ecstatic. The story line was exciting and you never knew what was going to happen. A real nail biter. I enjoyed this book it is slightly more complex than the last book but i cant help feel that some part are too much like the last book. But its a good read full of more adventure,glamour, romance and surfing!
