In Horsefly and Honeybee these two insects get into a scuffle when they do not want to share a flower, resulting in each losing a wing. When the two are captured by a hungry bullfrog, they must set aside their differences and work together to escape. This is a cute story that teaches about sharing, working together, and friendship, all important social skills for young children to learn. The illustrations are beautifully saturated and full of subtle detail; and the bright, colorful flowers are o...more

When I first saw the cover of this book it look like a clump of dirt with wings was holding hands with a bee. It looked a little strange & kind of off-putting. The story started off a little slow and I wasn't sure where the direction it was going, but it turned around. I thought this was a cute story about how we can come to one another's assistance. There was one funny element in the story where each of the characters used a word to express frustration it was "Drat". I was like was this boo...more

This book is a great way to introduce the importance of friendship, helping others and cooperating with our peers. Horsefly and honeybee did not like each other for not reason. By the end of the book, it is their cooperation that helps them get out of a sticky situation and become friends. Since bullying is one of the biggest problems schools everywhere are dealing with, it is important to find ways to create solidarity in the classrooms, this books does exactly that. Highly recommended...

Ha--I love it! These illustrations are both adorable and hilarious. I smiled and thought "how cute" so many times! That was 3 stars just there. But one more star because I thought the story and the writing were funny and adorable, too! If I could get the telling right, I think a school-age group would enjoy this. A preschool group might not get the humor, but then again they might. If I tell it well enough, I could make it work.

I hope Kami reads this--I'd like to see what she thinks. And I'd lov...more

Very cute story about two insects who have a nasty fight, but learn to help each other when they later find themselves in quite a pickle! The illustrations are adorable, and the story's a good one for talking about friendship and forgiveness and working together as a team.

The mixed media illustrations were darling. Yeah, the tale was not realistic according to animal behaviour, but what story is? This book is great to teach kis about sharing and being kind to one another. Short enough for a read aloud.

This would be a great book for a read aloud! It talks about sharing which is an important concept to establish in younger grades! I would reccomend this book for children in kindergarten to second grade.

Easy picture book. Read this with 7-yr-old daughter Sydney; well, she read most of it. Very cute story of two adversaries who band together when the need arises. Loved the pictures and the sentiment.

A cute book to read about sharing with good illustrations. I think this book would be great for a read aloud with young students. Recommended for first and second graders.
Rachel
Interesting story about enemies learning to work together. Illustrations have a lot of blank space, I guess that's to show the size of the insects but it also left them wide open

This book was redeemed by the cool quote at the end: "We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing one another." - Luciano De Crescenzo

Great book to illustrate the advantages of working together. A good book to use with social curriculums. I will be recommending it to my friends who run special groups that work on social skills.
Polly
Cute story about two bugs who discover two can be better than one (especially if you've only got one wing each).
Mary
Horsefly and Honeybee each want to nap in a particular flower. So they fight, and each loses a wing. Drat! Neither can fly with only one wing, so they start off walking home, in opposite directions. Soon they find themselves caught by bullfrog. Through cooperation, they're able to escape!
Jennifer
A nice little story about cooperation that would be perfect for sharing with young children.

Two insects who don't like to share become allies when their lives are threatened.

What I thought: A great story with lovely illustrations. I'll definitely be doing a bugs story time in the spring with Horsefly & Honeybee as a featured book. I love that the characters don't start out as friends. My favorite illustrations are drat and napping (last page).

Story Time Themes: Friendship, Bugs/Insects, Spring
