For Faith. For Friendship. For Freedom. In the time of Louis XIII and Cardinal Richelieu, when being a Protestant could mean death, The Huguenot Sword roamed the streets of Paris by night, defending those faithful to the young heretical religion. The nobility scorned them as ruffians, to the oppressed Protestants they were saviors, but to the Cardinal Guards they were a pe ...more

I am interested in church history, especially regarding Protestants, and as soon as I saw this book I wanted to read it. I got the Amazon Kindle version on a 99 cent Cyber Monday sale after a heads-up from the author on Goodreads. It deals mostly with young adult characters and includes a number of well-known historical figures. For those who don't know, Huguenots were Protestants who tried to obtain the right to live as citizens and practice their faith in Catholic France but were severely pers

In an age of daring-do ala Three Musketeers-style including His French Majesty Louis XIII's Musketeers and His Eminence Cardinal Richelieu's guards, Shawn Lamb brings us a tale full of intrigue, adventure, and romance. It was also a time when religious beliefs divided not only the country, but f ...more

The storyline is good, with many - probably accurate - historical facts and exciting tensions, both on the religious/political and the romantic level. I'd like to hear a bit more about the Huguenots true convictions and spirituality. There's a lot of 'casual' bloodshed and inexplicable attacks and counter-attacks. The battle for La Rochelle is gruesome, tragic, but, again, probably true. Unfortunately, the text is simply not edited at all - full of missing or leftover words, incomplete sentences ...more

This has an great story line and the author has done a good deal of excellent research on the subject. My only problem was the amount of characters that kept being added to the story. It was difficult to sort them out sometimes. However, I'm not sure how she could have avoided this, but it did confuse me from time-to-time.

Otherwise it's an excellent read.

Interesting story about the Huguenots of France and their problems with the Catholic Church who wanted to wioe them out as heretics. The romance is very clean.
