Finally finished the original, unedited version of The Maltese Falcon that's the main story in here. It's really interesting how much of the movie dialogue is taken directly from the book. You can also see how perfect Humphrey Bogart was for the role of Sam Spade.

In the1920’s and 30’s, America fell in love with detective stories. To meet the demand for crime fiction, several pulp magazines were born, featuring works of short detective fiction by a variety of authors who were unknown at the time, but who became very famous in the years hence. This audiobook of selections from the humongous Black Lizard Big Book of Black Mask Stories is mostly taken up by the original, serialized edition of Dashiell Hammet's classic, The Maltese Falcon, from 1929. The majority of the audiobook consists of the first published version of The Maltese Falcon. It's a bit rougher and somewhat meaner than the version later released as a novel. The final disc includes two short stories, one by Fredric Brown and one by William Cole. Good old-fashioned mystery storytelling, with excellent readers.
