This book is fabulous. Fabulous! I have read a few LDS marriage/sex books over the years (Between Husband and Wife - blah!) and this one is so much better than all the rest. It is a great book for improving your marriage relationship in general, and especially in the bedroom. It's respectfully written (it's "clean" - no position illustrations etc.) but still very informative. And it is written from an LDS WOMAN'S perspective. It is written for women, and especially women who find...more

I was looking for a book they would guide me in being proactive about my children's sex education and a friend recommended this to me. It turns out that there is two chapters on teaching children and the rest is about teaching yourself. It is by an LDS author, but would be fine for anyone, though she does assume in the first chapters that the reader is christian and familiar with scriptures. Much of the book help women to overcome the "good girl syndrome" which is overlooking all th...more

How embarrassing that I'm adding a sex book to my goodreads list!!! I guess I'll start by telling you how I came across this book:
A friend of mine told me that she read a great book about strengthening marriage. She told me the title, and I put it on hold at the library somehow missing the Sexual Fulfillment part. When the book came in, I got my e-mail notice telling me so. The library gives us one week to pick up books, and I waited the whole week before I went to get it. To my surpr...more

I thought this was a really good book. It wasn’t just a sex book but really was more about strengthening your whole marriage relationship and talked about how a lot of times sex problems are stemmed from other intimacy issues, whether they be emotional, spiritual, etc. Most of what I got out of this book was in the sections about “oneness,” and I kept finding myself totally agreeing with what I was reading. The parts about talking to your kids about sex were really good too. So, yeah. I re...more

So far, I've really been grateful to have found this book! Very clear and straightforward without me feeling like I need to censor anything. It's been nice to feel like I have a place I can go with questions without having to navigate the smut on the Internet. Gets beyond the textbook understanding of human sexual response and has been very enlightening for us with regard to the way women "tick".

This book is a must read for every couple! Laura Brotherson eloquently and masterfully helps the reader to recognize what it takes to build a passionate and loving marriage that will last the eternities. She helps good women and men recognize what keeps them from enjoying the precious gift of sexual fulfillment with their eternal companion. She teaches husbands and wives how to build not only their physical, but emotional and spiritual intimacies and helps them realize if they do not learn to bl...more

I'd heard this book was pretty controversial out West so of course, I wanted to read it. It is a very informative, helpful book about Christian relationships and the sexual powers we were given by our Father in Heaven. This book has really made me appreciate my body and realize that we must treat our sexuality in a different way than most LDS couples are taught to. There were a few new things I did not know and a lot of scriptural and prophetic references and quotes. This is my new wedding gift...more

I finally finished this book! It took me forever, because I have a difficult time with "self-improvement" books. One major problem with this book is that the author is incredibly redundant, which is a trait in writing that I cannot stand. It had good information, but I really believe it could have been half the size. The way it stands now, the book looks like a textbook. I do recommend the book, especially from chapter 9 and on. This book is more than a sex book, it is also a mar...more

This should be required reading for ALL married couples, no matter how long they've been married! It is written by an LDS woman. I am the first to admit I have always been very cynical about sex being only for men, but this book teaches how to make it fulfilling for women, too. There are many bonuses to reading it with your husband (you may just find him doing a little extra housework!) I really really recommend this book, and you'll probably want to buy it. I haven't finished it yet, but it ...more

what i appreciate the most about "and they were not ashamed" is its candid discussion about sex, and the gospel perspective it brings right along side it. i cannot say enough good things about this book. it is FANTASTIC. by far the best book on this subject i've ever read. i'm only about halfway through it right now, but i've flipped through the rest of it, and i can honestly say that i recommend this book to EVERYONE. seriously, read it, and then make your husbands read it.

I didn't even read the whole book, but I really disliked it. Maybe it just put me off that the lady (who has no real expertise as far as I'm concerned) suggests that you have a sexual obligation to your spouse (meaning, to keep your spouse sexually fulfilled to keep them chaste). I just don't agree with that, and don't want to read a book by anyone who suggest such non-sense.

I have yet to finish reading this book, because it isn't just a read page to page with out doing much. You have homework to work on, things to ponder and thing about before you can move on. I have struggled with believing that sex was ordained of God, and this book has helped me realize that it is a blessing from God. And not just that but that it truly is a way too show love, not just to get some pleasure. A must read for any married couple.

This book is written specifically for Latter-day Saints, examining many of the sexual attitudes, inhibitions, and stereotypes perpetuated throughout LDS culture. The author helps a couple examine their own feelings and opinions about sexuality and leads them on a clear path to greater sexual fulfillment (as the title suggests). I really like this book, and some of my more inhibited friends like this book too, so give it a try.

I'm still reading this book and I am amazed at how well written it is. The author takes a sensitive subject, gets right to the heart of it, is clear but not offensive and sheds light on a topic many women (and men) are afraid to have a real conversatioin about. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is married, no matter how long.

I think this is a fabulous help book for all LDS couples. It is candid, but makes you realize you are not alone in what you feel and think. It is sad that as a society we don't talk about sex more openly, especially in the LDS community. I know it is sacred, but still can be discussed sacredly.
A must read, for sure!

I'm still working my way through this book, but wanted to add it to my list since I feel it's a book that can help many LDS couples. Society has done a good job of messing up our sense of what a healthy sexual relationship really is. I recommend this book highly for any couple struggling (or not) with intimacy.

Ok, I'll be brave and admit it....... :)
I read through this on my own, and we're currently reading this again together. Definitely a MUST have book! Fantastic for strengthening your marriage if one or both partners are feeling a lack in the intimacy department.

Praticial from about ch. 10 on.
Author is well-read, informed - but she needed a good editor: her writing is too lengthy. Still recommend it to engaged couples and anyone wanting fulfillment (not just physically) in their most important relationship.

Vickie recommended this book to me one day about two years ago. It has helped Dan and I in our relationship more than you can believe. It is along the lines of sexual intimacy and how to solve a lot of the differences between a male and female.
