This was awful. On many levels. For starters, #0.75 of a series? Really? I think we're taking prequels a little too far here.
Mostly though, it was just terribly written. It was chalk full of inconsistencies. One minute the narrator is describing the "glittering eyes" of the ogre leader, and the next it's too dark to see where the next blow is going to come from. Even if you mark it up to a switch in perspective, Barlo could see well enough a few minutes ago to find the ax, but now all of a sudd
