They REALLY need to stop screwing with Fernanda's art!!!

Wow. What a complete waste of paper.

The last time I checked, a "novel" was more than two-hundred measly pages of huge text and lots of chapter breaks. Calling this tiny thing a "novel" is ridiculous, as is pricing it at $15.99. Luckily, I got it on sale at Target, so it wasn't too expensive, but I totally want my money back after reading it.

There is one reason why I rated this book four stars, and it is this: I did not read Luce and Daniel's story.

So this book is a novella made up of four short stories, each told from the viewpoint of a different character from the Fallen series. The first one is Shelby, second is Roland, third is Arriane and fourth is ~~Let Me Die~~ Luce.

Perhaps because we didn't see Luce and Daniel for long. *sigh of relief*

The stars are for: Roland's story, and Arrianne's story. Oh, and Rosaline, for moving the fuck on with her life instead of killing herself - because they were smarter then 90% of the characters in the FALLEN novels.

Love Where You Least Expect It: The Valentine of Shelby and Miles.
I’ll be honest Shelby and Miles have never really been my favourite characters because I always felt they were quiet bland and were just put into the story to fill the pages. But after reading their story, I do feel more connected to them than before. Did I feel their story was necessary to the series? Not really. With or without it, it doesn’t make much of a difference but I guess it was nice to see them both falling love with each other. What I did enjoy was that they were as loyal to Luce as ever during this story and a girl always needs friends like them around.

Love Lessons: The Valentine of Roland.
Roland’s story actually surprised me. Talk about HEART-BREAKING! Poor Roland. He tries to come to terms with the fact that he's fallen in love with a mortal girl and knowing that they don’t have a future together. So, he does the only thing he can think of that will be for the best; he leaves but he does try to return a few years later only to see the girl happily married to someone else. The sacrifice Roland makes to keep this girl happy is unbelievable and it made me fall in love with him. What I really enjoyed about this story was getting that extra insight on Roland as a character because you don’t see that in the series and mainly how deeply he cares for Arriane whose friendship means more to him than anything.

Burning Love: The Valentine of Arriane.
I’ve always been a fan of Arriane, I really like her and her character is so unpredictable. Well, let me tell you this story definitely is unpredictable. Like all the others it’s Arriane’s love story but you would think it would be with a guy? WRONG! It’s with a girl named Tess and Lauren Kate definitely pulled out all the stops with this story. I think I enjoyed this story the most because it was fantastic to see Arriane in a different light but her story sure was heart-breaking. Falling in love with a girl that follows Lucifer is bad enough but when the girl asks you to changes sides for her is even worse. Good thing Arriane knows she belongs on the good side of the fight but it means her relationship with Tess is doomed and they don’t have future together. It’s a sad story but still good but I’d recommend you have a tissue ready.

Endless Love: The Valentine of Daniel and Lucinda.
This was the story I was looking forward to most of all because it’s more time with Daniel and Luce, but I didn’t enjoy it as much as I would of thought. Luce goes into Lucinda’s body so she can spend one Valentine’s Day with Daniel but she doesn’t really get to spend that much time with him. You read about her speaking with Bill, you read about her getting ready and all the while I was screaming for Daniel to come into the story. However, when he does it’s just like old times and it reminded me why I enjoy this series so much but it was just kind of the same old – the same information we’ve read previously about their relationships, except they do kind of get a happy ending on that one day. Overall it wasn’t really anything new and it’s not really necessary to the actual story but overall enjoyable.

Sneak peek into Rapture; Yes, there’s a sneak peek into Rapture at the end of this book but I didn’t read it. I’m crazy, lol….I’m dying to know what happens next but I didn’t want to start the story and not be able to finish it off because I’d have to wait another 5 months……that’s torture. So I’m going to bare with it and wait until June.

So while sweet miles and bitchy Shelby are off looking for Luce they get lost in a little town where its almost valentines day and they fall in love. woo hoo. not. they have no sparks.. the love Kate forced on them is so unnatural.. i thought miles was all uber obsessed with Luce and now all of the sudden he and Shelby are doing it next to a medevil Calderon while Roland rides up on his white horse all golden dreadlocks and pissy. And whats with every single character being white, skinny, and american. sure we got one black guy and some half mutilated gargoyle devil... still

Love Lessons: The Valentine of Roland:
this story was okay.. apparently Roland loved some rich white girl in old times where black dudes are today's ghetto white trash. anyway they had planned to run away together (how sweet) but while she was miss rich white girl, she was also a HUMAN rich white girl. Roland says to cam he could change with her, but Rosaline (white girl) doesn't know about his demoness, so Roland does the noble (kiss my ass, nobleness) and breaks her poor rich girl heart by leaving her to live a normal demon free life. well Roland comes back from present day to get her back to find she moved on and has a family (hubby and kids) and just as poor white girl is going to loose her other lovely love (white version) to battle; Roland comes and makes it so white lover boy can stay with his family. how nice of Roland. (no offense intened with the whole "white girl" thang :))

Burning Love: The Valentine of Arriane:
Awww this story was amazing. And here is what happened in my biased opinion of these tragic love stories for all of you who just want to read Arrianes story! so it all starts off with Arriane and Tess (yeas Arrianes long lost amazing love is a GIRL which makes it so much more beautiful in my opinion)hanging out in a meadow thing braiding hair and telling stories. Then they begin to fight [:'(] because you see, Tess is a demon, a very powerful demon who is very close to Lucifer. And as we all know sweet, but crazy little Arriane is not. They fight about the fact that Tess has to go back to the devils side and she wants Arriane to come with her. They start to physically fight and when Arriane leaves after saying goodbye, she senses something wrong and she goes to back to find that poor love struck Tess has tried to rip off her wings with (i think) a star shot (not sure). And apparently angel blood is like acid to another (not entirely sure if its for angel/ demon blood or just all angels in general) and Tess in bleeding, Arriane is bleeding from fighting with Tess and when Arriane trys to help Tess she gets burned.. that's how she got her scars. Since shes so weak she has to leave Tess and send someone to help. that's really the end. Its so tragic and sad and beautiful and I LOVED IT!!

Endless Love: The Valentine of Daniel and Lucinda
And finally.. this is practically just Luce and a old version of Daniel making out in a forest. that's all that really happens! WAIT.. she dances with Cam and he says some MYSTERIOUS things. wtf else is new. and this is supposedly the only valentine Daniel and Luce will share.

And you get a sneak peak of RAPTURE. I really hope Kate will give us all the fucking answers finally.(less)

I don't know if it was this book or just the sudden urge to read but I read this book really quickly. Shelby and Miles' story was pretty cute, although I thought the end was a bit mushy. Roland's story was sad and had a bittersweet ending but I enjoyed reading his story. Arriane's story was quite sad and the most surprising, although I don't know why.

Le doy un 2.5: me gusta la pluma de la autora, los personajes...pero, personalmente, odio las historias cortas porque siempre me dejan con ganas de más y, al ser tan breve, no hay tanta profundidad como me gustaría. Sin embargo, si sois fans de la saga -como yo- os gustarán estos relatos. ¡Con ganas de leer el último libro! ;)

There isn't much to say, except I thought it was lovely and I can't wait for Rapture. Especially after reading the excerpt...and I have to say..Oh Cam, I adore you...This HAS to be one of the best quotes ever!!!!

I was really excited about this book because I loved the Fallen Series, but I have to say I didn't really like this book.

There was just nothing there in the book. I don't know how to explain in but it was just pointless, it didn't add anything to the series, at all. Sure you learn a bit more about some of the characters but it was just unnecessary.

There are four short stories that go around each character Valentine’s Day. Readers get a chance to learn more about the secondary characters love lives. The rest of the series mainly look on Luce and Daniel.
The Valentine’s day of Shelby and Miles where the friends grow into something more, trying to help the Lucinda of the past have a romantic Valentine’s Day with Daniel. The second story is Love Lessons. The Valentine of Roland where we get to learn of the only woman Roland has ever loved a mortal girl who Roland loved and lost. This time period he revisits on this Valentine’s Day through an announcer. The third story is Burning Love. The Valentine of Arriane where we learn about Arriane’s love with a demon girl named Tessriel and how being on different sides comes between them. And lastly we have the main couple in Endless Love. The Valentine of Daniel and Lucinda which is the story of the one and only Valentine’s Day that Luce and Daniel ever got to spend together.

Personally my favorite story is Roland’s and Arriane’s. Both of them have sad heart-breaking tales of lost love which shows a different side to them both. It made me feel like I got to know them a little better. I found Arriane’s story especially interesting as it gives us some information on why she refuses to be on Lucifer’s side and why she’s a total martyr for Luce and Daniels love. I’ve never been a big fan of Roland but after reading his story and what he selflessly does for his lost love my heart really went out to him and I like him a lot more now.

Fallen in Love doesn’t add anything hugely new to the main storyline of Lauren Kate’s series but what it does do is give a deeper look into the lives and loves of the secondary characters. It’s a short, quick, romantic, read that gives a little extra something to the fans of the series and also makes a good refresher of Passion ready for the series finale in Rapture. Although I don’t see why it would need to be read as part of the series it makes a good little in between books read that I’d recommend to fans of the series. Lauren Kate’s fallen series books are: Fallen, Torment, Passion, Fallen in love, and Rapture. I would recommend these books for anyone who likes fantasy, adventure, love and mystery.

Fallen in love is part of the Fallen series, but it is not necessary to read it to continue following the story line. This book is more of an aside. It is broken into four sections, each four chapters long, telling the love stories of some of the more prominent characters starting with Shelby and Niles falling in love. Really? Como todos saben o supongo que saben, este libro no es un libro de la saga en sí mismo, más bien es una historia intermedia entre los libros 3 y 4 de la Saga Oscuros de Lauren Kate, en otras palabras...es como un bonus track de la saga que se compone de minis historias de San Valentín.

Para comenzar... diré que la historia entre Shelby y Miles me pareció muy eeee... premio de consolación express, o sea... que no se malentienda, ya que sí me agradó y agrada que se volvieran a conocer y que ESO les diera una oportunidad de volver a comenzar sin los rastres del pasado (llámese Lucy y Daniel) pero no por eso se siente menos rápido... También hay que entender y tener presente que por ahora no es posible que les dediquen un libro completo para conocerse y que con ello nos permitan ver una relación con todas sus letras... pero aun así fue entretenido leer el inicio de una (la de ellos) :p

La historia de Roland es algo triste, pero a mi parecer ni siquiera ESO explica el por qué de su personalidad, ya que desde siempre me ha parecido un personaje muy ambiguo ¿a ustedes no?

La historia de Arriane realmente me impresionó... y NO por el hecho de aclarar su preferencia sexual si no porque me entró la duda de que si en alguna oportunidad nos habían dado señales de ella y que si estas me hubieran pasado desapercibidas jejejjee... aunque estoy bastante segura que jamás se había hecho mención a ello. En pocas palabras el libro ciertamente trata mayoritariamente de la relación/no relación entre Lucy y Daniel, como suele ser en la literatura juvenil (no es critica) pero todos conocemos las reglas básicas de la literatura young fantasy.

Por ultimo, dejo lo infaltable de este libro... la historia de Lucy y Daniel en una de sus vidas anteriores (permitiéndonos revivir la esencia del libro 3) en donde tuvimos oportunidad de leer diversas historias de las reencarnaciones de Lucy pero con la reluciente diferencia que ahora se encuentra un tanto mas extendida, detallada y por sobretodo influenciada por sus amigos.
AAAaaaa... algo que trae y yo no esperaba fue el primer capítulo del siguiente libro (4), aunque admito que no me atreví a leerlo, porque simplemente no soy una persona con paciencia, así que eso de leer primeros capítulos no va conmigo pero para esos fieles seguidores... estoy segurísisisima que estarán encantadas de encontrar tal tesoro xD

E quando si parla di angeli caduti e amori dal destino avverso, questa è sicuramente la prima saga che viene in mente, successo ed emozioni ben visibili a tutti i lettori del genere. E quando si parla di angeli caduti e amori dal destino avverso, questa è sicuramente la prima saga che viene in mente, successo ed emozioni ben visibili a tutti i lettori del genere. Chi ha letto il libro sa bene che racchiude quattro bellissime storie d'amore tutte ambientate in una piccola cittadina medievale alla vigilia della Fiera di San. Valentino. E quale ricorrenza migliore se non quella dell'amore per eccellenza per trattare le vicende di quattro storie così romantiche?
In questo spin-off angeli e Nephilim stanno ancora vagando nel passato nel tentativo di trovare Luce e riportarla a casa. Ricordate, no, il lungo e intrigante viaggio all'interno degli Annunziatori intrapreso da Lucinda per vedere dal vivo il suo passato e trovare il modo di spezzare la maledizione?
Shelby e Miles sono i primi della lista che, catapultati in un luogo completamente diverso dal loro, cercano di calarsi nei panni di normali abitanti medievali per cercare la loro Lucinda, col risultato però di imbattersi in quella del tempo. Parallelamente alla loro ricerca, i due cominceranno ad apprezzare la compagnia reciproca e a lasciarsi trasportare dall'aria di festa adagiata su tutta la cittadina.
Al contrario, Roland vive col ricordo di un amore che non ha mai davvero avuto il tempo per sbocciare come tale. La consapevolezza di non poter tenere Rosaline con se lo ha cambiato, come ha anche aperto gli occhi al giudizio che in molti, fra i lettori, gli avevano dato in seguito alla lettura dei primi libri. Roland nasconde la sua sofferenza nei ricordi di quel viso tanto amato mentre ripercorre ancora il passato per aggiungere un'altro filo all'intreccio della storia di Luce e Daniel e adempiere al suo compito.
Quanto ad Arianne, beh, non mi aspettavo proprio che avesse alle spalle un'amore tanto triste e struggente. Probabilmente la sua è stata la "puntata" più inaspettata, ed è soprattutto per questo che l'ho apprezzata. Un sentimento contrastante già dall'inizio, facilmente intuibile negli occhi di Tess e in quelli, oserei dire, un pò più ingenui di Arianne, un angelo totalmente diverso da quello che abbiamo imparato a conoscere. Inevitabile, poi, la trasformazione di Tess e l'esito del loro ultimo incontro, che ha scavato un buco anche nel mio cuore, perchè ho sempre adorato il temperamento di Arianne e vederla distrutta così mi ha davvero spiazzata.
E poi arriva il bellissimo momento di Daniel e Lucinda, entrambi si cercano e si attraggono come in ogni vita, consapevoli in modi diversi che quel giorno sarà diverso, che potranno finalmente dedicarsi l'uno all'altra incuranti della maledizione che da secoli grava su di loro.
Si cercano e si incontrano, in un finale in cui ogni personaggio si ritrova con gli altri nel momento in cui, ancora, il vero amore si afferma di nuovo come tale.
Il rischio di scrivere un libro che racchiuda più storie d'amore, pur differenti fra loro, è forse quello di renderle banali o ripetitive, ma sicuramente non è il nostro caso. Ogni storia, qui, racchiude pensieri e sentimenti diversi, ugualmente intensi, che catturano il lettore in questa magica spirale di emozioni fortissime.
Fallen in Love si merita sicuramente il mio voto, nell'attesa del suo capitolo conclusivo, Rapture, di cui abbiamo potuto apprezzare Prologo e Primo Capitolo.(less)

I love this series. I really do. I love all the characters, especially Miles and Cam. It took me a little while to pick up Fallen In Love because I wasn’t really sure where it fell in the series. I knew it was supposed to be Valentine’s Day related and focus on some of the smaller (but no less important) characters in the series. It was originally presented as a type of “prequel” to Fallen. Which, in a way it was; however, it was the present Luce (the one from Fallen) going back in time to see her past lives. So, to me, it wasn’t so much a prequel. And the ending of Passion left me considering where Fallen In Love could possibly be set. So, I actually picked up Fallen In Love rather reluctantly.

When I began reading, I was very happy to find that Miles and Shelby were the focus of the first story, and I quickly realized that these events were happening within the timeline of Passion. I enjoyed seeing Miles and Shelby on their own and learning more about Roland and Arianne’s past loves. The latter held a little more interest for me although I didn’t really feel like any of it was pertinent information for the series. Even the bit concerning Daniel and Luce, and the only Valentine’s Day they ever got to spend together, seemed unnecessary.

Don’t get me wrong. It was good. An interesting way to bridge the gap between the releases of Passion and Rapture. But in all honesty, if it hadn’t been part of the Fallen series I probably would have put it down. It was a fun, easy read. Something to fill the time. Unfortunately, my time doesn’t really need filling right now since I have TONS AND TONS of books to read and reviews to write, so I felt like I needed to plow through it quickly. Long story short, if you like the Fallen series, it’s worth a read and will shed light on Roland and Arianne especially. For all I know, the info gleaned from Fallen In Love will play a role in Rapture. We shall see.

The Fallen series has become one of the largest and most well-known when it comes to the “winged ones” of the world, and Lauren Kate has managed to captivate and enchant all of her fans. Having this new novel that offers four separate stories about our beloved favorite characters - just in time to make a very nice Valentine’s Day gift, by the way - is lovely. And the excerpt from Rapture - the fourth and final installment? Mouthwatering.

As everyone knows who reads Ms. Kate, her characters have been through many lifetimes. There are present and past Daniel’s and Lucinda’s wandering the Earth in their own time periods, living out the inevitable moment where Luce will once again die the death of a passionate love that’s simply never going to be possible.

The first story is all about one of my favorite duos - Shelby and Miles. Stepping out of their Announcer, they find themselves in medieval times where all Shelby wants to do is give Daniel and Luce just one day - one Valentine’s Day where they can be together, seeing as that for the rest of their lives it will never happen again. But what comes through is the sweetness and humor between the two characters as early signs of a relationship appear on the horizon.

We then head into Roland’s word - the tough, the steel-spine, the man who is following Daniel in order to make sure the boy does NOT screw up in this lifetime. Roland’s not nearly as worried about Luce, seeing as that she seems to understand far more than the angel she’s in love with. This story, however, turns away from the path of the ‘Romeo & Juliet’ couple, and offers fans a whole new look at the ‘Redemption of Roland.’

Arriane and Tess, a relationship that tugs at the heartstrings, comes next. If not for a simple miscommunication, perhaps things could’ve been different. But a story where one will sacrifice for the other - no matter what the pain or agony is for punishment - is a true gift.

And, of course, Daniel and Luce appear in story four to offer their fans a look at yet another ‘day in the life of.’ But this time, a day that meant beauty and joy on the one day devoted to love.

Bad part of the book? The excerpt. No, before everyone goes getting all beside themselves in anger - I mean the fact that Rapture already sounds magnificent; a fulfilling ending to a stunning ‘out-of-the-box’ series…yet it’s not OUT YET! I know, I know, patience is a virtue. However, I’m more of a Cam, myself. Patience is one virtue I simply can’t get a handle on, no matter how many lives I live.

To be honest, I had little hopes for this book. I was never that into Luce and Daniel and the other characters. I just liked to read the books because of the story itself. Fallen in Love didn’t exactly start after Passion. Miles and Shelby’s did. For Arianne, it happened during the medieval time. And for the others, it transpired during the travel.

The first short story was of Miles and Shelby’s. It started out quite dull, as expected, since they are my least liked characters in the books. After they separated from Daniel in Passion, Miles and Shelby stepped into an Announcer that was supposed to lead them back home, but instead, it led them to another place in the medieval era. I never pegged them as a couple so it surprised me how things between them developed. I thought it was a little too fast, but it also surprised me how I actually ended up liking their story.

The second story is Roland’s. At first, I thought all the stories would be fluffy, but his is bittersweet. But still, among the four short stories, his is my favorite. The third story is Arianne’s. I don’t read romance between two female, but strange enough, I also ended up liking her story. Like Roland’s, her story is sad and more tragic. She fell in love with a demon who wanted her to join Hell so they wouldn’t have to hide their relationship. But Arianne remained loyal to Heaven, and finally chose to follow Daniel.

The last is Luce and Daniel’s. Although each character has their own Valentine story, all of them happened on a single Valentine’s Day. This is the only Valentine’s that Daniel and Luce shared and it happened because Shelby, Miles, Roland and Arianne helped to make it happen. All in all, Fallen in Love, despite my initial impression of it, turned out to be a quite a good read.

Rating: 3.5 stars!

WOW!! I'm a huge fan of the Fallen series and was super excited when i FINALLY got this book. This was exactly what all Fallen fans needed to satisfy their wait till August for Rapture.
The four stories take place in the medieval England on Valentines day. And of course, Lauren's rich descriptions are captivating as always. the readers get to know more about the characters and their decisions that made them who they are.

Although I was really happy to find that Lauren Kate was finally shifting the character focus this go around (especially after the painfully long read of the last book); giving the reader a break from the Lucy and Daniel drama, I still wouldn’t call this a riveting read.

I tried and could not finish the third in the series. With Fallen in Love, I thought maybe I would have better luck.

All of the short stories in Kate’s new novel are very sweet, there is no denying that. Kate takes you to a different time period and shows you the many types of love with each story, building up to the final Valentine story of Daniel and Lucinda. There is not much to say about each story individually as they are exactly what one can imagine. So, were they terrible to read? Not at all. Was I completely giddy reading them and so excited Kate published another novel? Not really. Publishing another novel revolving around other characters in the series is a good idea, but this one is so-so. The only perk is the sneak peak into her fourth installment, Rapture, which I happen to quite like so far.

Why did I bother reading it? Because I want to like this series as a whole. It has elements to it that I adore and I want to recommend the series to those who share the same infatuations as I do (fallen angels-what’s not to love?) I look forward to reading the fourth and final book (out June 2012) just to see how it will all end.

Overall: Debatable. Those who still love everything about the Fallen series will enjoy this compilation of short stories. They are sweet, they delve into the lives of other characters, and you get the sneak peak into Rapture. However, those that feel they may be in the same boat as myself will be left wanting more of the Lauren Kate that first started the Fallen series. So, here’s hoping the fourth book is a strong one…come on Lauren, you can do it!

Characters & Plot: I’m not going to make this a long review since this isn’t a very long book. Well, that and every time I’ve tried to write this review today it was spoiler, after spoiler, after spoiler. So here is what I am going to tell you: If you love the Fallen novels, you must proceed to your nearest bookstore and grab this on January 24th. If you haven’t read the Fallen novels, you don’t necessarily need to since I think you will be able to follow along regardless. BUT, I think they are worth reading so you might want to hold out.

All of the stories included in this book take place sometime during the Passion (I think?) novel, over one particular Valentine’s Day. I love the Medieval England setting of each story and the way Lauren describes everything, makes me want to be there myself. Each of the stories somewhat flow together at first, but I think they are meant to be read separately. I finished this book off in a matter of a couple of hours, so it didn’t take up much of my time, but it left me really, really wanting to read Rapture. So much for holding me over until the final books release!

There is a lot of insight to be gained in this book and some new character revelations make this book even more interesting and attractive for Lauren Kate fans. I got to know more about poor Cam and how he survived after his failed marriage to Lilith. I seriously feel bad for this dude, and I really hope we find out more about him in Rapture.

Roland’s story nearly melted my heart! Boy, was he ever different when he was younger! In this book we get a whole different Roland then what we are used to seeing. He isn’t the cool, calm, collected, and confident Roland. His first love story is ridiculously cute and so sweet! Arriane’s story was also unexpected but very sad. I finally found out how she got the scars on her neck, which had been bugging the heck out of me.

Final Thoughts: I loved this book because it really gave me quite a few of the answers I had been dying to know. This is definitely a “filler” book, but unlike so many others, this one is worth having. One of the best parts? The exclusive look into Rapture at the back of the book! I highly recommend checking this one out! (less)

The four love stories intertwine during a romantic Valentine’s Day in Medieval England to make, essentially, one story.

Fallen In Love is basically book 3.5 of the Fallen series. It happens during the same time-frame as Passion (book 3), starting when Shelby and Miles land in Medieval England having arrived via an Announcer. Each of the stories is told from a different perspective and so we get to know some of the characters a bit better than we did in the novels of the series.

While Fallen In Love gives us more understanding and insight into the Fallen characters, I wouldn’t say it’s a necessary addition to the series, but it is a welcome one. I think it’s more of a bonus book and one I’m very grateful for! In fact, when I met Lauren Kate at the Passion book launch last year I’d asked her if she’d ever considered writing a book of short stories to go along side the series. Lauren had said that it was a good idea. It turned out that she was being cagey, for the very next day the publishers announced that Fallen In Love would be released this February!

At the end of Fallen In Love, fans are also treated to an exclusive first look at Rapture, the final Fallen book, due for release this summer. I was lucky enough to hear the lovely Lauren Kate read from this at the Passion book launch last year.

Fallen In Love is a must for any Lauren Kate fan!
