Nothing says Christmas like droves of the undead…

All Emery wants for Christmas is someone to share it with. It looks like he might finally be getting his wish in Ross, the sexy customer he’s been crushing on for months. But neither of them counted on the zombies, or on being caught in the worst blizzard in half a century. Even with a plan for contending with the zombie hor...more

Emery works at a diner and is there alone, working on Christmas when the guy he has a crush on, Ross, comes in. Just when Emery thinks he is about to have his Christmas wish come true, all hell breaks lose and the zombies invade. Zombie Wonderland is a good combination of bloody, gory, zombies and a sweet, sexy love story. I loved it:).

I love Christmas Stories, I know, I know this doesn't look like a nice sweet story, with the zombies and all.
To be honest it was quite good.
The author did a great job for only 34 pages (Kindle).
I hope the author would write a sequel, I don't think she would just leave us wondering what happen with the 2 MC.
That would be just plain mean :)

I really enjoyed this story.

Complaints first: it was too short; I want more. I also wanted more character background information, but I get it might have slowed down the fast pace of the story. Maybe a little character bio at the start

What I liked: It was pretty fast paced, once Ross charged through the diner door it never really slowed down.

The visuals were good. Maybe a little too good at parts, had me saying “oh gross” more than once, but I loved it. Zombies are gross so I was expecting to...more

Confession time. I have such a soft spot for holiday tales. Throw in a dash of romance, my heart thump, thump, thumps a happy beat. But tell me a story with romance, blood, and gore all done up in pretty, pretty holiday lights? Well hell…I’m yours forever! :)

”Body parts were scattered across the snow, obscene against the pure white backdrop.”

This may be the most fascinating m/m novella I've read in a while. It's for sure the best Christmas-Eve-finding-romance-during-a-zombie-apocalypse book I've ever read.

The zombie parts were vivid and graphic and horrific and fantastically well done. The descriptions of everything were detailed, but just as it got to the point where I wanted to shut my eyes and say "eew, no more!" the story moved on and action happened or romance happened, and it was all great fun.

Ross was a fascinating character....more

AWWWWW

... amidst the whole zombie attack, this is just one sweet adorable story!!!

I love how it starts a bit slow, as we have a quick set-up of Emery, a waiter, who has been crushing over a sexy customer, Ross for months, and slightly wishes that Ross will come to the diner on Christmas Eve.

But when Ross indeed comes barging in, he has blood on his neck, and he looks frantic ... and that's when the whole action starts. It's just a quick pace after that, with Ross and Emery trying to dodge a bu...more

This book definitely left me wanting more. I wanted more of the background on the characters, especially Sam. It was too short and I really hope there will be more to the story. I loved the fast paced nature of the story. It was go from the time Sam showed up to the end. The descriptions were awesome. Not just of the zombie killings but the environment as well. Wonderful short read.

A lovely zombie story. It was like seeing a gay couple's side of things in the tv show The Walking Dead. If you've seen the show then you know how absolutely gruesome this stuff gets, and Piper described it gruesomely well.

However, I felt like this was just a glimpse, rather than a full story, and I would have liked to see more. There's so much more to this story and these characters than the 29 pages we get. I'd still like to know what Ross was doing, sitting in the diner and writing. Is he an...more

Really loved this! Like a breath of frosty fresh air on a chilly winter morning! Really nicely done.

Its a short novella. If you imagine the zombie plague suddenly hitting, and there would be any number of survival stories out there, this is Emery's and Ross's story of how they found each other and ran off to escape. Ross rescues Emery from the diner where he works, and they rush to make it to a safehouse.

There's no lengthy thesis on zombies; its simply zombie-tastic fun! As it should be. If you...more

Nothing says Merry Christmas like....zombies? If you say so, Ms Vaughn!

This was a very exciting, edge of your seat story that takes at Christmas during a zombie outbreak. It has all the hallmarks of your average zombie movie- flesh eaters, dangerous car rides, a crash, blood, gore, and one thing most other zombie stories don't have- two people who find something that just might grow into love. I left this story cautiously optimistic, and really wanting to know more. I want to know if Emery and R...more

Ahh, zombies!!! They are the best bad guy out there and if one throws in a little loving, you got this amazing read. Ms Vaughn, the books rocks!!!

I read this in one go. I'll shamefully admit that I had to keep the lights on - I'm NOT a big girl when it comes to horror. I wouldn't had read this book if it hadn't been for the book bingo challenge, but I'm SO glad I did. This book was extremely exciting and had me hooked from the beginning. I loved the (view spoiler)[astma attack (hide spoiler)] and Emery's whole reaction during the escape. And (view spoiler)[once they were in the cabin (hide spoiler)]...wow... The writing itself is magnific...more

Despite coming to this book with knowledge of the weird set-up? of the story(being Christmas Eve... during a zombie apocalypse), it still struck me how unusual and unique this whole thing was. Not in an outlandish way, but more of a subtle, "Well, I haven't read you before".

It really was a cute cute story, the only thing I found ARGH was when it actually stopped. As many people commented, I did find it rather short, but also I think it's the fact that in my mind, anything -whether it be tv show,...more

OMG Zombies!!! I loved Emery and Ross both. We don't know much about Ross other then he's a regular at the diner. Emery has a crush on him but too fearful of rejection to say anything. Then zombies happen!!! (run) Turns out Ross likes Emery and comes to his recuse at the diner.
As a fan of horror books and movies I loved the blood and guts parts of the book.
I hope Piper does a sequel cause I'm curious if they zombies stick around or not and how Emery and Ross are doing.

Ok, the title said Zombie, but I knew the story took place around Christmas time, so I was expecting something more... cozy? And nooooo, it's not, I mean, it's the zombie apocalypse out there! Our heroes drive away in the night trying to reach a secure location.

We're really thrown into the middle of the action. Emery is closing shop, thinking about the mysterious guy he has a crush on, when the guy appears to sweep him away. Outside zombies are storming the city and Ross has come to save him.

Well written and I liked both of the MCs and the initial setup for their relationship. I think zombie apocalypse stories just aren't my thing. Also I'm one of those people who needs a more complete ending. I need to know why there are zombies and how/if the zombie invasion ends. I'll definitely look into other stories by this author - just ones that aren't about zombies.

This was a wonderful little story - and it had zombies, so I was more than happy ;) The only real problem for me was that it was wayyyy too short! I wanted to know more about these two, and about the zombie inhabited world they were now living in. Piper always writes great stories, I can't wait to see what else she has in store!

Though I'm not much into horror / zombie stories, this one was pretty good. Emery and Ross were so shy around each other, too bad it took a zombie apocalyse to really get them together. Though I believe Ross was getting ready to make his move when the worst happened. And thank goodness for a paranoid survivalist uncle :)

I'm not going to lie. I started reading this thinking, there is no way the romance is going to be able to trump the zombie attack. Poor Emery, with asthma, lonely, stuck at the diner and unaware of that's happening, just waiting and hoping for a glimpse of Ross, his secret crush. It's Christmas Eve, so the odds of seeing Ross are low, but still. What he gets is a hero saving the day, when Ross comes to find him and save him from, yes, a zombie attack. They undergo some horrific scenes with the z...more

zombie horror books are my favorite, but these zombies can do things that no other can do. They are dead. They have no emotions. They don't snarl or can run so fast they can catch up a car that's speeding or hang on a speeding car that's fishtailing at high speed.
Teresa
3.5 - Interesting combination of zombie horror and romance, though it wasn't clear on why (view spoiler)[Ross came back for Emery and bought him such a personal gift when they didn't really know each other very well before the zombie attack (hide spoiler)]

So, I realize that this is a short story, but to have no idea why there are suddenly zombies everywhere was something my brain just couldn't let go while I was reading the whole thing. The love story between Ross and Emery is very sweet and I would love to read more about them, but I wanted to know where the hell these zombies were coming from!

Not my favorite from Piper Vaughn...if you want to read more from her I suggest you go with her Lucky Moon series. :)

This is not your everyday romance novel, that's for sure. I am so gonna have nightmares, lol. But, it was different and different is sometimes good, and in this case, it was good. Zombies, Christmas and romance....ahhh, tis the season.
Chris
Very good short paranormal m/m holiday romance about a waiter who's rescued from encroaching zombies by the customer he's been crushing on for weeks. I'm not a fan of gruesome stories, but I am fan of Piper's writing, so I braved it.

Wonderful start... I say start because I need more! This promises to be an amazing ride full of twists and turns.... Not you're shuffle, drag, shuffle kind of zombie either wee!!!

This was very good but the ending was too open for my taste. I wanted to know more about this couple and what would happen to them.
Kiki
This book is a lot of fun but way too short. I felt like the book was really picking up, and then it was just done.

I'm not a fan of first person, but I did enjoy this story! Not to mention it just leaves you wanting more at the end.

Christmas Challenge:

Re-read Zombie Wonderland Zombie Wonderland - still 5 stars.

This will probably be one of those read-at-every-Christmas things. Piper Vaughn writes brilliantly and I really should read more books by her. This book is exciting, realistic (as much as Zombies can be realistic), and just fun to read. Wish there was a sequel.

Piper Vaughn wrote her first love story at eleven and never looked back. Since then, she’s known that writing in some form was exactly what she wanted to do. A reader at the core, Piper loves nothing more than getting lost in a great book—fantasy, young adult, romance, she loves them all (and has a two thousand book library to prove it!). She grew up in Chicago, in an ethnically diverse neighborho...more
