Real life neighbors and amazing book partners Mark Kimball Moulton and Karen Hillard Good have teamed up yet again for a magicial autumn delight. As with a couple of Moulton's stories, you think at first "ahhh it's going to be about this" when in fact, you find out it is actually about "that". Such is the case in The Very Best Pumpkin.

I was first introduced to Moulton and Good's work through the Christmas classic A Snowman Named Just Bob. I began the book expecting a story about a snowman and f...more

This book brought back memories of the Circleville Pumpkin show. If you've never heard of it, then you've heard of it now. Now that you've heard of it, make sure to check it out. I can't say enough about the pumpkin show (this recommendation is for people who love anything pumpkin).
I enjoyed this book because I love pumpkins and fall is my favorite time of year. I'm not a fan of the font that was used. It makes for difficult reading. I have a fondness in my heart for pumpkins, so I was bias to t...more

In this book a boy named Peter is tending to a special pumpkin that is growing at his grandparent's pumpkin patch. When Meg, the lilttle girl from next door and her parents, come to the pumpkin patch to find a pumpkin, she has a hard time finding the right one. That is until Peter gives her his special pumpkin.

At the end of this book a directions for growing a pumpkin are available. This would make an excellent science project!

This is a sweet tale about pumpkins during the Halloween season. Though not specifically about the holiday itself, the story about growing pumpkins for the holiday is fun and educational. I love the blossoming friendship that develops in the story as well as the care and love the young boy gives to his pumpkins. The illustrations are colorful and we really enjoyed reading this story together.

What a great story to readaloud to preschoolers in the fall! While we watch Peter tending a pumpkin that is growing outside the patch, a new family moves in next door. When they come to the farm to pick out their pumpkin, it's clear that Peter and Meg are bound to be friends.

Sweet little book about growing pumpkins and a blossoming friendship. Great for fall! Also includes some info on how to grow your own pumpkins at the end. Maybe I'm just partial because fall is my most favorite season. :)

This is a cute book that has to do with seasons, growing pumpkins, and friendship. This would be an ideal book to read during the fall or when you need a book that talks about forming friendships.

Sweet illustrations, a little Gooseberry Patch-y, match a story that is also sweet, if a little uneventful.

"Watercolors, instant coffee, and bleach."
