A chilling YA thriller from critically acclaimed author Michael Northrop.

okay so most little girls dream about being secret princesses or having a pony or having a ghost for a best friend or something. my childhood fantasies were always about being snowed in. (i may have entertained one or two princess fantasies, as well) and this is still my dream. living on the third floor of an apartment building pretty much guarantees this dream will never come true, but i still hope for it every single winter. the quiet of it all, the hunkered-down hibernation appeal, the having...more

Anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely love survival stories. It is probably my favorite genre ever. Before this, I have read five YA survival books - three of them made it onto my list of favorite books ever. Alas, this was the first that I really didn't like. In fact, I liked it so little that I couldn't finish it. It wasn't worth it. This was one of the worst books I've read in a while, and I'll certainly never be reading anything by Northrop again.

The worst part was the writing. I'll gi...more

Before I say anything about the book I need to say that firstly I want to thank the author for singing this book. I was a really nice thing to do, as we all love signed books. Secondly I want to thank this book for saving me. Trust me I'd die of boredom if I didn't bring this book with me on my four-hour class.

We'll go back to that but first something about the book. Winter is officially over. I say officially cause a week ago I've seen the sun for the firs...more

I kind of expected something like the Gone books for this one. I know, I know: it's not sci-fi, it's realistic fiction and there's no evil alien life force or autistic five year old controlling the whole thing.

Whatever. I wanted them to start eating each other.

I'm joking. Mostly. (Cannibalism does add to the intensity of the story).

The premise behind Trapped (kids getting snowed into their school for a while) is really only good in theory. There's not much to go with, other than your basic surv...more

I'm glad that I wasn't annoyed by the ending, as many other readers have been. It was definitely abrupt, but it made sense to me. This is a quick read, with great descriptions, and a strong voice. I expected it to get even more horrific than it did, and was pleasantly surprised when it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I think I partly assumed it would get horrific because the front door of the building, on the cover, looks like a maw to me. The voice seemed kind of "classic YA", but staying...more

The events I didn’t like about this book was Pete got buried alive of 8 feet of snow. Another event that was very scary was the whole school was trapped in school for a couple days. The last Scary event was Elijah house was under 10 degrees on the freezing point. The main characters in this book are Scotty Weems, Pete, Les, Krista, Julie, and Elijah. Pete had fight with Les and Pete is sick. Julie got mad at Pete and Julie is Sick. Les’s Parents don’t care about Pete at all. The Genre of the boo...more

What the author did right: it's an interesting set-up, with a random group of students and a teacher trapped in a high school during an unprecedented northeaster which has dumped a tremendous amount of snow in a short time. Northrup avoids a Breakfast Club formula where everyone overcomes their different cliques and bonds, instead amping up the tension among the students.

What the author did wrong: the guys get to be real people, the girls exist only as plot devices and sex objects. The narrator,...more

This book is really interesting for me because this book is talking about a group of students that are trapped at a school. They have to survive till somebody come and get them out or wait in till the snow goes away. There are 7 students at the school. They are called, Scotty, Pete, Jason, Les, Krista, Julie, and Elijah. The saddest part in the story is when; Pete was trying to get some help for the outside on the snow kart (flammenwarfer). But then the kart flipped over and then Pete was burie...more

The things I liked in the book Trapped are, there were 7 of the kids stuck inside of a high school because of a blizzard that happened. I also liked how the ceiling collapsed, and them breaking in to the kitchen. How they made a bucket of fire and kept it in the other room. The flirting they had going on between the boys and girls. And how everyone got to know each other. What I didn't like about the book was the ending. I wanted it to continue on to where they were saved and what happened after...more

This book Trapped I would give four stars because I think it was a good book. Some examples are first I liked how the book was really descriptive I could picture a lot of that stuff the author was saying. There was points is the book when I didn’t want to put it down because I really wanted to see what was going to happen next. The third reason why is because I liked how the characters where separated then they kind of came back together as a group. The characters in...more

Wow. The first thought that comes to mind after reading Trapped is, "It moves!" There is never a dull moment, and it reads very quickly.

Trapped is a classic survival story, involving seven teens trapped in their high school during a snow storm. Oh, but this isn't just any snow storm. It snows for about six days straight -- heavy snow -- and buries the school and everything in the town in about 18 feet of snow.

The situation that allows them to all end up in school alone is a bit of a stretch, but...more

The snow began to fall on Tattawa Regional High school but in this New England region this wasn't uncommon in the winter time, but what the people in this small town didn't know was that it wouldn't stop for seven days.”No one had seen anything like it. It was a natural in a way that earthquakes and tidal waves are natural disasters. It wasn't a storm; it was whatever comes after that.” (02) Scotty the main character and his friends are among the...more

I was so excited to read this book, mainly because it was snowing outside but also because I love this sort of thing.

I did really enjoy it but it does have its downside in my opinion. So we have seven teenagers stuck inside their school whilst snow is piling up around them. A terrifying thought. I would just hope as a teenager I would of made some better choices than those in Trapped.
Okay I really enjoyed the book. I love survival stories especially when it seems like there is no hope. You can't...more

I really enjoyed this book even though it was Young Adult Fiction. I love the Gary Paulson books and books about survival situations. This book is something you can read in one day. The characters are interesting and like-able and distinct. The teenagers are realistic. The main boy reminded me of my nephew and what he would do in the same situation. I know kids like the kids in this book. The writing is simple, clear, well-written, authentic, and keeps you reading. I would recommend this to matu...more

What it's about:
Everything seems like a normal winterly school day when suddenly the blizzard starts.
Pupils are sent home early but Scotty Weems and two of his friends, Pete and Jason, stay in their high school longer to work on a shop project, relying on Jason's dad to pick them up later on.
They end up being three of the last seven teens in the school, plus one teacher who's supposed to take care of all the late-stayers.
The storm outs...more

Okay what I liked about the book:

The setting. (I could connect to the area because it referenced places I knew growing up in Upstate NY)

The whole idea of the book: snowed in at school, trying to survive= awesome

What I didn't like:

The book was kind of vulgar to be a middle school read. We are talking about masterbation and erections within the first two chapters. I'm no prude, but it didn't seem like it was necessary for the plot, just put in to shock. My students probably wouldn't have been able...more

By the time i went to goodreads i finished the book before i put it in my currently reading shelf but whatever. I liked it,7 kids get trapped in their high school, they get food from the cafeteria and build a small fire and stuff. It must be kinda gross not taking a shower for a week but that's the least of their problems. It kinda made me remember when i got trapped in my school, it wasnt nearly as bad as in the book. we only spent one night, it was rain, there were a lot of students and teache...more

Trapped by Michael Northrop was a good book. I liked it because it kept me reading. It was hard to predict what was going to happen next. It was very easy to understand what was going on throughout the book. The book was fiction, but it could very well happen. The novel was filled with mystery, action, suspense, and more.

Scotty Weems (the narrator), along with his 2 best friends Jason and Pete, are among the 7 kids who are the last to be picked up at Tattawa High School in rural New England. A...more

If you and six other classmates are abandoned in your dark dreary high school with no way out what would be your main concern? The crumbling ceiling? Or maybe the frozen over pipes? The 16 feet snow pouring down? Or if anyone can see your reddening pimple on your chin? In the novel Trapped written by Michael Northrop seven very unusual and unique high students were forced together in one environment they all wish they were never in in the first place… school.
As the time ticked and ticked away a...more

Trapped Book Review
Like many young readers, I have difficulty selecting books without a recommendation, so recently I decided to try my luck reading something from this year’s Pennsylvania Reader’s Choice List. This was when I was first introduced to the book Trapped by Michael Northrop. I was intrigued by the cover and introduction: teenagers struggle to survive against the odds. In the hope of finding a new fictional tale perhaps...more

I first saw this book on Amazon on my recommended reading list. I thought it looked really interesting so I decided to pick it up. I can't say it was a great book but it was good.

So in the book, the main character Scotty and six other kids get stuck at their high school. A freak blizzard appears and they are forced to stay the night. They think the next day they will be rescued but the snow continues for a week. They have to find food and stay warm. Things start getting really dangerous and the...more

I think the big picture of this novel is just surviving and staying alive. Also working together to stay alive because eventually someone might start becoming psycho and crazy in the head and want to do something bad to themselves or to others. But so far its not that bad because they always have something to do, like listening to the radio or talking, sleeping, or working on the go cart.

My opinions about this book and the characters are that, i don't understand why they don't dig themselves out...more

I’ve read many books with unsatisfactory endings. Really, really unsatisfactory ending. But Trapped wins the prized gold star. I started getting a bad feeling when I reached those last, crucial pages… The book’s running out. Okay, come on, how’s this going to work… He wouldn’t just leave it like this. Would he? Answer: Yes. Yes, he would.

So apart from the awful, unsatisfactory, unfair ending, I really enjoyed reading Trapped. I found it on a list of “What-to-read-when-you’ve-finished-the-Hunger...more

Teen Death Books are a hot commodity right now.

I'm not knocking it; in fact, I understand the appeal. Be it survival fiction, dystopian fiction, or a combination of the two, a novel's tension is amplified when it becomes apparent that survival is not guaranteed for any of the characters.

Northrop's Trapped very deliberately taps into that tension, with its teenage narrator alluding to the deadliness of the storm from a vantage point an indeterminate time in the future. The concept itself is stro...more

The book I read was Trapped and it was written by Michael Northrop. It was published by Scholastic press in New York. My opinion of this book is great and exciting because so many events happen in the book. It was a fiction book so the setting was at Tattawa High School. The main characters of the story were: Pete, Jason, Scotty, Krista, Elijah, and Joulie. The story began with a normal school day than begun to snow. The conflict was Jason wanted to stay after school to work on the go car...more
