THE PROMISE OF DEER RUN by Elaine Cooper delivers a historically accurate story. As a historical writer, I appreciated the enormous amount of research that must have gone into this novel. Massachusetts, at the end of the Revolutionary War and as a new nation is dawning, comes alive to the reader. I was happy to see the church centered life of America in this time period depicted as such an organic and integral part of the story, as it surely was a natural way of life to people back then.

Author Elaine Marie Cooper hits another home run with the historical novel, “Promise of Deer Run.” As the second book in the Deer Run series, Cooper continues the story of families learning how to live and love after the Revolutionary War.
Wrapped within a corn husking, courtship and the birth of a new generation comes the penetrating problem of PTSD. What did soldiers do in the 18th century with no counselors or support groups?

How did they deal with recurring nightmares and the fear of abusing

Book two of the Deer run Saga, “Promise of Deer Run” by Elaine Cooper is not only a wonderful love story, but a great history lesson as well. Inspired by stories of the late 1700’s, “Promise of Deer Run” is a gripping tale of life in Early America. A Veteran Soldier dealing with memories of the War, the struggles of making a living on the farm, and courting traditions are a few of the topics that are addressed. And yes, there is plenty of romance to satisfy the most romantic of hearts.

Genuine Characters with Believable Struggles Met With Strong Faith and Hardy Spirits

Promise of Deer Run is a wonderfully written slice of life story set against the backdrop of post-Revolutionary War, colonial America. The characters are loveable and endearing, with very real problems and feelings, concerns, and fears common to any era. Their strong faith and hardy spirits take them through a multitude of struggles. I found myself caring very deeply for Sarah and Nathaniel and their families, an

Elaine Cooper just keeps hitting winners out of the park. With “Promise of Deer Run”, she has once again managed to bring the reality of the American Revolution and all the hardships of the time period into a well-rounded story of the Lowe and Thomsen families. Her books in the Deer Run series continue to be personally inspired by the love story of her great-great-great-great grandparents between the years of 1777 and 1783. She has been able to bring the hardships of family separations followin ...more

The year is 1790 and the American Revolution is long since over, but a battle still rages in the hearts of survivors. Painful memories of war haunt one young veteran. He still waits for a father who never returned from battle and feels the sting of betrayal from a former love. Withdrawing into his own world, he clings to one hope — perhaps his father still lives.

Only one person in Deer Run seems to understand him — nineteen-year-old Sarah Thomsen, who struggles to bury her own war memories. The

Promise of Deer Run by Elaine Cooper delivers a wonderful sequel to Road to Deer Run. For those who didn’t want to Promise of Deer Run end, this continues the story in 1790. We catch up with the many characters introduced to us in the first tale, and now we follow Mary’s younger sister, Sarah’s story. Sarah, no longer a child, has formed an attachment to Nathaniel Stearns, a young man who still struggles with his memories of the war. Both Nathaniel and Sarah have suffered losses and find the fut

Though it’s been eight years since the muskets of the Revolutionary War have fired, echoes of trauma still haunt Nathaniel Stearns. Despite the loving support of new wife, Sarah, he still longs to see his father, who inexplicably did not return home after the treaty celebrations.

Elaine Marie Cooper’s Promise of Deer Run takes readers back to 1783, in the midst of the triumph and challenges of The United States’ hard-won freedom. And yet, many issues the characters faced still remain today—medic

Post Tramatic Stress Syndrome or PTSD is not new to us at this time in history. Unfortunately it is not new at all. Suffering the ill effects of stressors, whatever they may be, is not confined to those who have fought a war. This suffering is brought forth so very well in this wonderful book. Nathaniel has fought in, and survived, the Revolutionary War as had many others. The resulting wounds were not all visible to those around them. Sarah was a child during the war, losing her father to drown ...more

The War for Independence is over, though its after-effects may never be for those who suffered through it. The United States of America was forged on the backs of strong men and women who battled, held true to their dreams of a better future, came home from the front and carried on the best they could to make those dreams come true.

Elaine’s lovely sequel to The Road to Deer Run picks up several years after Daniel and Mary’s story began. Years after the war is ended wounded veteran Nathaniel Stea

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. Typically, if I receive a romance to read & review, it's passed on to my wife to read. She'll either write up her own review, or tell me what she thought of it. This time, however, I determined to tackle The Promise of Deer Run myself. I'm glad I did.

I found the characters to be quite real, even though set in a vastly different time in history. What I truly appreciated most, however, was the centrality of faith in Christ throughout this book.

It was such a pleasure for me to return once again to Deer Run! It’s been seven years since the Revolutionary War ended, and now it is Sarah Thomsen’s turn (little sister of heroine Mary from Book One) to experience the joys and heartaches of love. Nathaniel Stern is a lonely war veteran who suffers deep, emotional battle scars as he long awaits his father’s return from war and mourns the loss of his younger brother.

Sarah and Nathaniel have eyes only for each other. Their sweet and tender courts

Sarah is grown up and finding her way in Colonial America. It's a treat to watch her grow from teenager to adult in the story, and delightful to keep up with the rest of the family.
