This is the eleventh book in the Coffeehouse Mystery series, and not only does it follow in the others’ footsteps by offering a fun and entertaining mystery, but it provides more ‘killer’ recipes that every chef and pastry lover in the world wants to own.

Clare Cosi, manager of The Village Blend located in New York City, is busy watching her new idea get off the ground. She and her employees have been working on launching their coffee truck, which will extend their business by letting them drive...more

I laughed. I cried. I got angry. When I first started reading Brew To a Kill, it felt like I was home again. My senses were awake with the sounds and smells of New York, and I've never been there. Cleo Coyle has a way with words that makes you a part of the book. Her characters become family....a family that is loving and yet isn't afraid to fight. I can't wait for the next one to come out.

The "Coffeehouse Mysteries" are among the best of the cozies and this is a worthy addition to the series.

A hit and run. Drug smuggling. Food truck wars. This is what faces Clare in her latest adventure as I quickly turn the pages in this tour de France around the boroughs. Clare is up to her eyeballs in sleuthing as well as keeping the two men in her life civil towards one another.

Set at a fast and fury pace, this engaging and entertaining mystery did not let up from the first sip of java until that last drop. I could not put this book down as the author did a good job in keeping me in suspense wi...more

I really enjoy the Coffeehouse Mystery series, and was delighted to catch up with the lives of Clare and her family and friends. Cleo Coyle has developed these characters into such personable and warm people that readers will find themselves wanting to hunt down the Village Blend coffeehouse to sit and chat and sip coffee with the folks who make up the cast in these stories.

I'm also fascinated with the food truck phenomenon that is all the rage these days and was tickled to find that Clare and h...more

A shocking hit-and-run in front of her Village Blend coffeehouse spurs Clare Cosi into action. A divorced, single mom in her forties, Clare is also a dedicated sleuth, and she's determined to track down this ruthless driver who ran down an innocent friend and customer. In the meantime, her ex-husband Matt, the shop's globetrotting coffee buyer, sources some amazing new beans from Brazil. But he soon discovers that he's importing more than coffee, and Clare may have been the real target of that d...more

Time for a little reading fun! Just finished this book in three days. It's a fast read and, as I said, a lot of fun. I love this series: coffee, food, New York and more. Clare Cosi manages her ex mother's-in-law coffee place in Greenwich Village AND lives above the store. She has now mended her bad relationship with her ex, Matt, who is remarried. However, they both have affection for one another and are united, in part, by their daughter, Joy, and the fact that Matt's mother is one of her close...more

Why five stars? Well, this is rather easy to say. Star one is for the author's ability to stay within the framework of a , what to me, is a cozy novel.

Star number two is for the clarity of prose. That means the descriptive words used to put me inside the 'Coffeehouse' or 'Wedding Reception' and many other locations. I felt I was part of the scene.

Star number three is continuity of storyline. Does this book follow the prior ten in moving forward this series. This was an undoubted yes. The story m...more

A Brew to a Kill is the 11th book in the Coffeehouse Mystery Series. I have read them all and this has to be one of my favorites. Mike helps both Clare and Matt and even though Matt baulks at the idea of Mikes help, he takes it and is grateful for it in the end.

After one of Clare's friends is run over by a van, she takes it upon herself to find out what is going on and who would want to hurt Lilly Beth. Matt finally confesses to Clare about the new Ambrosia coffee which has a hidden treasure in...more

Clare decides to add another dimention to Village Blend. At a cost of $100,000 she has researched and decided to add a food truck.
Competition is fierce in the food business. Lily, a dietition who is converting the high calorie treats to lower calorie treats for the Village Blend has numerous ideas that will combat the competition.
We start the mystery when Lily is run over and the sleuthing begins….

I like Claire Cosi. She's a regular woman who likes poking her nose into business that's not really hers. Her intentions are good and she occasionally has lapses in judgement.

Also, it fascinates me that her kitchen is always fully stocked with esoteric things I'd never consider spending money on. She cooks a lot and she cooks a much wider variety of dishes than I, so that probably explains it. :)

At this point, the mystery or mysteries are secondary to the peek into Claire's life. I know she's go...more

A Brew to a Kill by Cleo Coyle is the 11th book of the Coffeehouse mystery series set in modern-day New York City. Clare Cosi manages The Village Blend, a Greenwich Village coffeehouse founded by her ex-mother-in-law Madame Dreyfus Allegro Dubois. Clare’s ex-husband Matteo Allegro is the globe-trotting coffee buyer for The Village Blend, and the father of their daughter Joy. Clare’s romantic partner is NYPD Detective Mike Quinn.

In A Brew to a Kill, there are several parallel subplots:
• Clare’s...more

I so enjoy her coffeehouse mysteries!!!

The coffeehouse mysteries are one of my favorite series. Other than the fact that I think they are in cahoots with my local coffeehouse – since I drink an absurd amount of coffee while reading them – I look forward to each new release

Remember what I said about this being one of my favorite series, which does not mean that every book is an instant hit. From time to time, the writing team of Cleo Coyle misses the mark with me. For instance, two-thirds of the way into this book, the plotline veers...more

I'm a relatively new reader of Cleo Coyle's coffeeshop series, but it has everything I like about cozy mysteries: family, romance, small business, food and smart investigation. It also has plenty of coffee trivia and New York City ambience and in this case, food trucks, along with a dose of city politics and rivalry! The Village Blend decides to branch out with a coffee and dessert truck, which causes internal strife before Clare and her ex-husband Matteo, as well as external strife when her riv...more

I listened to an audio version of this book. I liked the story and love the characters of this series and the things that go on. The reader was able to assume so many accents and different characters it was very interesting. I liked the interactions between Clare, Mike, and Matteo.
Joy is out of the picture in this mystery and in France. But Ester, and Dante and a few new characters come in with the purchase of a food truck to dispense coffee and muffins. Interesting events and movement all over...more

Claire Cosi is as intriguing as ever in this Coffeehouse Mystery. This time she, her lover Mike, and her ex-husband Matteo team up in an unlikely trio in a risky scheme to trap big-time drug dealers smuggling dope in with coffee beans. Claire also has to deal with the hit-run near fatality of her new partner, Lily--a hit-and-run that is eerily similar to other incidents. This will keep you reading--and smelling the coffee as Claire describes the various flavors in the new bean Matt brought home...more

OK, I've read two of Cleo Coyle's books before and consider them mystery "cozies" on the order of food related mystery writers like Joanna Fluke or Diane Mott Davidson and they've been fun and fast reads. Usually, I get them from the library, as I don't want to west my audible.com credits on "beach reads," but since audible gave me a free credit when they messed up my account the other day, I decided to download this. I would have given it a 3 or maybe even a 3+, but the narrator's voice was int...more

The excitement never wanes in this coffeehouse mystery by Cleo Coyle. Clare Cosi is an astute and well liked manager of a popular coffeehouse. She has a good working relationship with her ex-husband and his mother. When drugs are found smuggled in bags of coffee beans at their warehouse, she enlists the help of her current boyfriend, detective Mike Quinn. Undercover police is not her forte, but when an employee is the victim of a hit and run, Clare pulls out all the stops to trap the perpetrator...more

Clare Cosi is shocked when a hit-and-run driver runs down a pedestrian right outside the Village Blend coffee house. She's been trying to convince her business partner, and ex-husband, that her investment in a coffee truck was a wise one, enabling the Blend to join the new food truck culture. The policeman investigating the hit-and-run explains to Clare that the pedestrian was targeted--and suggests that she herself may have been the target, since she and the victim were wearing similar clothing...more

I love the coffeehouse mystery books. This one was just as good. However, the copy-editing could have been better. There were a few areas toward the last half of the book where very important points were kind of hard to understand because the wrong wording hadn't been noticed by the copy-editor. At one point, my flow of reading was halted because something was written wrong about a character and I had to read the sentence a few times to make sure I was reading it correctly. Correct copy-editing...more

I love cozy mysteries that give you a taste of the location and local community and Cleo Coyle does not disappoint. As her characters move from one scene to the next in the 11th of her Coffeehouse Mysteries, readers are once again treated to the sounds, smells and flavors of Greenwich Village, NY. Author Cleo Coyle has taken us from the aromatic “On What Grounds” to a steaming cup of “A Brew to a Kill” delivering mocha and murder all the way. Although I’m not a fan of books in first person, Coyl...more

This is a very light mystery and the first one I have read in Coyle's Coffeehouse Mystery series. The main character, one Clare Cosi, is expanding her ex-mother-in-law's coffeehouse operations into food trucks. Her feud with a rival food truck and the arrival of her ex-husband from Brazil, complete with unexpected drugs in the coffee beans, sends her into a tizzy, but it just gets worse when her good friend is victim of a hit-and-run, and lies near death. Very fun read, with recipes at the back!

Pretty good. I did have it figured out before the end but that didn't detract much from the read. The main characters (Claire, Matteo, Madame and Quinn) have held up and even gotten richer with each succeeding book in the series. They have foibles and strengths and quirks enough to keep the pages turning. I love the baristas. They've really developed, too. And I enjoyed the new police officer introduced in this one. In fact, I think I'll change my opinion from 'pretty good' to 'very good'.

I really enjoy Cleo Coyle coffee house mysteries. My only complaint is they make me hungry and dying for a great cup of coffee.

The mystery was top notched and liked both the a and b story lines.

I liked the introduction of a new cop on the beat Max Buckman I enjoyed how he was not written in as an adversary and viewed Claire as an ally not an irritant.

Mike Quinn Claire's lover and one of my favorite characters was in great form and very hot in this installment.

I am looking forward to the next...more

Coffee, mystery, food, and New York City. This series is perfect for the holidays and any gourmandizing big-city fan. This book acknowledges the food carts that can be found plying their trade in the streets and avenues that make up the big apple grid. Living in the city food carts add all the more accessibility to good food, whether it be Mediterranean (Taim), Korean (Korilla BBQ), ice cream (Van Leeuwan) or tasty waffles with speculoos (Waffles & Dinges).

Cleo Coyle has done it again! This was a great read! Her characters are always so interesting and fun. And in this book, through Matteo's antics, Clare, Matteo and Clare's love interest Detective Mike Quinn all end up living in the duplex together. As you would expect, sparks fly between the two alpha-males. There are a number of 'accidents' and Clare playing detective and unlike some books, I didn't figure out the killer till very near the end. It was a great read and I highly recommend it.

I think that Cleo Coyle has outdone herself with this wonderful cozy mystery! This is number 11 in the Coffeehouse Mystery series, and I think it is the best! You get lots of coffee trivia...I could almost smell the coffee by losing myself in the descriptions! Not to mention losing myself in the storyline(s).....the worst part was waiting for the novel to be available at the library! Brava, Ms. Coyle....now I will be waiting impatiently for #12 next year!
