This was one of the best short stories that I have read in a long time. Not only is A.L. Davroe a talented writer and world builder (while this was just a short story it left me hungry for more about Dormorn), but she's a fantastic psychological story teller. The Alchemist stuck with me as a troubling character, yet something about the way he is written to mirror the darker, clinical side of humanity makes him compelling. I gave this short story 4/5 stars because it is beautifully written. I love the language A.L. Davroe used to create a Steampunk world in only 6k words (which is quite the accomplishment). This story makes me want to learn more about the city of Dormorn, as well as the people and automatons that inhabit it.
