This is the second time I've read this book. Ironically, I pulled
it from my shelf looking for "comfort" words, instead of words like "God included the hardships of my life in His original plan. Nothing takes Him by surprise. Nothing is for nothing. His plan is to make me holy, and hardship is indispensable for that as long as I live in this hard old world. All I have to do is accept it." About a week ago, a friend brought by some books that she was giving away for Mike and I to look through. Never one to resist the offer of free books, I took a couple that looked good, and started reading one of them right away -- Be Still My Soul by Elisabeth Ellliot. If I could recommend one book to you right now, this is it. All the lessons I've learned from Elisabeth Elliot are wrapped up in one book. I find myself re-reading the chapter "In Acceptance Lieth Peace". I don't know of a better book to disciple ourselves or someone else.
Absolutely wonderful quick read by one of my most favorite authors. She has so much wisdom; I always learn new, pertinent truths from her.
With this book Elisabeth gave me some clarity and showed me how to give up all the turmoil to the Lord and experience the peace He wants for me.
As always, Elisabeth Elliot delivers a well-written book that will challenge your Christian faith. Although this is a collection of devotional articles that were previously published as stand-alone works, they have been organized into a cohesive book about how to live the Christian life.
I love the way she writes and expresses her intimate relationship with Christ...it challenges me. I love her boldness and the wisdom she has been given.
A great devotional. Elisabeth Elliott is a steadfast, faithful voice in the midst of such banality. Wisdom abounds.
