I wanted this to be better than it was, and liked parts of it enough that I felt like it deserved three stars, but it kept wandering from two to four in quality.
The metafiction of this book is that other than one short story, it takes place well into the career of an established heroine, and thus we are supposedly reading issues 1, 124 and 295-300 of an ongoing series...the rest of which exists only in the author's imagination.
Miranda and her father are a bit like Alan Moore's Tom Strong and fam...more

I think this is one of the best books I've read in years. It's amazing to me. The story follows Miranda Mercury and her teen sidekick Jack Warning. Yes, Jack Warning. The name is awesome. The conceit of the story is that while Miranda and Jack go along doing impossible things Miranda is slowly dying. This creates a great amount of tension between the two main character. The great thing about it is that it never gets down. It has the appropriate amount of seriousness and emotion for the situation...more

I want more! This felt like and ending that was just the begining and I definitly need more of Miranda Mercury and Jack Warning. I want to know about her family that we were introduced to simply by name. How did she and Jack partner up? Can Jack save bring her back? So many questions, so many opportunities for Mr. Thomas to give us more stories. I enjoyed this so much that I did not do not want it to end.

So this is a little bit confusing as I feel like this graphic novel starts way back in the beginning and then suddenly jumps into the middle of the story. I didn't find the ending terribly clear either. That being said Jack and Miranda were interesting characters and some of the adventures were very entertaining. I do like Jack better then Miranda though.

Oh, I really wanted to like this. Strong female protagonist, lots of sci-fi action. But sadly it wasn't really a volume one. The story started strong, with Miranda as a little girl, but then jumped to an issue in the late 200s! I just couldn't keep up. Hopefully someday the creators/publisher will release a gn that starts Miranda's story from the beginning.

This was a blast to read -- fun and imaginative sci-fi, full of crazy ideas. The storytelling in some places was not as clear as it should have been, so call it 3.5 stars. But I definitely want to see more from this creative team, and more stuff set in this universe.

New (to me) find at the library - good read. Well written and well drawn, tight story-telling with a positive message.

Now this is what I'm talking about!!!!!!!!

Great book. Beautiful, vivid illustrations and fantastic characters. Miranda is a Boss Chick, and I am so eager to know what's going to happen in Vol 2. I'm intrigued by her relationship with Cyrus Vega, and what Jack is willing to do to save his bff. Well done, Mr. Thomas!
