Debut

Night Stalkers Don’t Quit

The 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (Airborne) or S.O.A.R. has recently celebrated 30 years of service in the U.S. military. They have been involved in every major combat operation since Grenada in 1983. Their pilots are some of the best and most highly-trained in the military, transporting Special Forces specialists to and from the battle field.

The hero -

Major Mark "The Viper" Henderson stood two paces inside the rolled-back flap of the tent, on...more

A hard-as-steel Army major who’s the best Black Hawk pilot. A captain who is his equal in everything but rank. An attraction as hot and heavy as the Afghanistan desert they work in lies between them, one that can’t be acted on. A sudden reassignment stateside removes the captain from her beloved flying, leaves her grounded – in the White House?

Oh, yeah, this book has as many twists and turns as that old Mississippi. Maybe even more. And through it all, the sparks arcing between Major Mark Hender...more

Whoa! At the 97% mark, I still couldn't figure out how this book was going to end. IT. WAS. SO. FREAKING. GOOD!!! Full review to come, after I let the story stew for a bit in my mind. Really an excellent book!!

My Review:
I don't even know where to start this review because I loved this book so much. Seriously, from page 1, I could not put this book down and when I was sitting at the 97% point in the book, I still couldn't see how there was going to be an HEA. OMG, it was so good, so suspenseful,...more

I was very ambivalent about this one.

Things I loved.
1. GREAT detail about the equipment, lifestyle, maneuvers, etc.---something I love in thrillers written by men but less often found in romantic suspense. It really "takes you there."

2. There is lots of excitement, twists and turns, suspense.\

Things I didn't like.
1. The heroine was just too perfect--there wasn't anything she wasn't the absolute best at from flying helicopters, to shooting, hand to hand combat, cooking, you name it. The h on...more

4 3/4 stars!

Great introduction to the SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment) members known at the Night Stalkers whose motto is NSDQ (Night Stalkers Don't Quit). Emily Beale is the kind of kick-butt heroine who is good at everything she tries, except for her failed romance with the 'boy next door'. The only woman in a extremely talented squad known for its expertise at flying helicopters, including the essential Black Hawks, Emily fights many preconceptions based on her gender. A mysterious...more

Romance in an Afghanistan desert war zone? Sure, when a petite but whoop-ass pilot joins the ranks of SOAR (think 'Black Hawk Down') under Major 'The Viper' Henderson. He's hard as nails because he's hot for her, but its against regs. But the heat is there, and its like long slow foreplay as these two fly dangerous missions while battling their attraction.
But Emily grew up with the president (her dad was a FBI director) and when things starting going wonky at the White House, she's enlisted to f...more

I spent several of my undergraduate years engrossed in gender studies. But a guy writing trashy romance novels for women? That made me do a double-take. I couldn’t help myself from buying one of his (M.L. Buchman) books to see for myself what his mass market romance, complete with (hot) pink cursive title and (very hot) beefcake on the cover would read like. My verdict? It reads like a guy wrote it. And there’s something hot about that. I mean, we (educated, normally level-headed) women who have...more

This book was so much fun to read, mostly because for a great portion of the book I couldn't figure out the bad guy or just where the story was going to go.

I loved that Emily was one of the few elite helicopter pilots. I also loved that she didn't try to be super manly, yes she did fit in with the guys, but the guys respected her too based on her actions.

I hated the whole yanked to the White House detail that came up. If I had been Emily I would have been so pissed!! But this cush job turned ou...more

I loved this book. A military romance about elite helicopter pilots written by a man? That was all I needed to know. I was immediately intrigued and Mr. Buchman didn’t let me down. THE NIGHT IS MINE is the first book in a four-book series (because there’re four seats on a Black Hawk helicopter) featuring “women pilots who fly for the immensely secretive, real-life U.S. Army SOAR.” The next book is scheduled for August later this year and I’m preordering.

There were a number of things that really...more

This was one really hot action packed military book! Really adored it, I have a strong love for military novels and this one did not disappoint. The secrets, the suspense and the romance just all rocked in every sense of the word.

The explosive feelings between Mark and Emily blew me away. I would never have expected the book to have such a awesome twist I really did not see it coming. I loved that Mark is this really scary but at the same time a...more

The Night is Mine by M. L. Buchman has got to be the lightest-weight military-oriented romantic suspense story I've ever read, in spite of the number of times the heroine gets injured. What I'm saying is that I found the story to be a tremendous amount of fun, and I absolutely got sucked way into it the first night, but that I totally checked my reality-meter at the door. And I had a wilder ride than any of the chopper pilots in the story!

Book #8 of 2012

Picked this up on a whim at the bookstore (just noticed that the expected publication is 2/1/12. Bought it on 1/21/12. I wonder if the store stocked it too early?). I guess its one of the subsets of the romance genre that I enjoy (there's really only one I don't enjoy, but that's neither here nor there), one that features a big bad alpha military male. In this book that roll is filled by Major Mark Henderson. Sometimes, big bad alpha military male types feel like they have have to...more

Review-
Night is Mine is the first book in a new series by M.L. Buchman. And if you like a strong, smart, independent and kickass heroine, then this book is for you. Emily Beale is a heroine that doesn’t need rescuing, she can do that herself. It’s nice to read a book about a strong woman in a male dominated field, girl power to the max. Honestly, she was probably too badass and too perfect to be believable but hey this is fiction and it’s fun to...more

Normally flying in and out of danger, the new assignment for Captain Emily Beale is not what she expects. And then starts the mystery in The Night Is Mine, a first book in a new romantic suspense series. Is the world ready for Captain Emily Beale? Because ready or not, here she comes.

Is it really still a man's world out there? Emily is angry about the way she's being treated, especially after a segment featuring her doesn't show the e...more

I was not expecting to like this book. I mean honestly. How many MEN do you know of that can write a good trashy romance? M.L. Buchman can. Okay, so it's not really as trashy and explicit as most women's romance novels are, but the love story here is so genuine and real that there really is no need for it to be any more detailed.

It reads like a man wrote it. That much is obvious. But, he has a pretty decent grasp on how a woman thinks and feels as well. It's a nice change to get the male POV du...more

This was onsale at Barnes & Noble so I decided to give it a whirl. Not a bad read. It was nice to focus on another aspect of the military with the black hawk pilots and a female pilot to boot! But I did have some issues:

This female pilot is the best thing ever created apparently. The best pilot. Not only that but a gourmet chef which later plays a role in her mission. And she's hot. And she's best friends with the President of the United States. And she's pretty much a bad ass mixed martial...more

I would really like to give this book 3 1/2 stars. It was an interesting look at a "superwoman" helicopter pilot who has gone where very few women make the grade. She has a hidden attraction to her C.O, but loves her job too much to act on it. It seems Major Mark Henderson, said C.O, has the same feelings. She is pulled from the war torn country she is flying missions in, and brought home by the request of an "old friend", who happens to be the President of the U.S. She is posing as chef for the...more

This is the first time I'm reading romance book written by man (yep, M.L. Buchman is a man). I will said The Night is Mine more like military novel with romance aspect, not vice versa. The heroine, Captain Emily Beale is bad ass but imo, too perfect and superwoman. And why all men love her, huh? Do that make her like Mary Sue? I think not, but I hope the author make her with more flaws and not too high class. Emily is a daughter of FBI's director also the USA President's childhood. She...more

Solid, despite what I'm going to say next, which is more along the lines of a musing than a criticism. Slight spoilers follow.

This book has two parallel love stories: one couple comes together while another couple comes apart.

Part of me didn't like it. It's a love story, for crying out loud! We're constantly bombarded with real-life stories of unhappy marriages, love affairs, etc., so why do we need it here?

Captain Beale, you go girl! Major Mark... crafty ;)

The best way to review this story is just stating what I like and didn't like, because much like the story preached, it is black and white, no gray area.

What I liked:
I liked the relationship tension between the Captain and the Major first and foremost. Plus, I love that Emily Beale was badass!!! The story definately took turns that I did not see coming and I enjoy the surprises lurking around the corners.

What I didn't like:

Personally I loved this book, Who would not like to read about a kickass female in one of the highest most elite forces in the military? She was pulled from her duties to serve as a personal chief for the first lady of the USA only to find out later she was there to protect her and the president from an assassination threat but she did not know about the threat till it was all over and done with. Her commanding Chief took leave to come help her an...more

This military suspense romance pulled me in before shoving me away.

Captain Emily Beale is the best helicopter pilot Major Mark Henderson has ever seen. He’s her commanding officer in Afghanistan, where they both fly for SOAR, the elite group of helicopter pilots who get special forces into—and out of—the most dangerous missions.

Mark has to be careful to hide how much he loves flying with Emily, not just because it could cost one or both of them their careers in the Army but because she deserves...more

This story started out very well for me. The cover is nice, the blurb sounds good, and when I start reading there's a kick ass military helicopter pilot female, and a hot alpha male helicopter pilot. So far, it has me hooked. I love military couples, I love kick ass heroines, and I have a thing for pilots. Maybe this has to do with my obsession with the TV show Pensacola: Wings of Gold back in the 90s. But nonetheless, I was ready to enjoy this.

The Night is Mine by M. L. Buchman is a collective throttle into an interesting suspense! Buchman's descriptions are an "All Access Pass" for what lies in the cockpit. I thoroughly enjoyed all the attention to detail, it felt as if I were sitting in the pilot's seat. I just adore a good military suspense, Emily played her part well, yet I was left without the more serious tones I 'm used to in a romantic suspense. I enjoyed the story until the rules of engagement changed and Emily became the Fir...more

Emily Beale lives to fly helicopters. Being the first and only female pilot to fly helicopters for SOAR (Special Operations Aviation Regiment), she is a big deal. These SOAR pilots are the rebels of the bunch. They wear their hair long, and have beards, to blend in wherever they are stationed. Currently she is running missions in Afghanistan. SOAR helicopters provide Special Forces with nighttime transpiration and protection. She is the best of the best, and strives everyday to maintain this. On...more

I picked up this book because it looked like it might be similar to Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooters books which is an all-time favorite series of mine. The only real similarity between The Night is Mine & Suzanne's Troubleshooters is the military background.
The main characters were great! They had depth & the reader quickly invests in them emotionally. The storyline was also well written, with a twist I didn't see coming. My only real problem with the book was the endless informatio...more

Wow. The Night Is Mine rocks...seriously rocks. I found military romance late, so I'm still catching up on the authors out there, but M.L. Buchman is now on my favorites list. I saw a review that mentioned the romance didn't click for them-- really? I actually held my breath through some of the scenes with Emily and Mark. Damn. I haven't been in the military, but I imagine that their issues are real ones for soldiers who fall for other soldiers. There are rules, and consequences that have to be...more
