In my search to provide a wide range of holiday stories, I was drawn to Naomi’s Gift: An Amish Christmas Story by Amy Clipston. All of us get nostalgic this time of year and I hoped a story set in the Amish community would provide us with an old fashioned Christmas. Naomi’s Gift is a novella that did not disappoint.

Although it’s part of a series, Naomi’s Gift works well as a stand-alone novel. It contains a glossary of Amish words and the families involved in the story are delineated in a geneo...more

Naomi’s Gift by Amy Clipston
Short Review by Kara Grant

I was pleasantly surprised by this wonderful story; I only wished it had lasted longer than 178 pages. This book is a Christmas story that accurately illustrates miracles and romance. Naomi has been through two relationships that broke her heart and has resigned herself to not getting married. She focuses her attention on seeking God, helping her parents with her eight siblings, and working as a quilt maker. Caleb is a widower with a young da...more

I won this book from a book blogger hop about 2 years ago from a Wordpress Blogger. I have no idea who the blogger was or the name of the blog. (If you are reading this, book blogger who gave this to me along with another two Christmas book, hit me up) Honestly, I don't think I have ever read a Christmas book since Charles Dickens "A Christmas Carol" in junior high school. And I am not sure I even read that one or just saw the movie.
The first thing that comes to mind about this book is...What a...more

Naomi King finds herself really interested in the little girl who shows up in her mom's quilting booth at the flea market. This little girl seems drawn to the quilts and shares with Naomi that her mother was supposed to teach her how to quilt, but she had died. Naomi can see the young girl is grieving and missing her mother, and the little girl's father also has eyes that mirror that same hurt. However Naomi is treading carefully, after seemingly throwing herself at two young eligible bachelors...more

At last, I got to read an Amy Clipston novel! I’ve heard such great things about Amy’s books and I was delighted to have a chance to review Naomi’s Gift. Since I don’t automatically love all Amish books, I approached Naomi’s Gift with cautious optimism. One thing I don’t like about Amish fiction is when authors use Pennsylvania Dutch and the reader has to stop reading and look up what a word means. This book had that, but I enjoyed the story so much it actually did not impact my enjoyment of the...more

Caleb and Susie return to Bird-in-Hand, Pennsylvania where he grew up to spen...more

It's not the best time for reading a christmas novella, I know, but I just finished this one.
And I have to say, I was enchanted.

The writting is really good, as I expected, since I liked this author's work in a ya novel I read previously, entitled 'Roadside Assistance'. But on top of that, the story although brief, was very well thought-out, with diverse and very realistic characters.
The romance was sweet but deep, both the hero and heroine having to overcome struggles before they could be tog...more

How do you sum up a short and sweet Christmas miracle story? Let me try, Caleb has been a widower for two years. His sweet little ball of energy, his daughter Susie, is immediately in love with the town where Caleb grew up. Susie enjoys playing with all of her cousins and she really wants to learn how to bake and quilt. When she meets Naomi at the farmer's market, she is taken in by Naomi's sweet personality and easy to talk to spirit. The two of them have many things in common. Once Caleb final...more

A fantastic novella containing the characters from the Kauffman Amish Bakery series by Amy Clipston. In this book it focuses on Naomi, one of the minor characters who in the other books tried to court some of the Kauffman boys.

It was lovely to see a story based around Naomi. In this one you go to know her as a person, not some love-sick girl. Her journey to becoming a woman was amazing.

I loved the widowed character and his adorable daughter. The characters had me hoping for them to get everythin...more

As fall is beginning to peak around the corner, some of the best books are just beginning to hit the bookshelves in time to get us in the Christmas spirit, and one of the best I've read belongs to Amy Clipston, who wrote, Naomi's Gift, An Amish Christmas Story. I've yet to read an Amish book, I didn't like and this one was such a true pleasure to read.

I could imagine life at Bird-In-Hand Pennsylvania, the crisp cold chill of snow in the air, settling under thick, gray clouds. Just in time to mak...more

Naomi's Gift by Amy Clipston

I listened to this sweet novella while driving from Arizona to California for winter break.

Short, sweet and spirited, I couldn't help but love this book!

Naomi's Gift is the story of Naomi (go figure) who has been burned badly by love. She had her heart broken when her fiancé broke up with her for another woman, and then again when she chased after another man, almost shamefully so.

Naomi has given up on love. She believes that perhaps God means for her to live her life...more

I received this book free of charge from NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

First off, I have to say that I love Amish stories so I went into this expecting to love it, even though I have not read any of Amy Clipston's books before. I wasn't disappointed! I really, really loved it! I am definitely going to be getting my hands on more of Amy's work!

I loved it! A novella that is part of the Kauffman Amish Bakery series tells the story of Naomi King who, having been involved with 2 previous Kauffman's has no intention of getting involved with another Kauffman or Kauffman relative. Then in walks 8 year old Susie Schmucker and her father Caleb to Naomi's quilt stand at the indoor farmers market. Naomi is immediately taken with the child as she relates that her mother died 2 years ago. And Caleb - well he has no need of another wife since he is...more

I really enjoyed my return visit with the Kauffman family. I've read all of the books in this series, and loved inviting this one into my home! This is a sweet book that I read in one sitting!
Amy shows us that even though we live in different cultures, Amish and English, the word gossip is the same. I loved the great faith shown by the Character's in this book. They seemed to live to follow God and do what they feel he wants for them!

At 144 pages this book can safely be considered a Christmas novella. It was delightful to curl up one rainy afternoon and catch up with the happenings at the Kauffman Amish Bakery. Once again I could practically smell and taste the savory delights described in this heartwarming story.

This story keep my interest but it did not take my heart to want to a point where I was wanting to know to What going to happen next. I will say this it is good read and a Christmas story to itself. I hope it was meant to stand alone. Just my thought because I liked does not meant it will be for you it up to you to decide.

In the beginning of the story, Caleb and his daughter Susie (Susan) are coming to visit Caleb family. Susie want to stop at the market to get a pie or something to take to her...more

This was a great, short Amish story set in the week or two before Christmas. Called a Christmas novella, it was holiday themed and short which is great during the holidays.

I loved everything about it except the author. She wrote a good story, but seems to take herself way too seriously. Before the story begins there is a page entitled "Note to the Reader" where she states that her Amish research was thorough and any error was the result of artistic license. It is a far cry from the usual author...more

I was transfixed by this novella. Read it in one sitting as a matter of fact. My poor dog missed another walk on account of a good book. I have to stop doing that or both our waistlines will suffer!

Clipston weaves a tight plot line with surprising depth and characterization that makes this a rewarding read. Her pacing is impeccable, nothing drags, rather each scene builds seamlessly to the climax. I think it's more difficult to write a really good short novel but Clipston has certainly mastered...more
