I could not wait to start this book and I was torn between wanting to draw it out and savor it and finishing it as quickly as I possibly could.

Man I enjoyed this book! I loved the first one, and I really loved this one too. Evangeline's journey gets more interesting as she's hidden in the middle of nowhere with Leo, Max, and the Forero siblings. I had so many ideas of what was going to happen during the end, so many twists that would just ruin the story and make me curl up in a ball and be depressed for weeks. I can't help but wonder if part of Evangeline's curse involves loose lips and making "in the moment" decisions. She really knows how to make a bad situation a million times worse. Wait until Viggo and Mortimor find out. She's as good as dead. Sofie will likely be pissed if she keeps this a secret for too long. Now Veronique is truly in danger. I understand why she did it. Who wouldn't want their curse lifted? But seriously, she fucked up.

SPOILERS - So the book picks up with the fact that Sofie sent Evangeline, Max, Leo, Julian, and Valentina (didn't see that coming either) to a Siberia hideaway, after Caden nearly killed Evangeline once they returned from Ratheus.

Evangeline learns Leo is actually a wizard who was working with Sofie and that Sofie has been watching her her whole life and actually truly cares for her. You get the background on werewolves, Leo's past with Sofie, and the Tribe. It takes a while for the next twist, which is when they get sent to the Tribe when they realize that Valentina is possessed by Ursula and she attacks them at the cabin. Sadly, they lose Leo in that fight when he expends his final magic sending her, Julian, and Max away. Julian loses his entire family, and is hurt. While being healed by the Tribe, Eve finds out that he is actually part of the Sentinels, and feels betrayed, but doesn't want him killed so keeps it from Max.

The Tribe leader tells Eve he can help separate her and Veronique's souls which she agrees to, but which leads to more complications.

The book goes between NY and the mountain hideaway until the end when they all get re-united. While Eve is away, Caden, Sofie, Amelie, Mortimer, Viggo, Bishop, and Fiona are stuck with the other Ratheus vampires Eve did not mean to bring back with her. They are stuck in the mansion suffering blood lust. All hell breaks lose as the witches and Sentinels work to infiltrate them. Sofie tries to kill all of the extra vampires and keep Eve's friends from killing, while still trying to outsmart Viggo and Mortimer as to where Eve is. They will realize that some vampires got out and are killing and become allies with Mage, the original vampire on Ratheus. The witches do eventually infiltrate the mansion and kill all vampires except, Bishop, Amelie, Caden, Sofie, Mortimer, and Viggo. The group will end up racing to meet Eve at the Tribe's island where Rachel will attempt to kill Eve, but dies instead. In freeing Veronique and Eve from the necklace, Eve's blood becomes poisonous and Veronique becomes free and captured by the witches. Lots of good twists still and definitely picks up the story and keeps you reading.(less)

Ack! You guys, I'm at a loss. How do I write my review without revealing spoilers, especially for those who haven't read book one, Anathema?!? I'll try not to give away anything you couldn't deduce by reading the synopsis. This is a tough one, but I'll do my best.

Asylum, thankfully, picks up immediately where Anathema left off. Chaos has ensued. Evangeline, along with Max and Leo, have been whisked away to a snowbound hideaway to protect her from the vampires who want to kill her, including the man she loves, Caden. Heartbreaking, right? So, Evangeline, separated from her boyfriend and best friends, is devastated. Leo is his usual wise, faithful self. Max, who can't hunt as much as he'd like is super cranky. And the Forero kids, including the handsome Julian, are understandably upset and confused. Good times!

Meanwhile, back in NYC, things have gone to hell. Poor Sofie. She must contend with the ever manipulative Viggo and Mortimer, a ton of blood thirsty vamps, and her biggest hope, to protect Evangeline. If you had told me while reading the first two-thirds of Anathema that I would root for and love Sofie, I would have laughed in your face. Oh, how times have changed.

Asylum is very much Sofie's story. Yes, there is a good portion of the book from Evangeline's perspective, but since she is trapped in her "asylum", there isn't a lot of action with her until the last portion of the story. I did love the progression of her relationship with Julian, from distrust and resentment, to a true friendship. And, as always, I loved her relationships with Leo and Max. To see Evangeline struggle to maintain hope for a future with Caden and her friends was heartbreaking.

But, back to Sofie. This poor lady has to watch her back at all times! Everywhere she turns, there is someone (usually Viggo) trying to take her down. There are the vampires trying to escape. And her biggest, and most heartfelt, challenge is to keep her beloved Evangeline safe. I must say that I have grown to admire and adore Sofie as a character. At times, while she is juggling her many responsibilities, I don't see how she can keep all the balls in the air. Somehow, she always manages to pull through.

And oh... the ending. The last third of Asylum was crazy! And I can't say what happened but WOW! Evangeline...and Caden...and Sofie...and Veronique...and the FATE OF EARTH!!! Ahhhhh! I just reread the last chapter again and I'm still reeling!

I absolutely love the unique, dangerous, and enchanting world(s) author KA Tucker has created in the Casual Enchantment series. I quickly fell in love with book one, Anathema. And the magic continues at a whole new level in Asylum. Love, action, danger, betrayal...this series has it all!

In this book, Caden and Evangeline were separated because Caden needed to control his vampire self while near human blood.While I was eager to read this book, I was hesitant to read about Caden and Evangeline being separated considering they make the story for me. Luckily for us readers, Tucker has keeps us in the loop by giving updates on Caden while we read the story from Sophie's POV. I do think absence makes the heart grow fonder so I was a fan of Caden and Eve taking that break. It showed that both of them had a back bone and while missed each other dearly, they were okay without the other.

Reading the book in Sophie's POV was something I thoroughly enjoyed and liked the fact we could see how she cared for Evangeline and the others. I love the fact she found a friend in Mage, especially when she has been lonely for a while. I adored the protection she had for Amelie, Fiona, Bishop, and Caden knowing that they we're Eve's friends. Seeing her interact with Viggo and Mortimer was also exciting.

We also meet some new characters, one of them being Julian. Don't worry, I do not sense a love triangle at all. I can't wait to see Evangeline and Julian's friendship grow.

The writing in this book was as incredible as the first. The pace was great and Kathleen knew how to keep you reading and anticipating. Shocking secrets come out and of course, it's filled with twists and turns that make you gasp.

Overall, Asylum will leave you pining for Allegiance! That's it for this week! The first one is swoon-worthy and the second one made me cringe! What did you think? I'm LOVING Anathema!! Everything about this book is amazing! I can't wait for my review even though I'm not sure how I'll write a review without gushing about everything!(less)

She was exiled to an unknown location by Sophie when she returned from Ratheus (with company). Her only companions are Leo, Max, Julian and a few others. She is forced to relive the last moments with Caden over and over or die from boredom. Half way around the world, Sophie is now alone in New York, left to deal with the Ratheus vampires, and the duo of Viggo & Mortimer. Sophie’s actions at the end of Anathema reveal she loves Evangeline, like a daughter, and will go to the ends of the earth to protect her. As expected, V&M are not happy Sophie has been lying to them and that Evangeline is gone. They have waited too long to for their love, Veronique. Now, Sophie must deal with the Ratheus vampires, V&M and discover how to free Evangeline from the curse.

We continue to learn more about the characters especially Evangeline, Caden, and Sophie. I will say I liked how these characters grew with the story. We do meet several new characters including Mage and Julian. I like these new characters, especially Mage. Her character really adds to this story and I can’t wait to see how she impacts the next book. KA Tucker has a phenomenal way of giving human emotion to her characters, I felt connected to them as I read this story.

Once again, I was blown away with how 2 separate stories are weaved together to give you this mind blowing ending. The ending to this book literally had me at the edge of my seat. I was not disappointed to where the story ended. My only disappointment is I have to wait until next year to find out what happens.

Asylum --book two in the Casual Enchantment series-- continues Evangeline's journey trying to break a curse that would be the end of her. Not only does she have to deal with a curse, she's being hunted by a thousand year old vampire, and the man she falls in love with can't control his blood lust and tries to kill her.

Oh my, I could NOT get my hands on this book fast enough! I read the first one in a day (well more like one night) and the next morning I was going crazy trying to get this one! Ahhh what to say without giving away hints?

I am hooked on this series, so many different stories woven together and one twist after another. There was more action and magic in this second book and setting the scene for book 3 with the war imploding on the scene in New York. There was minimal romance but considering the distance it was understandable as Evangeline is hidden away for most of the book for her safety and Caden has to overcome his bloodlust. In the second book of the Causal Enchantment series, it literally starts right where the last one ending… flipping between Sofie’s version and Evangeline’s version.
So much happens within the first few pages of this book, I was SHOCKED by Cadan’s callous attitude, I figured he was lying, but he was just so GOOD at lying that for quite a while I actually believed him when he said he did whatever he had to in order to get out of Ratheus.

Tucker has done it again! Asylum is one of those books I didn’t want to put down because of everything that was happening within the story. This book is filled with claw biting excitement, heart-break, and mystery. If you haven’t read the first book of this series, then I suggest you do so as soon as possible because Asylum picks up right after the events in Anathema.

Unlike Anathema which is told entirely from Evangeline’s point of view, Asylum is told both by Evangeline and Sofie. Rather than focus entirely on the events taking place in Evangeline’s life, Tucker flawlessly blends both points of views and allows her readers the opportunity to follow Sofie around as she tries to deal with things back in New York. Having Sofie’s point of view allowed me to not only get to know her better as a character, but also opened up new insights into events that occurred in the first book. Questions that were not answered in Anathema were answered here thanks to Tucker giving us Sofie’s point of view. Course, new questions arise from this as well, but that was to be expected.

As if the alternating points of view were not enough to make this story great, Tucker’s characters continue to shine throughout the pages. I found a new favorite in Mage, a vampire who is much more than she seems. Readers only got a brief glimpse of her in book one, but in Asylum she is in the spotlight! She’s strong, cunning, mysterious, and so much more. I really hope she’s a part of the third book. Murr! I also greatly enjoyed seeing more of Leo in this book. He is another character who grew on me as the story unfolded. Actually, it seemed to me as if Tucker decided to develop her secondary characters more, allowing them their moment to shine and gain attention. This choice has definitely made the story more complex because you start to see more of what is at stake and how intricate everyone’s involvement in the Casual Enchantment really is.

Now I will admit that in the middle of reading the story I did have to walk away for a short while. Not because I wasn’t enjoying it mind you, but because of the tragedies that take place. Yes, that’s right, I said tragedies, plural. I will not say which beloved characters die as that would be a spoiler, and I don’t approve of spoilers, but I will say that I had to mourn their passing for a few days. I shall also admit that I did not see these deaths coming. I expected something bad to happen, but I didn’t fully expect this.

The ending left me yowling in disbelief. Poor Evangeline seriously cannot win! Just when it looks like she’s going to get her wish…oops sorry, almost gave away the ending there. Well, let me just say that at the end of the book you will be wishing that book three were available, because once again Tucker leaves you with a cliff hanger. The adventure has only just begun it seems and the ending, when it comes, promises to be spectacular!

So to wrap up, allow me to say that I am greatly impressed with the world that Tucker has created. The Casual Enchantment series has been a joy to read and I’m very sadden by the fact that I have to walk away from it for now. This feline’s paws are itching to find out what happens next! Absolutely excited to be on the blog tour and review Asylum. Taking off immediately from where Anathema ended, Sofie is staring down blood thirsty vampires from another planet. She knows Evangeline is safe, but herself, not so much. She has the likes of Viggo and Mortimer to contend with. Sofie just sent Evangeline somewhere safe away from Viggo and Mortimer’s clutches, so yeah there is going to be hell to pay. They need to get ahold of Evangeline and get that pendant off her neck to bring back their lost love, Veronique. But Sofie won’t chance waking up her sister if it means hurting Evangeline. Sofie has grown to love Evangeline as if she were her own daughter. Will Sofie find a way to save both her sister and Evangeline?

Evangeline on the other hand is god knows where…in a cabin…buried in snow…with no idea when she will ever be able to leave. Plus she has the moody Forero kids to live with. Thankfully Leo and Max are there to keep her company and hopefully out of trouble! But when the only thing you see when you close your eyes at night are the blood crazed red eyes of the one you love staring you down, you tend not to get much sleep. Will she ever be able to be around Caden again without the fear of him ripping her throat out?

Gee whiz what a roller coaster of a story! Asylum was so full of twists, secrets and nail biting anticipation I was sad to see the book come to an end only to have to wait for the next book. Seriously, that ending was crazy good! Not to mention the characters, oh yes, gotta love these characters. There are some you will love to hate, and some you will just love to love. For instance Caden, with fangs bared you can't help but love him. Another character I grew to like was Mage, the scary 2000 year old Vampire from Ratheus. Allow Asylum to suck you into its world of vampires and magic...and I promise you will not regret it. People are claiming vampires are old news; not with K.A. Tucker’s Causal Enchantment series…in fact they are just getting started!

First Thought: I still want to punch Viggo in the damn face!

After finishing Anathema I, every so patiently, hounded K.A. until I knew when Asylum would be out! There was just something about Anathema that grabbed a hold of me and didn't let go until the end. It was such a breath of fresh air when it came to vampires & I've never seen someone mesh current day with dystopia quiet the way she did.

I found the first one better than this one but it was still good enough to finish. I thought it was a little slow but an easy-read and no love triangle. I love triangle as much as the next person. Ok scratch that I hate love triangles. Mostly because they always have me biting my nails until I feel that I'll die if I don't know who the heroine chose. But luckily this had no love triangles. SPOILERS BEWARE: I was a bit saddend by the loss Fiona but that's probably the only bad thing

Asylum picks up where Anathema left us and man, so many things happen during this book that I am sitting here shaking my head wondering "when will I get my hands on the next one?"....
Evangeline is such a great character that you love reading about her. Also in this book, we have alternating POVs and are allowed the chance to know more about Sofie. It is so amazing to learn all that she has done for the events to come to where they are in Asylum. Plus, all the other little secrets that come out d...more

I literally could not put this down, well, except for when I spilled soup on my iPad. I don't think I'll ever be able to formulate a coherent thought about this book, so do me and yourself a favor and just read it. It makes Anathema seem almost boring...almost. Now the hard part will be waiting another year to finally see how this all plays out. That and getting matzo out of my iPad case...
