Wow! What a great little Halloween read. Thank you so much Ms Kates & Goodreads for the free copy and the opportunity to read this.

Since I usually like to comment a bit on the characters in my reviews I will do that right up front. The ability to relate to or at least like characters is any book that I read very important to me. I liked Eve and Trey and their chemistry, but my favorite character was Eve’s best friend Gabrielle. She was great. I loved her funny antics and quirky personality.

I love that I have the privilege of reading this book during the fall season and Halloween, makes the spirit of the holiday so much more fun.

After only reading the first few chapters of Hallowed Eve and reading about the author, I’m a fan that will look forward to reading Suza Kates "Whispers of a Witch" and "Conviction of a Witch"!

Hallowed Eve is such an intriguing book, how appropriate the main character is named Eve Taylor.

finished this book today and I must say there were some things I really liked about it and there were elements I didn't. it had a good storyline; I just wish we found out what had happened to Eve sooner in the book. There were some grammar errors that stood out to me..so those detracted a bit when I was in the "zone." Did not see who the killer was coming. I thought of several other people with never suspecting...more

I don't understand why this book received such positive reviews. I found the story to be boring, and times ridiculous. As for the characters, they were just flat. Eve in particular was just way too dramatic. I think she could have used some antidepressants to help keep her stable as she kept bopping back and forth between being sad and upset to being happy and all smiley. 1. The biggest thing that got to me was Eve and Treys entire relationship. This story takes place before Halloween, and Eve arrives in early October. The interactions between the two all exist in a very small time frame, yet what happens to them and how they behave around each other is preposterous for 2 individuals who hardly know each other. The first inkling of this is when she goes out...more I had a lot of problems with this. I'm not even exactly sure how to dive into this, so I'll go with a list.

1. The biggest thing that got to me was Eve and Treys entire relationship. This story takes place before Halloween, and Eve arrives in early October. The interactions between the two all exist in a very small time frame, yet what happens to them and how they behave around each other is preposterous for 2 individuals who hardly know each other. The first inkling of this is when she goes out of her way to visit his office to get personal advice from him on a huge matter, and it's only the SECOND TIME they've ever spoken to each other. Who does that?

And don't get me started on that puppy scene. I actually put the book down and stared intently out the window for 5 minutes because of how much it annoyed me. "I got you a puppy", "I don't want a puppy", "just like you don't want me", "THAT IS NOT TRUE" *Passionate embrace*. I mean...WHAT?

And that leads me to number 2.

This book touts itself as a mystery, but there's a big problem with that. It seems like the author thinks mystery = keeping everything from the reader to the point where the story itself is boring. For the first half of the book you know a smidgen about Eve's past, and exactly 3 SORT OF weird things happen that allude to a serial killer. That's it. And since the author is keeping so much information from you, you're left with chapter after chapter of boring nonsense and reading about people going about their tedious daily life while having unrealistic interactions with a stud next door. If she wanted to write a romance novel, fine, but building your romance over your serial killer feels really weird to me.

Back to the romance, which was in itself weird. They pretty much lust after each other except for occasions when Trey suddenly feels protective. Why? Why does he suddenly care so fervently about her emotional well-being when the only thoughts he's had about her were sexual? And why does Eve obsessively question his motives and get all butthurt about him/who he is when she, again, hardly knows him at all? You can't get upset with someone for being the type of person that they are, especially when you don't even have a relationship with this person. If this were reality, Eve's behavior would be seen as a giant red flag and a little bit obsessive. But I suppose we're supposed to find it endearing?

There's also this thing that happens, which I'm supposing is more the writer than the characters. When they speak to each other, they are usually reading more into what the other is saying, but later in the book these conversations are taken as just that. Eve gets all these ideas out of Trey's words, and then accepts them as reality when interacting with him later, as if these things were actually said. These people are not mind-readers, if these things were not openly discussed it's absurd for them to constantly be assuming things about each other and then always magically being correct.

I'll stop there, except to also add that I counted several really obvious grammar and spelling mistakes just in the first half of the book ("He reached put his arm") so whoever edited this needs a heads up.

To sum it up: Romance parts read like a Harlequin novel, mystery is seriously lacking, characters are flat and annoying. (less)

Eve has had a very traumatizing event occur to her when she was just 8 years old and that event forever haunts her, both in her dreams and in her waking hours. Because of that she’s never felt free to REALLY live, feel and explore. But now she has to go back to the town of the occurrence to attend her grandmother’s funeral and settle other odds and ends pertaining to her passing. Her plan is to go and get out ASAP! Finding out a very shocking detail that her grandmother has left in her hands, solely responsible, she now finds herself stuck in the last place she wants to be. That’s until she meets the delightfully yummy Trey Rainwater who is also her neighbor and a new path has set course for her life.

Trey Rainwater is a mysterious, secret baring and an amazingly hot man that just so happens to be Eve’s neighbor and a friend of her grandmother’s. He’s ex-military, owns his own web design business and can fix cars (love a man of many skills). Always a loner and never allowing him self to get close to another, he finds a promise once made is making his usual way of life quite complicated and very unsure if it’s welcome or not, all because of meeting Nan’s granddaughter Eve.

From the first time the two of them met the sexual tension and attraction lays extremely thick in the air. But both have their own issues and reasons to hold the other at arms length. It was great fun to watch them both grow stronger and face their worst fears as well as their attraction towards one another. Trey is now my new dream hero and he can visit my dreams whenever he'd like! Anyone looking for an original, enjoyable Halloween read (even not to read for Halloween, but just for fun) with a perfect romantic touch will thoroughly enjoy reading Hallowed Eve!

Eve goes and identifies the murder and thinks she is finally free. So she goes all out on Halloween with candy and a costume, she passes out candy to the little kids. After the trick or treating is over, she has Trey go out and get some popcorn. While Trey is gone to get the popcorn, Eve went to go let Max the puppy in. While she is letting him in Eve hears a noise, so she is looking around and see what made the noise. She goes back inside and is knocked down by somebody forcing their way into her home. They try to drug her, but they do not suceed in doing so because Gabrielle walks in to try to rescue Eve. Gabrielle gets knocked out cold, Eve takes off out the back door to get the killer to follow her. The man catches her and he takes off his mask to reveal himself. He told Eve he was the little boy never found The Cowboy, she then found out that it was Sam. Trey came to the rescue and saved Eve. Gabrielle was in the hospital due to her severe head injury, she told Eve to go to Trey before he leaves for good. Eve takes her friendss word for it and went to Trey's house. She told Trey that she loved him and he told her that he loved her.
As I said this book is a good read, it is decently paced and very interesting. I recommend that everybody should read this book.(less)

I could kick myself for not reading this book sooner. I’ve had this book on my Kindle app for ages and having read it I can’t believe I waited so long.
I find it rare to find a really good thriller that’s full of suspense, romance and mystery. Having brought this at a very low price I definitely chose wisely!

I was expecting more of a scary, horror story, and it turned out to be more of a love story with a little suspense and horror thrown in.

All in all - a really good book that was a quick read. I didn't want to put it down when I picked it up. Looking forward to more books by this author.

bought this book the second i knew it was out. reason, Ms. Kates is fantastic! I LOVE THIS BOOK!!! won't give one clue away but it is worth reading, a couple of times. after reading whisper of a witch, i KNEW this one would be amazing. i was NOT disappointed! all i can say is , i want MORE PLEASE Ms. Kates!!!

I received this book through the GoodReads First Reads giveaway. I really enjoyed this book. It was a quick read for me and was a nice compliment to my Halloween weekend. I enjoyed the characters and the plot of the book. There is a twist towards the end of the book that I didn't quite see coming and liked that element of surprise. Overall, I would highly recommend this book for any one looking for a quick, suspenseful read to get you in the Halloween spirit!

This was an enjoyable thriller with complexity in the characters and a creative plot. It was a bit untidy for a person who likes a lot of loose ends wrapped up (me). 1st of all, this was a Goodread's First Read. It was good. I really liked the characters and the story line. A couple of times I got disinterested and put the book down for a couple days, but I always came back to it because I wanted to know how it ended. When it did end, I was grateful that I never put it down for good. Horror-suspence with some love in it makes for a good book. I read this book again, and it's even better the second time! I love all the Halloween background and the characters are great. This is a relatively new author as far as I can tell, and I'm so excited that there will be more books coming in her witch's series.

My only question about this book is when does Gabrielle get her story? I caught that hint!!
