I really enjoyed this book. Sure there was a little more bloodshed than normal, and not that much romance, but I didn't mind it at all. But there was one thing that kind of didn't sit right with me and it was to do with the bonding between Zane and Beth. I would expect it from a PNR but not in a romantic suspense and I found it a little bit unbelievable. I'm really looking forward to finding more about the sub characters especially Mac and Amy's story.

A diamond in the rough, Trish McCallan's Forged in Fire delivers submachine guns, admirable heroes, and heart-wrenching, nail-biting suspense back to the genre.
Romantic suspense novels deliver tension. Joe has to save Jennifer or Jennifer has to save Joe and the country, but most romantic suspense novels fail to deliver the other half of that coin: the practical details that lend realism to unimaginable scenes. These details also lend weight to the hero's plight and credence to his credentials. More...

Wow!! I want to rate it a 10! This is a new author for me, but one that will be an auto buy from now on. The only negative to this book is having to wait until March to read the next book! This one ends on a cliffhanger. The suspense, characters, and romance come together to make an amazing book! I couldn't put it down!

3.5-4 Stars I did not expect to enjoy this at all except for maybe the hot men. I am not a fan of military/cop/weapon type stories. This was grabbed me by the neck and dragged me into a story I couldn't put down. I was looking for the clichés, woman does not listen to warnings gets taken away, man doesn't listen to woman gets shot, or the usually stupid woman makes stupid choice puts all in danger just because she's angry... you know it's how 95% of stories go. I was reading and seeing trouble c More...

3.5 Stars. Not bad at all for a debut (self-pubbed)novel; the author and the series show a great deal of promise. I can’t decide whether the novel was intended to be Paranormal Romance or Romantic Suspense, as the story has elements of both genres.
This first half of the book, which takes place solidly in an airport, has a “24”ish quality to it. Everything moves in real-time, and fast. Zane and his SEAL buddies are waiting for a flight to Hawaii, to attend a wedding. Beth, an airport employee, ha More...

A fast action romance suspense, impressive for a debut. I think fans of Catherine Mann or Nina Bruhn will especially enjoy.
Albeit a highly implausible story, it was entertaining! Lt Commander Zane Winters has a history of seeing visions of events to come. Though they are never clear and detailed, they are always accurate. So when he gets flashes of danger on the airline him and his SEAL team 7 buddies are about to board in 90 minutes, they all know to take him seriously. But just as they are pu More...

Beth shows at Sea-Tac airport after having a nightmare of a flight being hijacked and passengers being killed. One passenger in particular that she remembers from her dream is Zane Winters. Zane and his buddies are on their way to Hawaii to attend a friend's wedding. While waiting for their flight, Zane has a vision of his friend, Cosky, bloodied and dead. Zane is in a race against time to put the bits of pieces he has from his vision to stop whatever is going to happen from happening.

My first thought by the time I completed chapter one: What the heck was I thinking leaving this gem to languish in TBR land so long???!!! My second was: Why is the next installment not available until 2014? Why isn't she writing right this minute and every minute until it's done? And my third was aarrghh! I forgot we had a power outage and neither of my readers was fully charged. Curses! Loudly!

This is why Self-Publishing is going to flourish. No one would pick this up as a debut book. Seriously, I can't think of one publisher who would take the chance on this book for so many reasons...and all those reasons are why I loved it:
Non-stop action.
One day... forget about the unneeded setup.
Lots of backstory, but none of it dumped.
And it's a cliffhanger of sorts. THIS story is wrapped up nicely, but there's *a lot* left to carry to the next book.

Some jumbled thoughts ...
I enjoyed it, but it was skimpy on background for both Beth and Zane, especially Zane's (and his family's) gift. Didn't like the way the 'soul mates' trope was used - it made the romance seem forced. Everything happens in one day but the book didn't feel rushed to me. Lots more action than romance, and a cliffhanger-like ending. Interesting enough for me to look out for the next book in the series, which is Cosky's story.

All I can think of is...wow!!!
This book was not what i thought it would be when i read the blurb.. yes romance in it, but was so fast paced, I was scared to put it down!
Okay got a Navy Seal.. ticks my box everytime!
A bit of paranormal as he has visions when he touchs people... sounds good!
Throw in a girl who has dreamt about a hijacking and seen him killed..though she claims she isnt psychic
Equals what you think will be a romantic story with some hot sex thrown in for good measure.. okay we inde More...

Amazing! You will be on the edge of your seat the entire time during this book. It's action packed filled with a thrilling heart pounding chase that rivets you from the get-go! I was impressed how well the romance interwove! It worked with just that added sense of paranormal. It definitely rated up there with what I was hoping to read. The sex of the book was tastefully done and was still scorching hot!

Truly enjoyed this book as I snatched it off Amazon (1/2012)after I missed it as a freebie the first time I saw it. Just found out that (9/2012) that the book has been edited again to add a better ending. It had been left with a very open ended version that sort of surprised you that there wasn't anything further to read to complete the story and wrap up loose ends.
Great plotline that moved along at a decent pace. Enjoyed the character development and how backstory was woven;that really had me More...

As I read this novel, I thought I was reading a seasoned suspense author with several novels under her belt like Christy Reece, Cherry Adair, or Anne Stuart. I also thought I was probably in the 2nd book or further in a military suspense series. Imagine my surprise when I checked her web site to learn that this is the inaugural novel for a fledgling author! I’d liken it to a little league player visiting Yankee Stadium and blasting one out of the park!
What an awesome novel!

There's a lot packed into this book. I don't normally read books with para-elements, but I'd heard good things about this books so I thought I'd give it a shot.
I loved getting to know Zane, Cosky, and Rawls. Their CO Jace Mackenzie was a little harder to love, there is a man with serious women issues! I really liked Beth as well. She didn't take any crap from these big, alpha SEALs.

Beth has a dream about a terrorist attack on one of the planes belonging to the airline she works for. In her dream, she sees all of the coach class killed. Deciding to see if her dream rings true, she takes a vacation day, books a standby flight on that plane & enters the gate. She sees several people she recognized in her dream.

This was a 4* half a book - but I am just sick and tired of authors (and publishers - but in this case it doesn't apply) publishing HALF a book. I'm also getting tired of reviewers not warning me clearly that I will invest 4 hours in a book and then want to throw my kindle across the room.
A cliff-hanger ending is one thing ... and I don't like those particularly. Are authors really so insecure they think I won't buy their second book if they ACTUALLY FINISH their first book?
Sorry rant over.

Well I finished Forged in Fire (The Forged Series) and I have to say it was a bit of a shocker, I like action but this book is like 90% action and the other 10% is steeped with suspense. I am not sure how to rate it, it is addicting (to me anyway) and I am sure I will be getting the sequel but the breakneck pace and the ending which was more of a pause in the action and left a lot of questions will not sit well with me more than about 1 more book. Felt like I needed a drink after I finished it j More...

3.5 stars - A psychic SEAL and a mate bond connnection gives Forged in Fire a Ghostwalkers/Paranormal Romance vibe. Zane Winters is getting ready to fly to a wedding with his SEAL buddies when he gets a cryptic vision of his friends shot to death on the plane, so when a sexy woman approaches him knowing his name and telling him of a crazy dream she had in which the plane is hijacked and all of the coach passengers - including him - end up slaughtered, he believes her, much to Beth's relief. Okay, so honestly, I'm still working on finishing up this book. Had a bit of an issue to deal with, and I got behind on getting it read. BUT, with that being said, I'm going to tell you that I am almost done with it and it is AWESOME!!! Ms. McCallan made this book absolutely, completely captivating! From page one she brings the reader suspense, and keeps them hooked throughout. I'm still trying to figure out the whys and the whos of the plot line!

I admit to a certain amount of feverish obsession with Paranormal Romance novels (read: obsessive fascination). I was looking for something new to read, as I've exhausted my current round of new releases and decided to try something a little different.
I usually do not enjoy modern urban fantasy.
That is to say, most of my reading material is anything BUT urban fantasy settings. I prefer European locales with fantastical creatures dreamed up from the depths of someone's mind. Werewolves, vampire More...

Zane winters has an uncanny way of knowing when his team mates are in danger, his ‘premonitions’ are so accurate they never doubt him and believe that Zane is psychic. When the men are approached in the departure lounge by a woman claiming to have ‘dreamed’ their deaths on the flight they are about to board, they don’t take much convincing that it ‘is’ going to happen. They take immediate steps to ground the flight but it soon becomes clear that key personnel within the FBI are compromised and t More...

The first word that comes to my mind after reading this book is,
::Intense::
At times,
I did not realize that I was holding my breath.
I read the book in one day, that is how engaging it was for me.
It was full of action, suspense, kidnapping, plane high jacking plans, blood, and full of bullet dodging.
Note:
This book is..
Not for the faint of heart.
There is a rape mentioned in Chapter 9, although it is not graphic,
some people may be a bit uncomfortable reading about it.

When I pick up free reads, I don't expect much from them. This book absolutely blew me away. The romance/suspense formula is perfect and it's written amazingly well (edited and published well too). I fell in love with the characters and I definitely look forward to reading about them in future books.

Best LOL of the book:

To begin with, I have to say this book grabbed me from the opening pages with the terrific alpha males lead by Zane Winters. I love strong alpha male characters and Zane was just the right mix of soft and steel.
While at times Beth Brown's character drove me crazy with her reluctance to believe in the connection she shared with Zane, the action was enough to keep you on the edge of your seat.

What would you do if you woke up one morning after a the most real dream you ever had? What if one by one the events in your dream began to come true? First a fire at an abandoned warehouse, then your friend calls to talk to you about a divorce and finally you watch as the entire coach section of an airplane are shot to death one by one, the first class passengers held for ransom and then hi-jacked to a foreign country you've never heard of before? I have to say I love reading novels about Navy Seals, this one did not disappoint. It even had a slight touch of the paranormal for those who lean toward those stories. We have Seal Team 7, waiting in Seattle to take a flight to Hawaii for a wedding. Tall muscular guys, all gorgeus, why don't I ever get on a flight like that! Beth our reluctant heroine has a vivid nightmare about a plane being hijacked, and she "see's" some of the victims. It bothers her enough, that she takes time from her job More...

3.5 Stars for Forged in Fire.
This book was fast paced and very engaging. I really liked the way that Trish McCallan told the story and even the same scene from various points of view. That was very unique and allowed the reader to get inside more than just the main characters heads. The entire story takes place in like 12 hours, so you definitely have to suspend some reality when you're reading. I found the story to be very entertaining.
