Returning to the entrancing supernatural territory of her popular novels Dream Man and Son of the Morning, New York Times bestselling author Linda Howard has written a sizzling new novel that is her most daring, exciting, and original yet.

In 1985, with much fanfare, a time capsule was buried under the front lawn of a small-town county courthouse, to be reopened in 2085. B...more

I know this book hasn't been rated very high by other people but I loved it. It's sci-fi, contemporary with romantic suspense all rolled into one with some time travel thrown in. At first when I heard the name Nikita for the heroine I thought, "Oh brother!", but actually it did fit. Nikita is sent back in time to find a renegade time traveler. There's more than she thought going on. She meets up with investigator Knox Davis for some help. Great book.

If I want a good romantic -suspense novel to read ,III always turn to a Linda Howard book first. Her books always have the right amount of romance & supense & twists & turns to keep me in the book. Her characters always have great chemistry, humour,& sexual tenison between them. Her storylines always grab you from the start & keep you turning the pages to find out what happens next.Killing Time was a little different than her usual fare, but it did not dissapoint at all! Not a bad little diversional mystery, with time travel thrown in. The actual motive for the whole escapade was a little confusing though-- but it may have been because I was reading kind of quickly.

This is at best a B grade effort by an A+ author who brought us ingenious books like “Mr. Perfect”, “Dying to Please”, and “Blood Borne”. It’s a mesh of a murder mystery, and a tepid romance, with a time traveling FBI agent (the heroine), who isn’t nearly assertive enough to be a Fed, or even a convincing cop.

As sci-fi, the time travel story, it was ok, but the author seemed to forget the self imposed rules of what can come through the time portal, and what cannot.

As a romance, the Hero and Her...more

Ok I'm a huge Linda Howard fan. I've read every single thing she's ever written and most of my all time favs were written by her. It used to be that I would auto buy her and salivate for the next one. This latest one is why I've stopped that. Don't get me wrong, I read it all (in about 3 to 4 hours, that's how "easy" it was,) but (hating to say it) it was just "eh".

You can tell her heart just isn't in it anymore and at this point she should just stop unless and until she gets the magic back. I'm...more

Like all of Linda Howard's romantic suspense, this is fast-paced and smooth reading, but ultimately it failed as both a suspense and a romance. The time travel element was the big problem, in my opinion. I found it to be confusing and underdeveloped.

On the suspense side of things, I'm still not really clear about the motives of the bad guys in this book and it didn't feel like anything was really resolved, especially in the future. I still have a hundred questions about what the bad guys were tr...more

Ok as a mystery story. The characters did not interest me as much as I would have liked.

There was not much in the way of romantic or emotional development. I much prefer Ms. Howard's other books. Story brief: Bad guys from around 2200 time travel back to 2005 to get something of value. Nikita is an FBI agent from 2200 who travels to 2005 to stop them, but doesn't know what they are looking for. She and the police chief Knox work together and fall for each other. Some people are murdered. The aut...more

I really wish I would have read the reviews and had read a better description of this book before I took the time to read it. Normally I can read Linda Howard's books without doing either, as they are all generally pretty good. I can't even rate this book. I can't say it was horrible but I can't say it was good either. The time-travel thing threw me. I can, and do, read various genres but I usually stay away from anything related to this subject. And, as with other books I have read, this was co...more

I listened to this on audio book. I liked the story line and plot, but had a hard time with the primary protagonist. He seemed so perverted and that was supposed to be a sexy thing. Gag. And of course the author decided there needed to be 2 or 3 sex scenes as well, which due to the luxury of audio book I just tracked forward and skipped. Perhaps you like that, but I don't need to listen to that crap. If the sheriff wasn't a perve and she skipped the sex scenes and she was capable of concluding t...more

Loved this book! Even though I usually prefer Linda Howard's earlier works, this one combined just enough romance with suspense and mystery. Def. worth 5 stars IMO.

I just read this novel for spent my free time while wait my favorite novel or what i want was publicated...;D.

Not bad, the story about 2 investigator come from different time, Knox Davis is from currently time and Nikita Stover is from future. They met --Nikita was coming to Knox time)-- and work together to investigate the thief of "time capsule" that was buried in someplace in that town, which planned will reopened on the future but someone stolen it on twenty years later before the plannig ti...more

OMG! I loved this book! I wish there were a way to indicate in print that I am speaking really, really, really, really, really, really, fast. Paper! Paper for all!

But just twenty years later, in the dead of night, the capsule is dug up, its contents stolen. That same night, one of the contributors to the capsule is brutally slain in his home–with...more

I prefer straight-forward romantic suspense. From reading the back of the book, I expected some paranormal elements. Do not read the spoiler section unless you have already finished the book as I mention the ending. (view spoiler)[From the blurb, I did not know the book was about time travel; however, I did figure that out early in the story before it was actually stated. I thought the end was kind of a cop out. Nikita could not go back to her own time, so she did not have to make a decision abo...more

'Killing Time' is a rare Science Fiction/Romance crossover. While there are elements that are cheesy as heck (and so overly drawn-out), the story as a whole is remarkably well done. Nowhere near my favorite in Linda Howard's extensive body of work ('Open Season' is really very good), this ended up being an enjoyable way to ignore a holiday with the sniffles.

Recommended for big fans of the author, romance addicts who dabble in spectulative fiction, and colloquial SciFi fans who aren't turned off...more

Not bad, but could've been better. The guy (Knox) had a lot of potential - he was a cop (mm mm). But he was a bit sappy and not as manly as I would have liked; kept reflecting on his past love and didn't take charge nearly enough. Even the hot and steamy scenes weren't as hot as some of the ones I've read by Ms. Howard. The girl (Nikita) also, ok, but not as strong as some of the other heroines Howard has created (Faith from After the Night).
Also, the sci-fi setting was stretching it a little,...more

Um... not sure what to say about this one. It's not the first futuristic novel I've read, and it didn't start that way, either. The synopsis made the novel sound much more exciting than it was, ie: more suspense, mystery... There wasn't really much of that. You pretty much find the reason for it all without getting that far into it, it dragged in places, and the ending... so not impressed. One of those endings that are over way too fast and too simple. I thought the main characters were good. I...more

Normally, I like Linda Howard. Her books are generally, very entertaining. They can be hilariously funny, her heroines/hero's tend to be stroppy and difficult and aren't overly romantic and the story lines tend to be interesting. I am always pretty confident that I'll enjoy the read... This book was a major exception - I thought the storyline was pretty bad and there wasn't one credible character in the whole book -
On saying that, I finished it. Not sure why though.

I enjoyed this book--listened to the audio version and for the most part it was intriguing. At the end, though, I was left thinking that I'd missed something in the plot...a few things didn't seem clear to me. This could, however, be a result of listening rather than reading; it's the one downside to audiobooks that you can sometimes miss something important and not even realize it's happened.

Overall a very good foray into the extremely-tricky-to-get-right world of time travel, with many nice SF...more

Usually whatever Linda Howard pens down is a must read for me. However, this one was a little disappointing. The mystery of chasing after the villain from the future was too predictable. However, the rest of the book starting from the man/woman relationship and the various gadgets from the future was cute. It could have been better but was still amusing.

I loved his consternation at her reaction over the robot deal. Had its moments.

Weird. The whole time traveling thing threw me off. I was not expecting it at all and it was confusing at first. Then the little tidbits about Nikita's past/future came out of nowhere. For me, it just got more unbelievable each chapter. The killer's motives and the "evil plan" was lame. I was ready for the end. But the main characters are likeable (for me that's key). Still a Linda Howard fan but I would not read this book again.

I LOVED this book. Knox Davis is a detective living in 2005. As a boy he watched a time capsule buried in 1985. Suddenly it has disappeared mysteriously. Enter Nikita Stover, a time traveler from 200 years in the future. What is so important about the contents of the time capsule? Why are citizens of Pekesville, Kentucky being murdered? Who is the other time traveler? What does the coach have to do with all this? You won't be able to put this one down!

Did NOT like this book. I have nothing against time travel, sci-fi, or fantasy. My problem is that this hero is not an alpha male (total beta) and that the heroine actually punches him so hard that he falls flat on his butt! Sorry, but the attraction factor for the hero went out the window after that one. Besides for having a beta male for a hero, I also found the plot to be weak and boring. Sorry.

I loved this book! It was the complete opposite of what I expected. This so most definitely not a typical Linda Howard book, that's what I loved about it. It had a time traveling theme, and I just loved the characters! :) It was a great book! A good distraction and just an all around good read! I completely enjoyed this book. I don't really have anything else to say so.. yep, it was the best book I've read in awhile!

This was a tough book for me to buy into, the whole time travel aspect in a straight romance was odd. I would have given up on it, but I had to see what would happen with it. I did like Nikita's glee with all the "newness" of the things she found. It did seem like Knox bought into Nikita's info a little to quickly. The twist on Nikita and her secret and the twist at the end was interesting.

This was a pretty good read. Nikita, an FBI agent from the future travels back in time to catch a killer who is after the time capsule buried in a small town in Kentucky in 1985. Determined to find out what the killer wants with it, she must go into a hiding of sorts when she is shot at. Knox Davis, Chief County Investigator, is just the man to help keep her safe.

Romance novels are my escapist books. The language is easy to read and one can generally be finished in a few days if not one day. The key is finding ones with sufficient plot other than romance, strong female leads, interesting male leads, and decent sentence structure/writing skills. This one qualified on all counts.

An FBI agent from 200 years in the future comes back to work with a local, small town police officer to get figure out what happened to the town's buried time capsule. Some cool futuristic supposition, but pretty unbelievable. Of course, they couldn't just work together without getting predictably involved with each other.
