**This is a review of the 6 page preview provided by the publisher.
Well, ummm, uh, that is to say,

Oh, my. This book took my breath away. Literally. And not in the good way. I thought it would be funny in the same way you may laugh at a dog chasing it's tail. But this was just disturbing. I didn't like the artwork at all. It was creepy and the dialog didn't help. The heads of the characters looked a little too big for their bodies too. The preview showed a scene of Zoey and Aphrodite arguing abou More...

Some of the artwork (the cutaways in between scenes) was beautiful, the rest was pretty basic and nothing to write home about.
The story...eh. It's HoN. That should say it all. Either you love the books, hate the books, or are like me and happen to still be reading them because you have issues and refuse to quit after being so far into the series, even though you pick up each new book with a grumble of frustration.

This was my first introduction to P.C. Cast and I wasn't all that impressed. I realize that this is a graphic novel adaption of her books and that could have contributed to my bored state while reading this. I would be willing to read the actual first novel in her House of Night series to get a better feel for her as an author because I feel like this graphic novel had good plot potential.

House of Night: The Graphic Novel. First question, why the hell would anyone waste their time, effort and money on a House of Night graphic novel? Milking the cow much? No, TOTAL FAIL.
However, even the awesome graphic work can't fix the absolutely terrible story, crappy dialogues and horrible characters that belong to P.C. Cast.
Oh, I’m sorry. I just noticed that I mentioned the word “story” in the same phrase as P.C. Cast. My bad, P.C. Cast doesn’t write stories, she writes down unimportant sou More...

UGH!
Not only did this gn read like an episodic summary of clique battles and follow-your-heart-discover-yourself mush, but the art was very same-y. The colouring was great but all the girl characters looked exactly the same if not for their hair. The protagonist is like, oh I'm so different, but the art doesn't support that. Also there is Tons of mature content. Seriously why is this a teen book? These teenagers are basically on this quest to discover ancient porn. (Not that they actually try ha More...

The thing with the House of Night comic is that the first ten pages confused me because I haven’t read the actual books. This is a problem because comic versions of books are supposed to be another way to attract readers to read the actual books. I was confused and I had absolutely no idea what was going on.
Basically, the synopsis of the book is that the main character, Zoey Redbird is a fledging vampire (the book/comic spells it as “vampyre”). She has the problems of adjusting to her new body a More...

As you can tell by the look of the blog, I’m a creature ruled by visuals! So it comes to no surprise that I enjoy a good graphic novel here and there – especially if it’s paranormal in nature.
Such is the case with House of Night: Legacy – a graphic novel inspired by the YA book series. Here are the first three titles.
The premise really hooked me in and the amazing graphic art did not disappoint. House of Night: Legacy tells the story of Zoe Redbird, a 16 year old chosen by the goddess Nyx to le More...

I admit that I wasn’t a big fan of the first novel in the House of Night series, Marked, but I was curious to read the first instalment in the graphic novel series of the same name.
This book picks up a very short time after the first novel ends and assumes that you’ve read Marked. Zoey has just been given the leadership of the Dark Daughters and is unsure how to proceed. The Goddess Nyx comes to her and tells her that there are five lessons to be learned – one for each one of the elements that Z More...

I am giving this three stars because I love P.C. Cast, many people are pretty nasty about her House of Night Series, but I have loved this author since she began writing normal romance novels, starting with Goddess of the Sea. I enjoy it when she links mythology and history with her stories.
However this was... well kind of a diaster.
I did enjoy the art work, seeing how the characters I have been reading about for years are protrayed is very interesting. However if you read the fledgling handbook More...

Okay so I'm not very familiar on how to review graphic novels but I'll just do the best I can! I have always been a huge fan of the House of Night series. (Yes I know, they are dragging them along but I still enjoy them.) I think the world is very fun to be surrounded in and when I heard that there was a graphic novel on NetGalley I just had to request it!

House of Night: Legacy by PC Cast, Kristin Cast, Kent Dalian and Joelle Jones is a young adult graphic novel that works as a companion to the House of Night series, which began with Marked. This graphic novel, collecting the five issues of a mini-series, will be released on July 17 2012. The series, and the graphic novel, centers on Zoey Redbird. She had been a normal high school student, worrying about fitting in and family issues, until the day she was marked as a vampire fledgling. This sets More...

For somebody that has just recently gotten into picking up graphic novels, I have to say that I have become very particular about the ones I read.
I recently read the Wicked Lovely graphic novel and wanted more color and vibrancy to the look and pages of it, but it's a good and fun read. I also recently read the Vampire Academy Graphic Novel and felt there was not enough dialogue to go with the pictures, a lot of the character and world building was missing and for a short book way to much drama More...

I almost prefer to be introduced to a series through graphic novel. It gives me a quick insight as to whether or not I will like the books. House of Night is one of those series that I was curious about but unable to fit into my reading schedule. This graphic novel was a great introduction.

Well...
That says enough doesn't it? As you can see I gave it 1 star, so yes, it kinda sucked. I love the House of Night series. Well, I love some parts of it. Some characters of it and definitely NOT Zoey. Just wanted to state that fact.
I did not enjoy this graphic novel, even though I really love graphic novels in general. I got it from Netgalley so I didn't get to see the art work in "real". But I really disliked the art. Some parts were good but other parts were just awful. Not my thing, no More...

I really enjoyed this new addition on the House of Night series and it truly did compliment the books. The stories were fun to read since it gives a new version of the ancient people we know so well. This book can stand alone from the books but I truly suggests the reader to be familiar with the house of night series before they read this because it will add to the effect of seeing the characters visually in a graphic novel.

I had mixed feelings about this comic, which is based on a series of novels I haven't read.
At first I hated the teenage stereotyping of the main characters. Do American teenage girls really squabble like this about boys? Are they really this shallow and feckless?
Then I hated the misappropriation of some of the world's great mythic stories - Nyx, Persephone, Freya, et cetera.
But above all I disliked the way this story tames and domesticates the myth of the evil blood sucking vampire. This a more More...

There are some series that actually can benefit from the transition to graphic reinterpretation, while others simply cannot, no matter how good the artwork. I don't think House of Night counts as one of the better adaptations. The story covered in issue 1 takes place between events in the second novel of the House of Night series, Betrayed, so it assumes that the reader has already read the novels, and that's kind of an odd measure since it's a comic series intended to introduce/expand the franc More...

I was finally approved for the giant 6 page preview arc! It only took 3 tries! Now I just find myself confused. Is this based on the first novel? Cuz of the 6 pages, 4 had nothing to do with Marked.
Just sayin'.
No, really. Where did the Norwegian vamps come from? I know it's been a good two years since I read Marked, but I don't think I would completely miss a whole set of vamps from another country.
Next.

I read 6 pages on the Dark Horse website. That may as well be enough to review this. The only way I survived was by listening to this song during it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HEHHW0...
I might have not made it. So what did I think of those six pages?
The art work was so regular graphic novel-ish that it didn't stand out in any way. I love how once again Zoey is so self righteous and she and Aphrodite both can wear a short skirt, but Zoey doesn't look like a slut. Great, the slut shaming cont More...

I’m not the hugest fan of the “House of Night” novels (though I do read each one when it comes out), but I have to admit, both netgalley and Dark Horse had me quite intrigued when I heard that a comic version was coming out. And while this was only a sneak preview, it still told me enough about the comic version and gave me enough to compare it with the original books. While the art was pretty awesome (disregard the cover), there were some things in this preview that quite frankly, More...

I have never read any of the House of Night novels or anything by P.C. Cast in general and if they're all this bad then I have no intention of ever reading them. The only thing saving this from being a one star review is the nice cover and the pretty drawings in between chapters. The rest of the artwork was nothing special. Sometimes it was just horrible (big heads, sharp angles, odd poses) and other times it was just kind of bland. The cover was the reason I requested this on Netgalley, but if More...

I am wiritng my review for the entire series in this book because what I read was the ARC for the upcoming graphic novel collection.
First - in the interest of full disclosure - I have to say I had no idea this was a Y.A. series before I started reading the Graphic Novel, so I did not come into it as a fan, or have any preconceived notions of that the series was "supposed" to be like, or what the characters were "supposed" to look like.

SO I received this for review from NetGalley. I had previously read most of the novels so I figured I'd have a read of this. So my main problem with this is that the description made it sound like it would be the same story as the first novel, and if you had read the first novel you'd know that this is nothing like that.
It would work as a mildly interesting add on to the original series, but if you just decided to read this without reading the novels I think you would be unbelievably confused.

Being marked means that life is just getting interesting, but for Zoey Redbird it was just the beginning to the rest of her life. As a fledgling Zoey learns that friends are always there, and with any power comes the understanding that knowledge is everything. Being tasked to learn about the five elements, Zoey along with her friends learn that anyone can make mistakes, its learning from those mistakes. With some guidance form Nyx herself, Zoey is able to find that life isn't always a test she m More...

I read this graphic novel as I was hoping to have a bit of origin stories or something on the background of the book they refer to in the series. To be honest, I was bored as was my daughter who the comic (and book series) is actually aimed at for her age group. The art could be pretty at times, but overall, I would say just borrow this from the library or get it used or half priced. It doesn't really add to much to the book novel series unless you are a true or big fan of the House of Night ser More...

I love reading graphic novels, because sometimes I just want to SEE the things I'm reading about. You can imagine things in a book, of course. But a graphic novel turns words into art. That's what I love about them.
