It was a great story in my opinion on how this family overcomes misfortune that seem impossible to overcome. It shows how the love of a stranger is sometimes kinder than the love of a family member. What i like most of all was the fact that the story took place in 1950s where what the brave young girl did and acted was seen as shameful and now most young girls have done what she has and worst and now the way girl acted in the book seem to be how girls now a days are. As i was reading this book ...more

Each individual person can get different outlooks from this book. But for me, I have learned that gifts come in different shapes and sizes. Also to cherrish each momentof that individual person that comes in your life. You may not know when it will be their last. And you might not know what there purpose is right away but eventually it will come to light. There are 3 L's that I have learned is Live, Love, and Laugh.

I could not put this book down. I finished it in 2 days. Once you st...more

This was a surprise-excellent read for me. The story sounded interesting from the outside of the cover and it instantly drew me in. I plan on cherishing the message I received from this book forever. Some people pass through our lives to deliver a gift. When they have delivered the gift, their work is done and they may leave us after that. But if they leave, we still have the gift they've given us which will remind us of them forever. How special, special, special this book is to me!

I read a lot of Danielle Steel books when I was younger because my mother usually got her latest novel as soon as there was an appropriate gift-giving event, so they were easily available to me. Even though this follows the usual Steel formula of "deliriously happy people suddenly cut down by life before picking up the pieces," this one was particularly well-written and touching (it probably helps that it's short and no time is wasted on anything that's not necessary).

I loved this book. Its like a romantic tale of two lovers that were brought together by chance. This book shows how one person can change your life. It shows how a family could be broken apart by the loss of one person and then repaired with the gift of another!! Great novel!!! One of my favorites by Danielle Steel. This book got me into her novels to begin with. If you have the chance read this book

I'd say that this book was mainly directed towards teens. I thought this book knowledgeable and interesting. I loved how Steele portrayed the idea that there is a reason for everyone who enters your life, and there is also a reason for their leaving. Also that not everyone is meant to be a part of your life forever, but some are only there to bring a "gift," no saying what that gift might be.

I wanna kiss and hug all the people that I love by reading this book. It touches my heart deeply. I like the way Maribeth, Tommy, Liz and John share their love and cherish all kind of affection to support each other's spirit of life even though they've been through hard time. And the good thing is they all know and realize that this life is really must go on, no matter how many people we love has come and go in such a short time. But, the story is not ending the way I want it. Maribeth and Tommy...more

A moving story set in the 1950s, intertwining the lives of two families in the USA. One suffers a devastating loss, while the other has a teenage daughter who makes a bad mistake, leading to her alienation from them.

I didn't think I was going to like this book, which starts with a lot of description and back-story, much of which didn't seem necessary. But as it got going, I found it quite emotional, and found it impossible to put down. It's not a long book, and I read it straigh...more

OK, I will admit it. Danielle Steele is a bit predicatble. By the second chapter I had guessed at the ending; but reading the story and getting there was great. This is a total tear jerker. I would love a follow up story to see what happens with Tommy and Maribeth in the future.
