Shelves: novel-novella
Välillä on hyvä yleissivistää itseään vähän vanhemman kotimaisen kirjallisuuden saralla. Tässä teoksessa siis yksissä kansissa kaksi Waltarin pienoisromaania, sekä kirjoitusten taustaa (mikä innoitti Waltaria kirjoittamaan juuri nämä kertomukset ja mihin tarkoitukseen) ja pienoisesittely itse kirjailijasta.

Tuo tietoteksti jäi itselleni ehkäpä koko teoksen antoisimmaksi osuudeksi. Tarinoita lukiessa tuli nimittäin niiden lyhykäisyydestä huolimatta taas muistettua miksi Waltari ei kuulunut niihin

"גבר זר בא למשק", מתאר את השינויים המזעזעים ואת פרת האיזון בין שלושת דיירים במשק נידח בפינלנד, עם בואו של של גבר זר לעבוד בתחזוקת המשק.

תהליך שקיעת אהבה אחת לצד צמיחה של אהבה אחרת מתואר במילים רבות, פיוטיות, רגישות שיוצרות את ההנגדה הראויה לתנאי החיים במשק.

וולטרי מתאר ביד עדינה ורגישה את הנימים הקטנים שמרכיבים את הדמויות ויוצר מארג מרתק המביט אל נפש האדם.

הספר היה יכול להיות מושלם אם התוצאה הצפויה לא היתה מהדהדת כבר עם פתיחת הסיפור דבר שדי פגם בהנאה שלי.

Mika Toimi Waltari was a Finnish historical novelist, best known for his magnum opus The Egyptian.
