The best part of this book is world building - the dreamlike landscape of Greenwood, far removed from actual England of early XIX century, with deep roots in folklore was fascinating and I was spellbound by it through the entire book. There were elements of it that were left unexplained, but that wasn't enough to ruin it for me. The story is intense, it gets going quickly and never lags. You're almost breathless as you read.
There is a goodly amount of rumpy-pumpy throughout, yet it was never too much, and I'm pretty quick to trigger on that subject, having read a lot of books recently that were just too much sex to plot, imo. Reading this novel was like sinking into an epic lemony original fanfic.

This book was a lot of fun, one of the things I most look for in the books I read. The characters meet with a bang and never really learn how to get along without more bangs, take that as you will :3 I love it when there are honest to god sparks. Chars that get along and all are fine and fun in their own way, but it's the stubborn ones that clash and clash until they don't that are always my favorite.

Kay Berrisford has created a strange but fascinating world in this book. I enjoyed the story as well as the heroes, Brien and Scarlet. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was because both of the heroes' intense dislike and distrust in each other seemed to go on for endless chapters, and this got old for me. Their attitudes toward each other were mirror images, which isn't my preference with the main characters. But I still enjoyed the story and I anticipate the author's next book!

Immersive fantasy setting, with a mythology that's clear, but never over-explained (something that few fantasy authors seem to grasp, as far as I'm concerned). Ridiculously hot sex, especially in the beginning before the MCs relationship is consummated. It's rare for me to get swept up in characters' desires for one another and feel the growing attraction right alongside them, but this book totally captured me and convinced me right from the beginning. Perhaps the best erotic novel I've read (& I've read alot!). Highly charged sexual chemistry and a fantastic plot with plenty of twists and turns. Scarlet and Brien are excellent (and extremely sexy) characters, and the mysterious forest backdrop is beautifully decribed and populated.

i loved reading this book! its great to read from a story that i *wish* i'd written, because i loved it in every way! recommend if you like magical forest settings (like robin of sherwood!!) and characters with bite, a lot of sauce, a bit of angst and a lot of magic!
really look forward to more from this author!

Oh, I absolutely LOVED everything about this! The romance that verged on sappy (in the most perfect way), the characters and how they perfectly complimented each other, how the pot and characters developed, and the great ass ending. LOVE IT!

I couldn't even finish it. I couldn't relate to the characters and why is someone have sex with a tree? This was so out there that i couldn't read anymore after that. I was really surprised that this book had such a high review.

I don't care for historicals but this didn't have too much of actual history in it. The supernatural element was the main thrust of the story. I enjoyed the plot and story line. I had a hard time with the actual relationship. It wasn't really "insta-love" but it wasn't a natural progression either. Neither seemed to want the relationship but it still happened. An interesting story with elements of bondage, magic and mystery. The story has great atmosphere. The forest and its characters easily come to life in the imagination.
Quite the debut novel. 3.5 stars but giving it 4 here.

Excellent kinky gay dark historical fantasy romance about a former soldier who returns to the family manor in the Greenwood (the manor which he just sold to cover debts) to retrieve some hidden valuables before the new owner takes possession. When he finds another, very captivating thief already there, he has no idea how the course of his life has just shifted.

I do, however, agree with another comment that the relationship wasn't entirely believable. Perhaps it was more that they didn't pull me in - with this story I should have been cheering for them, but instead I kind of feel I was dragged along for the ride...
