I've always considered myself a Sheri Dew fan. Loved her biography of President Gordan B. Hinckley. Her book, No Doubt About It, is truly one of my favorites. I love her strength. I love her leadership. I love her honesty.
However, I did not love this book. It seems beyond sacrilege to not love a church book, especially one with such a message, although I do admit to loving many parts of it. Her masterful references to scriptures, appropriate analogies to really drive a point home an...more

Another great book by Sheri Dew. This book left me feeling that I can do much better and be much better. She makes living the gospel sound so easy and simple.

When I first started reading this book, I thought it would be another one of those self-help books where I was reminded of how important I was, and that God loves me, etc. I should have known that it would not be one of those cotton candy type books, especially with Sheri Dew as author. When I finished this book I was overwhelmed by the messages that were presented.

"When we have the power of God with us, nothing is impossible", she states. In her compelling style, Sheri Dew outlines 5 ways- Scriptures, the figt of the Holy Ghost, Priesthood ordinances, Temple covenants, and the atonement of Jesus Christ-in which God makes His power available to us.

Everyone!
Wow. Can I give more than 5 stars? Please read this book!
But know that this is NOT a warm, fuzzy, feel-good, 'pick-me-up' of a book. And yes, we've heard some of it before. Here, Sheri sets out simply and succinctly all the ways that we are not meeting our potential (the truth is hard to take, for some) and what we must do to get there.
It is inspiring, though, in a "get up off your duff" kick in the pants sort of way that we need to hear. She says, "In today's world, ther...more

It took me a little while to read this book, but I really enjoyed it. It had all sorts of great advice. This book made me feel a little better about my own personal struggles and trials. I would say that one of my favorite chapters was chapter 4 where she talks about moving forward by backing up. I think we all have times where we feel we are at a stand still and aren't quite sure what to do. This chapter made me realize just how important it is to back up a little and I can learn even mor...more

I was a bit disappointed by this book. I couldn't quite put my finger on is at I read, but many of the others who have reviewed this book summed it up better than I can. In essence, it just seemed simple.
To be sure, the content was spot on, and the principles discussed are great. But the organization was loose, the analyses/stories were not all that compelling, and the entire thing seemed a bit "fluffy".

Sheri Dew has a powerful testimony and is as great an advocate for Jesus Christ as you can get. I am always inspired by her books and though some of it I'd heard before in her Time Out For Women talk, I am glad to have it in print form and my book now has lots of blue tabs marking pages with the parts that hit home to me the most. Her section on the Priesthood rose me to new levels of appreciation for this wonderful gift that we have. Her words always fill and swell my heart to bursting as I ...more

I was disappointed with this book, and frankly, disappointed that I was disappointed. I love anything by Sheri Dew, but her most recent book seems to be a collaboration of things I've heard her say before and/or remarks that just didn't hit me like I needed at the time. I was looking for a spiritual uplift and I found myself trudging through this like one trudges through snow that's up to their knees. I confess I never even finished it (which is something I rarely do) but I needed to move on.

Wonderful (of course -- love everything Sheri Dew writes). Like most of her books, this one compiles a lot of the material she's used in other books and talks, but a lot about this one felt refreshing and new to me. Seems like she's had some experiences in the past few years that have made her (if this is possible) even more real and approachable and understanding of life's challenges, which I really needed at this point in my life. An excellent read -- recommend to anyone.

A very quick read. A mere 200 pages. Not as inspiring as I had hoped, but with some great stories. The call to action is fairly subtle. She seems to think it is very strong, but I expected something more forthright from Sheri Dew. A lot of vague personal stories - I confess to being distracted by the "issues" and "challenges" she can't stop discussing but is deliberately vague about. Still, a great book and very quick read. Easy on the tired brain of a mother.

I had a really hard time finishing this book. There were pages that I completely skipped over because they didn't interest me. There were a couple of good chapters and quotes here and there that I liked, but for some reason I just couldn't get into this book. It may be that it seemed pretty similar to some of her other writings or other LDS writings but it just didn't inspire me - and I know several others that felt the same way about this book.

I liked the book, hence the three stars, but I probably expected a little more from the book than what was there. Some of the chapters were insightful. But others seemed to be "late night with Sheri Dew" and rambled on and on. Others I found myself asking, "Am I supposed to know that about Sheri?" Anyway, I enjoyed reading chapters 5, 6, 8. And I still love Sheri Dew.

I really liked the message in the book. There were a lot of things that she said that I knew, but she brought it in to a different light or made a different point with it. I will probably read this book again, and probably read some of her source books. The only thing I didn't like very well about it was that it read like a very long research paper. Interesting? Yes. Dry? Very. Worth it? Definitely.

I love anything Sheri Dew writes and this book is no exception. She always seems to write down exactly what I am thinking and her strait forward, no-nonsense approch on the gospel of Jesus Christ is refreshing. This book truly empowers you to want to be a better person for yourself and those you associate with. Highly recommend this along with all of her other books.

Wonderful. I now know why so many sisters like Sister Dew. She teaches with metaphor and simile, with grace and simplicity, and shares with an openness that is revealing and profound-- while being very easy to understand. '
This is a great book for late at night when you want a spiritual boost, but don't have the energy to process a Maxwellian discourse. :)

I love Sheri Dew, and she did not disappoint me this time. For some reason it took me a LONG time to finish this book, but I love how she collects quotes from General Authorities and relates her points in anecdotes from her life. She says things so perfectly; though I don't know that anything she said is new, she just stated it better than you might otherwise hear it.

This was an inspiritation. Sheri Dew has so much wisdom! I learned that the Lord is very aware of each of us, and that we have an obligation to be strong so we can help others. The last chapter, in particular, is very powerful. Well worth the time. Be sure to mark up your copy - you'll go back to it often for strength and inspiration.

This book was not a quick read for me, even though it was not long. I was impressed with Sis. Dew's doctrinal insight. I think a lot of personal thought went into this book. I really got a lot out of trying to apply it to my own life. It's a great book if you are willing to put some of your own thought into it also. It's not spoon-feeding.

I love non-fiction, spiritual books. Sheri Dew is one of my favorite authors. She has a straightforward, honest approach.
She presented several different ways for people to recognize and become more spiritually powerful with many of the tools that are right before us --we just haven't recognized how powerful they really are.

quotes from this book
"It is not possible to sin enough to be happy. It isn't possible to buy enough to be happy, or to entertain or indulge or pamper ourselves enough to be happy. It is not possible to hide enough or run far enough away from trials and troubles to be happy. Happiness and joy come only when we are living up to who we are...
I have never met anyone who was happier because he was immoral, or because he was addicted to something, or because he was dishonest and compromised his integrity. "
