Tish Thawer's debut novel, Scent of a White Rose, is a great mix of romance and mystery. You have a love story between Rose, a twenty year old college student and Christian, a 602 year old vampire. Yes we've read this love story a thousand times but this one has twist to it.

The vampires in this book are a little different than the usual vampires I read. I like that each author has their own take on the creatures or I would be bored out of my mind with them. Tish's vamps are light vampires, which...more

This story is totally Rock! There's a lot of action, a really good plot, interesting characters and most of all: the unpredictable ending! What the hell! I love to be surprise by new author: when you start to read a specific gender (as PNR) after a few years, every book seems to be the same. Sometime, you stumble on a story that sounds like something you've already read, but then, something special happens and you realise that this book have a little plus! The general plot was great but still, t...more

Title: Scent of a White Rose (The Rose Trilogy #1)
Author: Tish Thawer
Publisher/Imprint: Amber Leaf Publishing, January 2012
Genre: Fantasy/paranormal
Format: I was given an ARC by the author.

Rose is perceived by everyone to be innocent and pure – a “white rose” but Rose isn’t what she appears. Underneath her pure exterior lies the heart of a young woman who is nobody’s fool. She is repressed by an over protective father, held back by the death of her mother and holding in secrets that no one can...more

This is the first book in the Rose trilogy, and a début by author Tish Thawer. I thought for a début it displayed some pretty bold moves. She has really tried to shake things up a bit and try something different.

The first bold move... well, that could be said to be writing a vampire based YA novel at a time when the shelves are totally saturated with them.

I have to say, though, Thawer managed to give hers some very unique characteristics. They do this "drifting" thing. When strong emotions- lust...more

This has only been my second Vampire series.I thoroughly enjoyed Scent of a White Rose. It was real page turner. Dialog was really good. The plot was truly kept me on the edge , coming back at every opportunity to read as much as I can before my daily duties tore me away. I found most of the characters likable ,and hearing from a variety of characters point of view I found myself torn between sympathizing with even the bad guy in the story. The main character Rose is not your typical sweet naive...more

Review: Scent of a White Rose by Tish Thawer

When my author friends have new books coming out, I love to support them by inviting them to guest post on my blog and to do interviews. When I learned that Tish Thawer’s novel, Scent of a White Rose, was being released, I wanted to do more than just invite her to make my blog a stop on her tour – I desired the pleasure of being able to drift away into her unique paranormal world with an ARC copy of my own to escape into! So, with my boys at school and...more

My review has been posted over at my blog: http://thepararomanceclub.blogspot.co...

Vampires, a hot sweet guy, a not-so-sweet heroine and lots and lots of heavy make-out scenes? Yep, Tish Thawer found my favourite ingredients and she definitely knows how to put them together.

Rose, as a heroine, is pretty bad-ass. She swears, is completely fearless and has a temper problem so not your average princess then. At times I didn't like her and at times, her reactions just didn't seem realistic, but she...more

Sensual, passionate and thrilling, are only some of the words that describes “Scent of a White Rose”. Vampires and demons with an exciting difference added to the enjoyment and uniqueness of this book. Beautifully descriptive romance between the main characters which indulges the reader’s senses, took me deeper into their love and feelings for each other. I also enjoyed that the story is told from different viewpoints, so the reader knows exactly what each character is thinking and feeling – but...more

An enchanting debut worthy of praise!

Rose is a young woman who is trying to cope with the sudden death of her dear mother. Tired of being treated as an innocent young girl and being under her father's constant vigilance, she seeks refuge in the arms of the dark and mysterious vampire Christian. His identity has been kept a secret from Rose while he waits for the day to reveal himself and share the gift of immortality...more

Scent of a White Rose begins and ends with Rose Reynolds.

The novel opens with a brief world-building, refreshingly embracing a show-don’t-tell premise. The young but advanced college student is still dealing with well-expressed grief over the murder of her mother, Loraine. Despite the time elapsed since the tragic loss, her widower father, Jeremy, is trying to balance instituting extensive freedom-restrictions and avoiding emotional oppression. The death having severely aggravating Jeremy’s nat...more

Scent of a White Rose is a simple, easy and fast read. I read the whole thing in a span of an afternoon. Told from the point of view from a variety of characters, we get to see into the mind of almost the whole main group.

Ms. Thawer sets up her vampires a bit differently than everyone else. From their creation story, to who is able to make more vampires. This isn't a book where just any old vampire can bite someone and turn them. I liked that because it gave a bit of conflict for the novel. The...more

***2.5 STARS***

Where to begin ... these are always the hardest reviews to write. The story kept me entertained enough, but I still had some ... complaints? Let's just jump in with both feet.

I would categorize this as NA (New Adult) because the main character, Rose, is 20, going on 21. Her age is actually really important in the story, because her boyfriend Christian, works at a night club and bar, so she can't go in. When you first start, you find out that Rose's mom was killed in a "freak accid...more

My Initial Reaction...
Scent of a White Rose got off to a rough start for me, with quite a few eye-rolling moments, but redeemed itself big time in the second half. I still have some things that seem a bit ridiculous to me, but overall, I really enjoyed this different take on vampires.

The Narration...
Stephanie Bentley did a good job narrating Scent of a White Rose. The voices were distinct and had personality. I wasn't blown away, but it was a s...more

I really enjoyed this book. It had good mystery and suspense build up. There were things happening in the book that you wouldn't be expecting. I just wish that there was more going on between Christian and Rose in the story. I feel like I didn't know why they liked each other besides the physical attraction. I mean I liked Rose because she reminded me of myself with her independence and she had a fiery attitude that I like in female characters. Christian kinda felt like another Edward to me. I f...more

I read this book because of the Author Review on Paranormal Reads, and I must say I was not disappointed. This book had me from the first page.

Before her mothers death she meets Christian who becomes her boyfriend, only Christian has a secret...he's a vampire. Just when you think vampires have been done in every way possible in the literary world ….Tish Thawer comes flying in with a whole new paranormal world with vampires and demons! Vampires are good, they have clans, they have powers, they can turn dark…everything about Scent of a White Rose was such a fresh new concept when it came to vampires, actually it was just a whole new concept in general for the paranormal genre! This is the first book in a brand new series and I couldn’t put it down. The author Tish Thawer weaves an amazing tale of vampires, love, lost, and secrets.

Rose is a 20 year old college student who has lost her mom due to a freak accident. She was killed by a vampire Rose thinks but the truth is a lot more difficult for her to accept. Her dad has gone in total over protected mode due to the loss of his wife and it’s driving Rose crazy. She has to sneak around to see her boyfriend Christian who i...more

So I started Sent of a White Rose after dinner yesterday, and I got so into the story I kinda skipped going to bed when I should have and instead finished the book and really really wanted to start the next book but since I had to be up in 4 hours (aka 4:00 am) I forced myself to wait. I thoroughly enjoyed Sent of a White Rose!

The transitions between characters were great. Not only were they smooth and picked up where other POV ended, it allowed the reader to gather background information and re...more

Here was yet another book that took me by surprise. It's been happening a lot lately and I couldn't be more excited about that fact. It's looking like 2012 will be chalk full of fantastic reads. Usually I read a synopsis and have already made judgements, we all do it and it's almost unavoidable no matter how hard we try to go into each and every read with an open mind. I'm not sure why, but although I thought this book sounded entertaining and it definitely piqued my interest, I'm not sure I was...more

Tish Thawer's Scent of a White Rose makes readers care about the characters from the very first page. A fast-paced read, White Rose will keep you guessing until the very end.

After Rose Reynolds' mother suddenly dies, Rose is sent into a tailspin. Not only is she missing her mother, but her grief-stricken father has become so protective that he keeps Rose as a virtual prisoner. Then there's Rose's best friend who has started dating a mysterious guy whom Rose does not approve of. Finally, Rose sus...more

I was given this book free in exchange for an honest review. Rose Reynolds, a young woman who's mother died mysteriously is in love with Christian. They both have their secrets. Christian is a vampire. Under the rules of the coven, he cannot let Rose know what he is, but unbeknownst to him she already knows. Rose still lives at home with her father while she goes to college. Since her mother's death, her father has kept an extremely tight leash on Rose (she must be home by dark, her father's dri...more

Rose and Christian are madly in love, sounds perfect doesn't it except for the fact that Rose is human and he is a vampire. This book is very different, there is no love triangle, no instant attraction (thank god) as these two have been in love for ages. Rose is not aware that Christian is a vampire and that a new Sire is being chosen soon. Christian loves Rose so much that he wants to petition the new Sire to change her so they can be together forever. There is only one problem with this happil...more

When you start with a sweet, human, and college-aged heroine who meets her "soul mate" (him being a hot and considerate vampire), you have the beginning of Scent of a White Rose by Tish Thawer. This is my first book by this author and have to say it was hard to put this book down (only did because I had to go to work). It is apparent to the reader that when humans and vampires are involved, there are secrets that need to be shared but not always as planned. This book definitely is the foundation f...more

This book. I mean W-O-W with big capital letters in a blinking neon sign.

Sick.

Rose, in this book, I thought Terrance was afraid of her but then wasn't.
(Nice.)
And when Evangeline 'scanned' Rose, remember when she said that Terrance crossed thru Rose's mind. I thought it was a LOVE TRIANGLE HERE PEOPLE! Then again... I'm always wrong.

This book is really twisted in a good way. I can relate to Rose except mine's my mom who's SO over but in reality they just love us too much to be freed.

I love to read. I love this paranormal genre. I love books about vampires...I did not love Scent of a White Rose. The writing was very immature coming off of my newfound love for The Hunger Games. The difference between the two styles of writing between Thawer and Collins is simple really...scene vs. summary. I don't want to waste money on being told what is happening in a plot. I want sensory details, feelings, emotional ties to the characters about what's happening in the scene instead of a na...more
