Oh, look! There are TWO kick-asses! Whoopsie. Must've been a mistake, right?

Silver Shark is just that awesome.

We're back in the world of the Kinsmen, only this time we aren't dealing with two rival families.

The blurb (YAY, I actually read one this time) does an excellent job of summarizing the position Claire Shannon finds herself in on a new planet---she's hiding her ability, she has a tenuous grasp on a new start, and she has 3 months to successfully find...more

Claire has lived her entire life surrounded by war. She was forced into military service at 14; her psychic gifts, powerful enough to kill. But now, the war is over and those very same abilities have turned her into a target. Such a powerful Kinsman could never be kept alive. So Claire must hide her skills and appear as a normal person in order survive.

She is forced from the bleak, war-torn world and becomes a refugee on a new planet. There, she goes to work for Venturo Escana, a Kinsman whose p...more
I love the writing team that is Ilona Andrews. I am so happy whenever there is a new release of their books. I don't usually read science fiction, but I enjoyed this.

Our heroine Claire Shannon is a psycher, someone with the ability to attack others' minds telepathically. When her side loses a 300+ year battle, she is deported to another planet. She is given three months to find a job, otherwise risk deportation back to her world.

Claire finds work at Venturo Escara's corporation and she senses a...more

4.85/5 (one must be very clear about these things) =D

I'll begin by the worst fault of the book - the absolutely heinous, most maddening, unpardonable of all its flaws - it's too short.

The premise is set beautifully. The first 25% of my ebook takes me from a war torn world, where existence is a punishment to be endured in service of a cause beyond your understanding and with loyalty to an unfeeling corporation trapped in an unending battle began and run by greed, to a planet where every colour is...more

Silver Shark is a short story by Ilona Andrews and is the second story in their Kinsmen series. Now, I am about to tell you guys something that may shock and surprise you. I really like Ilona Andrews’ writing voice and style. This writing couple is responsible for one of my two mostest favorite book series in the whole world. Okay, okay. I know this isn’t really a crazy revelation to those of you who visit here often, but I just thought it was du...more

This was truly an amazing story, made all the more amazing by its shortness. How everything manages to happen in so few pages AND the characters manage to be real and lovable, I don't know. Kudos to the Andrews team for doing it. This is the 2nd book in the Kinsmen series...

A Bit More About The World

And, not surprisingly, the world keeps developing. In the previous book we find out about Kinsmen, here we find out more about the world itself and the Psychers are introduced.

Between 4 & 5 stars for this sci fi romance novella. It's set in the same world as Silent Blade, but you don't have to read one to understand the other. It was a treat getting an update on Meli and Celino, though.

Ilona Andrews referred to this one as a Billionaire and His Secretary romance, except that the secretary can kill you with her mind. This is my kind of romance.

For the sci fi fan, there are biologically enhanced psychic warriors (called psychers), bionet computers that psychers jack...more
Loved it!

I'm awful at giving reviews but here goes:

The Kinsmen world is fascinating and I love learning more about it. Ilona & Gordon write such absorbing worlds and characters. I look forward to any more pieces they give us regarding the Kinsmen.

The story is rich and absorbing with the reader being drawn in and held captive until the very end of the book.

I loved Claire from the very beginning. She came across as a very strong and independant woman. Ven....I mean WOW! If only I could find...more

Silver Shark is book two in the Kinsmen series by Ilona Andrews. (What happened to me that I didn’t know about this series *headdesk*)

At fourteen years old Claire Shannon was recruited by the Brodwyn Corp. to joint their army in their fight for the planet Uley against the Melko Corp. After many years of battling, the war comes to an end with Brodwin as the loser.
Claire is a very powerful psycher, she has the ability to telepat...more
God I wish they would make these into full fledged books! I love this universe. It is well thought out, beautiful, full of political intrigue, prejudice, and abilities. This is a bit longer than a short story and is more novella length, but I wish it had been longer.

Claire and Ven were fantastic characters with real and complex emotions, thoughts, and backstories. The worlds they live in are beautifully described, and always left me wanting more. Thier relationship evolved naturally, was well p...more
I just couldn’t stop reading this novella, excellent writing, excellent plot and an original futuristic world. It’s more about heroine’s survival and falling silently in love, as romantic interaction between H/h picks up after the middle. It was my first read from this pair of authors and I’ll add at least one of their series to my pile.
GENRE/TONE: futuristic/mixed

You know what? I totally loved this book and devoured it in one sitting. I am a fan girl, you know that right? But still,I call it like I see it, and I don’t have an issue saying when I don’t like something. Even from a favorite author. But I really enjoyed Silver Shark. Except for one thing. I’ll get to that in a minute.

Claire Shannon is a powerful psycher, and can obliterate you with her mind. That is an awesomely scary superpower. Trapped on a planet since birth,...more

Silver Shark was just the little bit of fun and entertainment that I needed to start my weekend with. The world building was well done and the book was not overly technical. The bionet concept was quickly and clearly explained. The parts of the story that took place in the bionic were almost like a dream sequence but with definite ground rules. I know some readers dislike dream sequences, but bionet interactions were limited and shouldn't prevent these readers fr...more
3.5 stars A Scifi romance novella from well known Urban Fantasy author Ilona Andrews. I believe this is self published. Silver Shark is set in the same universe as 2009 novella Silent Blade and the original couple do make a brief appearance. However it's not necessary to read Silent Blade first.

Clare was a psychic warrior able to invade biological computers and kill people with her mind. Now living as a refugee on a beautiful new planet she must hide her abilities every second of the day lest sh...more

Silver Shark by Ilona Andrews is a romantic science fiction story set in the same world as Silent Blade. I gobble up everything written by Ilona and Gordon, the power couple behind the pseudonym Ilona Andrews. I'm so glad they decided to revisit this world because I thoroughly enjoyed reading Silent Blade and I even reread it a few weeks ago. I've been wanting to read Silver Shark ever since Ilona first posted snippets on their blog. So when she offered review copies on Tw...more
Its not a secret I have read, enjoyed and recc'ed the Andrews Duo's books countless times. So its not hard to imagine my happy delight when I got a chance to read their newest novella "Silver Shark" ahead of time. This is set in the same universe as their futuristic romance "Silent Blade" published by Samhain a couple years back. The two stories can be read independent of each other, though "Silent Blade" is set in New Delphi and it wouldn't hurt to have read it since it explores a different tra...more

Generally, I prefer fantasy to science fiction, even if it is romantic SF, but I'll try anything written by Ilona Andrews. Ilona and Gordon (the writing duo behind "Ilona Andrews") have an amazing talent for world-building, one of the best I've read, and that talent was on full display in Silver Shark. The world was richly detailed and totally believable, even with all of the added SF aspects.

I loved the main character Claire and found her likeable and easy to relate to. I got emotionally involv...more

Review from my book blog (wordpress / livejournal)

Silver Shark is the second novella set in the Kinsmen universe (the first is Silent Blade, which was published by Samhain, but each book can be read out of order), which is being self-published by the authors. This review is based on an eARC that I requested and received from Ilona Andrews.

The Premise: Captain Claire Shannon is the leader of a team of psychers on the planet Uley. For 300...more
This proved to be a lovely short read. The Ilona duo never ceases to amaze me with the captivating worlds they create with their writing. It always leaves me awed and inspired.

The writing, as always, was enjoyable, and the characters were wonderful to boot. 4 stars.
Fun short story that's a weird mixture of Inception-like mind games, romance and gang warfare. Oh and it takes place in outer space.

The heroine is great, the storyline addictive; definately worth a read.

Silver Shark is set in the same universe as Silent Blade, but tells a much different love story and shows us a much different side of this particular future.

It’s also twice as long, which gives the reader not just more world building, but also more character development.

And it’s still too short.

This is not a peaceful future that we see. Resources are scarce, and interplanetary conflict is a fact of life. Brodwyn has been at war with Melko for all o...more

Silver Shark is the second in the Andrews' Kinsmen series but can be read as standalone. It provides extra background into psychers, which are one branch of the Kinsmen.

In Silver Shark, we get the story of Claire Shannon, a native to the plant Uley. She's been involved in a war between two rival corporations for the past eight years, as a high-ranking psycher. When the war abruptly ends, she finds herself making a new life on the planet Rada.

Venturo Escana, Claire's new boss, is a...more

The husband and wife writing team, Ilona Andrews does it again with "Silver Shark." Book 2 in the Kinsmen series introduces us to Clare Shannon a grade A psycher who can kill at the drop of a hat. It is war time and Clare's job is to kill the enemy and help win the war. When the war abruptly ends psychers are terminated. However, Clare manages to escape, erase her identity and hide from the elite goverment. This does not last very long because the government has decided to ship out the lower cla...more
Hot off the press e-short Silver Shark (Kinsmen Series) by Ilona Andrews is set in the same world as the husband and wife author duo's Silent Blade. The seemingly oddly named Silver Shark is a rare beast, scifi romance but it's not so techy that it won't appeal to romance readers (especially paranormal romance and urban fantasy romance readers like me - after all we are accustomed to leads with psychic powers.)

I really loved Silver Shark, the heroine is a refugee and former psychic warrior who...more
Any of you that have been following my reviews for a while know that I love books from the Author duo that is Ilona Andrews. Let me tell you now that Silver Shark is no exception. And before you say “Oh, but it’s the second in the series, I can’t read it before I read the first.” let me set you at ease. Silver Shark easily stands on its own.Even if you’re not a big sci-fi fan there is still a big chance you will enjoy Silver Shark. I very nearly gave this 4 stars and to be fair it only deserves 4.5 for the truly lousy ending - but it was too good to give 4 to - so ...
OK I loved this - great new world, fab characters - wonderfully written, all absolutely awesome. Highly recommend it. I bought it myself - for my Kindle about 15 seconds after the UK pricing was released (I'm a fan of their stuff and I loved the free snippet on Ilona's blog a few days ago)

However I was REALLY disappointed with the end.

I loved revisiting the Kinsmen universe - although I still wouldn't mind reading more about the daily life of the couple in Silent Blade. I guess we won't get that as there was a visit to see them and their family in this book and they are happily retired.

I think I can justifiably say "as always" the Andrews team have created likeable characters within a world that is illuminated with various details - the biggest introduction here is the bionet - and a plot that is propelled by the characters'...more

ANALYSIS: Silver Shark is a book which I got to read thanks to the authors’ benevolence. I had no idea as to what it entailed or even much about the blurb. All I knew that it had elements of SF as well as romance.

The story opens up in the middle of a war, there's the planet of Uley wherein two corporations have been fighting a war since the last sixty-eight years. Claire Shannon is a mentally trained warrior called psycher. She leads a team of traine...more

The writing duo that is Ilona Andrews could publish their grocery list, and I’d probably buy it. Of course, the reason I feel that way is because everything they write is stellar, and their newest release, the novella Silver Shark, is no exception. I loved this book but there was a few things that slightly disappointed me. I felt that the first 3/4 of the book had a certain flow/style to it, but then the last quarter of the book felt a bit rushed. I thought that (view spoiler)

It felt almost like Ilona started to worry about the story becoming to long...more
