I got this in a package deal with So Over You because I really wanted to read So Over You and that was the only way to get it for free. (stated in So Over You's review.)
I really was ify about this because the whole time travel thing just had "bad idea" written all over it, because well..its time travel. I seriously thought this wasn't going to have a happy ending since Carrington traveled back in time and fell in love. No worries, happy ending, I promise.

It’s early days for 2013, but Totally Tubular is my favourite read so far this year. Absolutely adorable.
Carrington is fed up of dealing with her mom’s two bottle of wine a night problem and tendency to play “Careless Whisper“ a little too much. She’s meant to be the kid in the house, but she feels far older than her 16 years. Carrington heads off to the school dance dressed for the 80s theme in jelly shoes and crimped hair. While looking in the mirror in the bathroom at school, her reflection b...more

I love Gwen’s “short” stories! This one is fast-paced and fun. I especially liked the beginning and when Carri first “travels.” Some really funny parts/dialogue early in the story, as well as some bittersweet moments (particularly middle to late in the story). I loved the 80’s references, music, etc. and the idea of interacting with one’s parents as teenagers (the sex talk was funny, as well as the interactions with the nerds--especially early on). I liked the Serendipity Falls tie-in to FALLING...more
My guilty pleassure is sci-fi novels, I absolutely love them. So 2 months ago I just happened to find myself in the Sci-fi section of the Kindle store and I found this book. I read the blurb and it really got to me so I read it.
Carri goes to her school dance thinking that its an 80's theme but it turns out shes travelled back in time to when her mother, Heather was at school! Shes seen stuff like this happen in the movies before so she decides not to muck anything up for her future. She enlists...more

I really enjoyed this book. It was light and fun and I wanted to know what would become of Carrington and Nate's ill-fated love. The secondary characters were also interesting and fun and helped move the story along. The main issue I had was with the introduction of the supernatural - it didn't add anything to the story and I felt disappointed that Hayes thought the time travel story couldn't have stood on its own. I was also a bit concerned about how she would reconcile the age difference betwe...more

So this isn't the normal kind of book I pick up to read, but since Amazon was offering as a free download for the Kindle, I decided "What the heck? Seems intriging enough, I'll give it a shot." There ended up being similarities to Back to the Future, so if you enjoyed that you may just like this, but the two are definitely NOT synonomous.

Carrington lives with her divorced, alcoholic mother who is stuck in 1986. When Carrington attends an '80s themed dance at her own school, she has some weird moment in the girls room, and when she wakes up, she is back in 1986. This book is a nod to Peggy Sue Got Married, Back to the Future and Freaky Friday, complete with crimped hair and Jellies. Carrington, not understanding why she was sent back in time, and having no where to go, winds up living with her teenage mother, and heading to the l...more
I really liked this book which surprised me. Carrington and Nate were to sweet together. Getting sent to the past never looked so tempting. I thought she would only be there for a few days but it turned into months. I was concerned that no one thought it was weird she was living with stranger and no police were involved. The ending as nice but I wish that they remembered her and Nate remembered her but it ended with the likelihood of a Happily Ever After.
As always, Ms. Hayes delivers with the adorable and the cute and the romance and the fun.
Even though this one is a YA book, I think it might actually be better suited for adult readers (especially those of us who grew up in the 80s), since there are so many fun pop culture references. But don't be fooled--it's not just a way to glorify and poke fun at the 80s *coughHotTubTimeMachinecough*. There is a strong romance and a really cute storyline in here, too.

This is a perfect subject for a story for me, and I didn't even know it until I read this book. It's like I was waiting for this exact sort of thing but had no idea until I found it :) Makes sense? I don't usually. Love Love Love this. Love the tension of characters again and Love the writing and gripping story as well as familiarly hilarious jokes/puns/sense of humor that I eat up :) Amazing book, really! It was fascinating and so- me.

This looks nothing like any of Gwen Hayes' other books. "Falling Under" and "Dreaming Awake" have that whole creepy, romance vibe (which I loved, loved, LOVED!) and this is just bright, bubbly, and fun. While the concept of time traveling has always been ludicrous to me, this seems like something I will read, since I'm a fan of Gwen. Plus, who doesn't love a nerd?!
I don't usually care for young adult books, but this one was very, very good! I was more than a little worried about the ending, but I shouldn't have been - it was recommended to me by a couple of people that wouldn't steer me wrong! I loved how it was written - the style, the slang, all of it. I liked how the story played out. I will admit that our heroine handled dealing wither her mother in the past much better than I could have!! (You would have to know my mom, I had a hard enough time deali...more

Gwen Hayes (that’s me) lives in the Pacific Northwest with her real life hero and a pack of wild beasts (two of whom she gave birth to).
She is a reader, writer, and lover of pop culture (which, other than yogurt, is the only culture she gets).
Gwen is represented by Jessica Sinsheimer of the Sarah Jane Freymann Agency and her first Young Adult Paranormal novel, FALLING UNDER, will be released by...more
