This book is a fantastic romance! The writing was great and the book was believable (mostly). I felt a wide range of emotions while reading from happiness to anger to laughing to sadness.

I loved everyone in the book. I think Cali was my favorite with her sarcastic humor. Her banter with Novalee was hilarious and upbeat just like you would be with a friend/ family. I was given an ARC of this book by NetGalley. Vegas + secrets + lies = I'm in.

The Pros:
This book was heartwarming. Novalee is just so sweet. She's been handed a rough deck of cards in her life, but she's made it out on top.

Dean's progression from miserable drunk to heartthrob was a fun ride to be on. His love for someone he barely knows (even though she's his wife) was confusing yet romantic at the same time.

I'm a little disappointed by this because I kinda liked RISKING IT ALL by the same author. I just felt that this book was a little soft. The story didn't really hold up. For Novalee (which I can't stand that name) to have been someone who had been beaten to within and inch of her life, I don't think she would be someone who would easily let loose and go off with a strange man let alone go on a vacation to a place like Vegas alone.

I admire how Miss Jennifer Schmidt gave the two main protagonists the chemistry that they share. Novalee and Dean just make you melt with their romance. Last Call by Jennifer Schmidt is full of love, lies, heartbreak and humor. The hero’s are hilarious; the villains are ruthless. It’s a sexy adult romance, and it’s so freaking cute too. Two years later, Deans father takes him to court to contest the validity of Dean’s marriage. In order to win, Dean must find his wife and convince her to help him.

Formatting
The story alternates between Novalee’s point of view and Dean’s point of view. The formatting works well for the story. It’s always nice to be able to see both sides of every story.

My Opinion
I don’t know if I would say I loved the book, but I definitely liked the book. I loved the characters. They were funny, smart, and caring. The thing I’m not so sure about is the believability of the story. I can believe two people getting drunk and getting married in Vegas. I can believe at least one of them panicing and fleeing the next morning. What I’m not sure about is two people being able to form the relationship they have after only getting to know each other for one week. Initially, Dean is given 30 days to bring his wife to court. I would’ve liked the story better I think if the events that took place did so over the course of a month rather than a week. Other than that, I highly enjoyed the story and I would definitely recommend reading it. Its fun, flirty and a hot.(less)

Not your run of the mill romance story, with lots of twist and turns the plot keeps you interested and the characters share a chemistry that is amazing. Ms Schmidt succeeds in making a cliché plot into something different, not your typical go to Vegas, get drunk, wake up married story! I found myself rooting for Novalee and Dean to make it after the first chapter or two! A fun, interesting and unique contemporary romance I give it 4 stars!(less)

Schmidt crafted some absolutely amazing characters for this novel. I fell in love with Novalee right from the start. She was strong and independent but had a vulnerable side that she hid away from most people. She had some pretty deep scars as the result of a traumatic past relationship and while she hadn’t completely healed from it she also didn’t allow it to define her. Dean also had his own demons to battle and as a result was extremely empathetic towards Novalee. These two characters were able to connect on so many levels and it was the emotional connection that took this novel from a hot romance to an absolute must read for romance fans. Abby and Cali were the perfect best friends to Dean and Novalee. Their sharp wit and keep it real attitudes injected a lot of fun into the story, especially when things were taking a turn for the serious side. They supported and loved their friends unconditionally but weren’t afraid to get real with them in order to get out of the own way.

I find that too often in romance novels the dialogue is cheesy and awkward but in Last Call it was the perfect mix of snark, wit, and humor. The characters were fantastic and their conversations added another level of depth to this novel. I really appreciate when an author can get inside the heads of so many different characters and really make their personalities jump off the pages. I believe that Schmidt gave the perfect voice to each of her characters to make them come alive and give the reader someone to connect to.

Not only does Schmidt create a completely unique plot line and fantastic characters but her ability to turn up the heat in any room is unmatched! Here is an author who knows her romance, let me tell you! What made the romance ever better is that it was backed with a phenomenal story. It wasn’t just two people who got wasted in Vegas and married each other, there were several layers to the story and as each one was pulled back I was drawn further and further into the lives of Novalee and Dean.

I am completely blown away that this is Jennifer Schmidt’s debut novel. Seriously? With characters that vivid and scenes that hot where has this author been hiding? Last Call is an unbelievable sexy and emotional story that I can’t recommend highly enough to readers of the genre. I will most definitely be on the lookout for more from this author. Is it too early to declare a favorite debut author for 2012? ;)

Jennifer Schmidt writes Last Call with the skills of a seasoned author, capturing her audience’s attention right from the very beginning as if she’s been writing for years.

Flawlessly written, Last Call is definitely one of the few novels out there that will remain at your bedside table and not your shelf.

The idea of a Vegas wedding to a stranger intrigued me enough to want to read this novel right away. Novalee and Dean couldn't be from two more different worlds. Wealthy hotel mogul legacy vs small town hardware store owner's daughter. That in itself had me turning the pages.

I have to admit, I laughed until I cried with this one. Once again another novel that is completely down to earth, even given the fact there is a millionaire involved. I was really happy and felt fulfilled by the time I finished this novel. It was one of those eats at your heart and fall in love novels, for me at least. Jennifer Schmidt is definitely doing something right and I can only look forward to the next novel she produces because I'll certainly be in line to grab it right up.

Last Call is a pleasant little escape from reality. Both characters were strong individuals who survived traumatic experiences in their lives and came out stronger as a result of them. Through this strength they are still flawed making them very believable characters. The plot fluctuates between flirty and fun, like the cover suggests, to serious and back again. This is my first book by Jennifer Schmidt; I was impressed by both her extraordinary characters and incredible writing style. I am not sure how the author was able to put that much chemistry & deception into a single book without a warming label – but I am glad she did. This is a keeper!
