Featuring Dayan, member of the Dark Troubadours (with Desari, Barack and Syndil), Dark Melody began very promisingly and quickly disappointed. Dayan is a great character, tall dark and brooding to a fault, with that perfect blend of poet and bad boy - truly a classic archetype; how could Feehan screw this one up?

Even Corinne, damsel in distress, is one of the better heroines - her husband has been murdered, leaving her six months pregnant; her heart is weak and the baby will kill her (even witho

My keyboard's comma-key is broken that's why there are no commas in this review. Also this book is probably not quite as bad as my review will paint it but I only just finished it and the anger hasn't worn off yet.

Maybe this book deserves 2 stars rather than one but I am just so sick of Feehan's Carpathians series. The books are just unforgivably similar. I keep reading them because I like the setup and every once in a while am in the mood to read something incredibly stupid. With Feehan you pre

3.5/5.0

In this installment of the Carpathian series, Feehan takes a turn from the formula. Instead of running, fighting and chasing vampires while searching for lifemates, we settle down some. Dayan (a favorite yummy treat ) finds his lifemate in Corrine but immediately realizes there is a problem. She has a defective heart and will not live long. Now anyone reading this series might think, "what's the problem? The Carpathians can heal her". Well, not so fast - she is also pregnant and Dayan can

First, the heroine had been with someone else before meeting her true lifemate???? What's up with that. Elen previous books of virgins and Feehan sticks a pregnant woman in the mix!!!!!!!! No way! That was a turn off and than Corrine was a professional whinner, a Raven / Savanna clone who got on my nerves. It tooks months literally months for me to finish this one! Even the appearance of Gregori etc towards the end could not salvage this story for me. Corrine destroyed this story. And yes I know ...more

I was dissappointed with Dark Melody. The premise is good but instead of concentrating on the story line, Feehan got wrapped up in 101 ways to describe a hot guy and his dark mysterious eyes. By page 60 something I actually said outloud - he has dark eyes I get it - move on already!
The repetitive imagery and metaphors overpowered what could have been a tight and tense plot - bulking out the book perhaps but were frustrating to read, which was a shame since the action scenes were mostly well writ

So we're back with the band and I really liked this one.

For many reasons.

So, if you remember, everyone in the band (Dark Challenge, Dark Fire) has a lifemate except for Dayan. At the end of Dark Fire, he went on the run with the human, Cullen Tucker, evading the human society of vampire hunters.

(see my reviews for these and others here)

He meets Corinne, a songwriter. The complication? Corinne has a heart condition, she doesn't have much time to live. On top of that, she's pregnant with her husba

I liked this book more than I thought I would - I think it helped that there were some major appearances of previous Carpathians (even Jacques and Shea) and some teeny tiny mentions of the 'evil' society helped matters out.

Dayan is not really an interesting male lead, Corrine isn't the best female lead (though interesting with her weakened heart and she is the first to have been with someone other than her lifemate) and Lisa was just so so annoying and selfish and... to be honest, if the society

I skipped to this book because I was so disappointed that we did not get the reunion between Gregori and his long-lost siblings in Dark Fire (book 6) that I was hoping for. She decided to wait until book 12 to do this.

It wasn't quite as satisfying as I thought it would be, but I have a feeling that is because it was a different narrator and I hated the way Gregori and some of the other men were voiced. It is hard to listen to a series when they keep switching narrators. Sometimes it's a good thi

SPOILERS!!!
This is the story of Dayan and Corinne Wentworth. Dayan is a lead guitarist in The Dark Troubadours. His story begins with him playing in a bar despite the danger of being hunted by a group of human fanatics. He is accompanied by Cullen Tucker who was introduced in Dark Fire. He had warned Darius and Tempest of the human fanatics and is now on top of the vampire hunter death list, along with The Dark Troubadours. Both are in a bar because Dayan had a strong compulsion to be there.

From Publishers Weekly

In the 12th installment in Feehan's paranormal Dark series (Dark Symphony, etc.), she again creates a richly evocative fantasy world in which immortal Carpathian males search for their "lifemates" and battle soulless vampires. When young telepathic widow Corinne Wentworth walks into the bar where Carpathian Dayan, of the legendary band the Dark Troubadours, is playing, he immediately recognizes her as his lifemate ("He heard the soft murmur of her voice, and at once his w

Although I can't say this was one of my favorites, I did quite enjoy it. I am seriously wondering if I read the same book as some of these more negative reviewers! Maybe it has had a rewrite?! I skipped it on my journey through the series, partially because of the pregnancy factor, and I haven't been a big fan of the Dark Troubador group. The pregnancy was well explained and to me understandable, but maybe embarrassing? She basically loved the previous husband a s a friend. It made sense. As wit ...more

I can't review this impartially. I need a break. After having read 13 of these books back to back I can no longer give a fair opinion.

If I have to read the word "sheath" or "velvet" one more time I will become a homicidal berserker.

I'm taking a break from this series, which I think has incredible potential in terms of world building and characters, but gets lost in the vapid prose. Perhaps a break will improve my opinion.

I feel this one gave a little twist to the helpless Virgin lifemate that made me vaguely happy. Still not exactly a great read but or some reason, I can stop reading them.

I enjoyed Dayan and Corrine's story. This one took on a totally different twist than the usual journey between lifemates. Dayan's lifemate did not only have a very serious heart condition but she was also pregnant. I really enjoyed their journey, the intimacy & love they established before the sex. I loved the way Dayan accepted her and all she came with. How he battled to keep her and her daughter alive no matter the cost. I felt these two really had a love story not just awesome sex. I mea ...more

This was an entertaining book but I couldn't give it more than 3 stars because of all the repetition. It's nice that Dayan is so attracted to Corinne but the description of his love and lust for her just goes on and on and on throughout the book. Feehan is notorious for this type of repetition, but in a book without a lot of action, it is just so very apparent. I did, however, like the variation in the heroine. Corinne is human, pregnant, and struggling with a fatal health condition. She is also ...more

I knew I wrote a review for this and found it. I gave it a 2 star at the time but over the years I can still remember, and am frustrated by, the memories. The repeating of worries, the plot manipulations, last minute saves. Anyway, my review from 2010 July

I've read many books of this series and have been disappointed with only two. This one was one of them. This is not to say that there are not issues with the others too, but in the end they were good reads.

OHG. This book was along time waiting. This book is a continuation of book 5 (about Julian Savage and Desari) and book 6 (about Darius and Tempest). Book 12 is about Dayan, the last of the Dark Troubadours. After leaving the group for a break away from all the couples, Dayan has been traveling from town to town playing in small clubs and bars. It's in one of these places where Corinne Wentworth walks in with her best friend and sister in law Lisa Wentworth. As soon as she speaks Dayan sees all t ...more

In this one we travel to the Cascade Mountains where Dayan has gone to get away from the lovey dovey couples of his newly mated family. He’s not so much jealous as that it is making it hard for him to resist the ‘dark side’. Cullen goes with him in order to hide from the human vampire hunters. And of course that’s where their destiny lies.

*spoilers*

This is a different type of story. The danger isn’t so much in bad vampires and human vampire hunters, though they are in here. But the main crisi

3.5, more like it.

Christine Feehan was the author that got me into paranormal romance, and actually back into reading again. I read the first few of the Dark series one after another, but I have been away from them for a while. So, Dark Melody was a bit of a change for me. I like Feehan's books...the Ghostwalkers are one of my favorite series, but I found that the Dark series was drifting a bit. This one, I found different. There is no sex until the last pages of the book, but it really isn't ne

I'm listening to this audiobook. Thank goodness the narrator is back to Rebecca Cook. I also have the paperback.

I've realized after what 12 books that every single woman is always tired, only having any kind of energy for a few hours a day. I realize that they are fictional but these women are a little unusual, okay a lot unusual. Have they never stayed awake for 24 hours? Most of these women are in their 20s so I don't understand why they are all so tired. In this book of course the heroine is

Using the music he once felt in his heart to be able to survive centuries without emotions, Dayan played his music and watched as his family finally found their other halves. Hearing the music of the Dark Troubadours had always left Corinne Wentworth with such an odd feeling, but actually seeing one of the bands members perform was a rare treat she would take with her always. Dayan could not believe he had finally found her, only to find she had a high risk pregnancy because of advanced heart fa ...more

Previous books introduce a musical group of Carpathians, known as the Dark Troubadours. Most of the members are newly paired to their life mates. As a single male, close to turning, Dayan separates from the band. During his absence from the band, he discovers his life mate.

In earlier books, Dayan's character is interesting, but plays a supporting role. In Dark melody, you learn that he is an amazing talent capable of solo performance. He remains in contact with Darius and values the family relat

Dark Melody is book 12 in Christine Feehan's Dark Carpathian series.

Let me just begin by saying thank goodness for this book! I am totally back on the Carpathian bandwagon now. Dark Melody was so much better than Dark Descent (book 11 in the series).

Dark Melody is the story of Dayan, lead guitarist for the Dark Troubadours. We first met the band back in Dark Challenge (book 5 of the series), and by book 6, Julian had Desari, Darius had Tempest, and Barack had Syndil - everyone had a lifemate exc

I have been thoroughly enjoying Feehan's Carpathian Series. I can't say what it is, but something about these men and women keeps leading me back to them. As I have been a fan of Darius, Desari, and Dayan's characters since they were introduced in previous books, I was really looking to Dayan's story. Unfortunately, I found myself dissapointed w/ this book, and couldn't help but feel that something was missing. No matter how much I wanted to, I just couldn't lose myself in this story like I did ...more

This book was a torture to read. Dayan's character was so boring and flat not to mention he shamelessly used convulsion to get information out of Corinne , he was very manipulative and had no decency in him , didn't even ask her about things he just got the information using convulsion it was disgusting and disrespectful. Corinne was missing something , I don't know she was just blah . The characters had absolutely no chemistry whatsoever , I didn't understand how could they be made for each o ...more
