I have the personal sized, black and white floral cover design copy of this Bible and it is gorgeous!
This is my first Bible and it will probably be the only one I ever use. I love the NLT translation first of all. I don't know why NIV is so popular. Both NLT and NIV are modern translations, but I find that NLT is much clearer in the intended meaning, whereas NIV can leave me guessing for days.

This Bible is a great version for study and easy reading. The study guides are wonderful. On many pages, the study guide is half the page and the Bible reading is the other half. The Bible is brought into clarity with this version. I highly recommend it to anyone!

I am going to abstain from assigning a number of stars in this review because I don't want to confuse anyone; I would not presume to give stars to a major religious work like the Bible. Obviously the Bible has a lot to offer for a lot of people, and is important to understand if you are seeking to have an understanding of the culture and history of Western Civilization. Nonetheless, if I were assigning stars to this Bible, I would give it one because of the infuriating commentary and notes that

I have used this Bible for daily reading and personal study for about 10 years. I find so often the meaning of the text is enhanced and when I don't agree with comments made, it challenges my own pre- conceived ideas on many Bible narratives, Biblical theology, Ecclesiology and Eschatology. I would certainly recommend this Bible for personal use and study, although it may not always be appropriate for preparing Sermons, homilies or exegesis.

Ok... so you all wills say why did she read the Bible. Well after a life of being taught about the history of our Bible. I did not get it. So, I took the challenge to read it as a history book. Not a religious lesson. I give it three stars because it was a very hard read for me. But I was focused on finishing this challenge as a personal challenge. This book is broken down into a daily read of about 20 minutes each day. It puts all the different books of the Bible into a chronological to the bes

I LOVE the Chronological Bible! The insights this kind of reading provides are wonderful. And this edition really shines when you read about the kings of Israel. Whether it's the events of David's life interspersed with the Psalms that he wrote to commemorate each one, or the failures of later kings interwoven with the voices of the prophets who rail against them--I think this is an essential part of a serious Christian's library. I know my copy will never be far away.

A nice readable translation, giving some extra descriptives where the metaphor might be lost in English. Also translates into estimates for English units instead of Ancient ones (Feet and inches, instead of Cubits, Pounds and Tons instead of shekels and talents). Also translates dates into approximate Gregorian calendar dates, which is nice. The commentary is all about (as the title might imply) applying the text to your life. Not a lot of history, but a lot of application. Good Stuff.

I've read through many different study bibles in my work as a youth minister. I haven't found any to be easier to understand or have more useful information than the Life Application Study Bibles. The NLT version works well as it is generally seen as truer the the biblical text. In general the commentary does a great job giving very useful information right on the page regarding the historical activities going on during the time of the verse being referenced.

currently trying the read=through method where you start in Genesis, 1 Samuel, Job, Isaiah and Matthew and read 5 chapters in one of those books then alternate and move forward through the Bible from there. Currently around chapter 26 in most of those books and getting ready to move into 2 Samuel. Enjoying washing with the water of the Word in a season where I am sort of perplexed. It is good to have His Word and know THAT is His voice.

easy-to-read wording; my wife has the New International Version NIV but there have been some times this Bible's wording was a bit more understandable.
I would recommend a new method of Bible reading - Professor Horners Bible Reading System (http://thelawmanchronicles.blogspot.com/...) - odd long name but give it a try....

While I've only recently received this bible I'm already enjoying having the study notes there. Really helps add depth and understanding to the passages, particularly for a scripture neophyte such as myself.
Amusing that there is a "date I finished this book". If I ever find myself "finished" reading the bible, then my next of kin will need to notate the date. :)

This is the first Bible I read all the way through, and I even read all of the study notes. It's a great Bible for everyday reading. The notes focus on practical life lessons that can be learned from the passages, not on technical issues that many people might not be interested in.

It's laid out well and allows you to better understand the different stories, and the main characteristics of key people. I really like the footnotes that you read to gain a more in-depth understanding and how the messsages apply today.

I am always reading my Bible. It is the backbone of all knowledge and wisdom.
I do take umbrage that the author is listed as "Anonymous." God inspired the writers to write the Bible and many of them are known by tradition.

I was looking for a version of the Bible to read that was writtin in plain language and included notes that would help me understand how all of this applies to today's world. I was very happy with this.

Really helps me understand the history of certain scriptures and the context behind them. I always feel better informed about how to lead a more successful christian life

Good overall, but some commentary & notes have a very modern leaning and ignore historical understanding.
If you are looking for a good study Bible, try the ESV Study Bible.

Actually, I think mine is genuine leather. The commentaries in this Bible are a wonderful help! I wish I had this Bible during my younger, pre-teen to teen years.

Best Bible for anyone who wants to understand what they're reading. The easy reading translation of the NLT is awesome, and the sudy footnotes explain everything.
