THE PROMISE OF DEER RUN by Elaine Cooper delivers a historically accurate story. As a historical writer, I appreciated the enormous amount of research that must have gone into this novel. Massachusetts, at the end of the Revolutionary War and as a new nation is dawning, comes alive to the reader. I was happy to see the church centered life of America in this time period depicted as such an organic and integral part of the story, as it surely was a natural way of life to people back then.

The War for Independence is over, though its after-effects may never be for those who suffered through it. The United States of America was forged on the backs of strong men and women who battled, held true to their dreams of a better future, came home from the front and carried on the best they could to make those dreams come true.

Elaine’s lovely sequel to The Road to Deer Run picks up several years after Daniel and Mary’s story began. Years after the war is ended wounded veteran Nathaniel Stea

A delightful read - loved learning about Nathaniel and Sarah, and getting reacquainted with Mary and Daniel. Sweet romance with an engaging story.

The American Revolution is over, and Nathaniel Stearns is sent home by his father to check on his wife and children, and to tell them that he’ll be home posthaste. But when Nathaniel arrives home in Deer Run he finds his brother dead and the cabin deserted. He learns his mother and sisters moved to Boston. Nathaniel stays in Deer Run to wait for his father

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. Typically, if I receive a romance to read & review, it's passed on to my wife to read. She'll either write up her own review, or tell me what she thought of it. This time, however, I determined to tackle The Promise of Deer Run myself. I'm glad I did.

I found the characters to be quite real, even though set in a vastly different time in history. What I truly appreciated most, however, was the centrality of faith in Christ throughout this book.

It was such a pleasure for me to return once again to Deer Run! It’s been seven years since the Revolutionary War ended, and now it is Sarah Thomsen’s turn (little sister of heroine Mary from Book One) to experience the joys and heartaches of love. Nathaniel Stern is a lonely war veteran who suffers deep, emotional battle scars as he long awaits his father’s return from war and mourns the loss of his younger brother.

Sarah and Nathaniel have eyes only for each other. Their sweet and tender courts

Revisiting the residents of Deer Run feels like coming home. This story, The Promise of Deer Run, comprises love, pain, and reunion. Settlers flourish and return to a normal existence after the end of the Revolutionary War. Nathaniel Stearns leaves his father behind at West Point to return to Deer Run and the family they left behind. Upon arriving, he discovers that his mother was forced to move the family to Boston, so he sets out to revive the family farm. His lonely life is interrupted by his ...more

In honor of our upcoming Thanksgiving I wanted to share a post from Elaine Marie Cooper. She is the author of The Promise of Deer Run. This is a warm loving story taking place in the 18th century during birth of our nation. I loved the setting colonial America especially during this season. Thanksgiving always makes me wonder of our roots, settlers new to a wild world. And finding hope right around the corner of their new lives. Life continued on til we had to break away from our apron strings a ...more
The Promise of Deer Run more than lives up to the promise of the first book in this delightful series. It picks up with the story of Nathaniel and Sarah, an intriguing hero and heroine well worth your time in getting to know. Featuring a well-rounded cast of supporting characters--many returning from the first book--and told with humor, pathos, faith, emotion and a fast-moving plot, Ms. Cooper knows how to craft a fine story that will remain in your mind and heart long after you've finished. This is a great book about a family dealing with the effects of the American Revolution. The story is about Sarah and Nathaniel and their story of love, misunderstandings, forgiveness, marriage and becoming parents. There is plenty of emotion as Nathaniel deals with his nightmares of war and his missing father. It is a story of romance, but there is plenty of action stuff for us men.
