Wicked Game
Cass Pendleton and Jaime Dalton have been mortal enemies since the first day of kindergarten when Jaime pulled her hair and Cass knocked him flat on his ass.
Jaime is on the verge of superstardom in the NFL; all that’s missing is a Super Bowl ring and a personal assistant who can handle his business without handling his business.
Cass seems to be the best person for the job....more

"Property of Number 4 Miami Football." Where do I sign up for that gig? Just tell me when and I'm there!
Who knew temping at a nanny agency would land you in the lap of luxury and the lap of one of football's most eligible bachelors? Certainly not the recently unemployed Cass Pendleton and she definitely didn't think that lap would belong to her childhood nemesis, Jamie Dalton. Cass and Jamie have been bickering since they were 5 years old when he pulled her hair and she knocked him out!

Um... so, this didn't start too well.
The heroine is sarcastic and angry, because... hm. And the hero is... because...
Skimming, skimming, sex scene.
Okay, what??
Whoa!
Right now, this feels like it needs another dimension. In a very bad way.
And, since my OCD will most definitely not let me just leave it unfinished, I'll give it a rest for... indefinite amount of time, 'til I'm able to give it a chance.
Hopefully, it'll turn out to be good.
Or at least bearable.

I wish I hadn't read this as fast as I did. I loved it! I loved the verbal sparring between Jaime and Cass. They were so cute together. And HOT. Ms. Celeste is wonderful at perfectly describing scenes and atmosphere without using long blocks of text (which I appreciate to no end). A couple of my favorite scenes: phone sex on national television. God, I just loved that people were speculating about who Jaime was talking to. Also: the scene in the hospital when Cass curls up in bed with him. So fr...more
This is a GREAT read. I loved it! It was a little slow when they were talking about how bored Cass was while she was taking care of Jaime, but the sexual tension and the banter back and forth between Cass and Jaime was so funny and hot. Quite the dynamic between the two of them, especially given their past history and where they came from. I loved the ending. The sex scenes were SUPER hot. It really talked a lot about football but not so much that it was annoying. And it was not a FSOG-type book...more
I have to say I loved this book. One of the things I look for in any book is good dialogue. If an author can write good dialogue, I'm pretty much hooked for life on them. MS. Celeste can do that in spades! Snarky does not even begin to describe these two characters. From the first meeting in the book, down to the last, they are sniping at each other. I loved it. Throughout the book, I found myself laughing out loud at the put downs and comebacks.

Wow! I was pleasantly surprised how much I liked this book. Made smile quite a bit. Sure, the baddie in this was so obvious and ridiculously overdone. (Like seriously? I wanted to slap so many characters for not even suspecting that person! Really? You honestly can't think of anyone else who would be a threat? (view spoiler) -_- ) I also hated the ending, but boy, was this...more

When the book started out I wasn’t sure if I was going to go the distance, but I'm so glad I did. There's a definite quirkiness to the characters, their relationship, their banter, sex, and the writing.
Jaime Dalton is an NFL player needing a PA. Cass Pendleton is an out of work school teacher needing work - it's an economically desirable match. The problem is, they know each other from childhood, there are plenty of memories of mutually shared personality clashes that make you think t...more

Tons of fun, kinky with hints of BDSM. Loved it. Reminded me a little of Backstage Pass in the crazy sex (less here) and dealing with fame.

Hmm... I am sort of torn on this one. I went into Wicked Game by Mercy Celeste expecting a warm and funny adult romance novel, but that is not how I would describe this novel. Wicked Game was more kinky and erotic than it was romantic. Yes, the main characters, Cass and Jamie, have a romance, but it isn’t a sweet and tender love story. The first half of their relationship is all sex, mind games, and bickering –not...more

This book really surprised me. The beginning really grabbed me and then I thought it was just ok. The more I read, the more I liked it. I must say that the sex/love scenes were explosive and very steamy. The relationship between Cass and Jaime started out as an I hate you thing. I enjoyed Wicked Game by Mercy Celeste, but at times had a hard time believing the animosity between the two main characters. One minute she was seriously hating him and the next was having hot sex with him (then back to hating him again). I understood that there was a pretty big "back story" to their relationship from when they were kids. If more of that had been included in the book maybe I would have found it to be more convincing.

Who doesn't want to get a piece of a hot and successful NFL quarterback? Well there is one girl that doesn't want anything from Jaime Dalton, his childhood nemesis Cass Pendleton.
When Jaime finds himself looking for a personal assistant to help him keep his life in order, the perfect choice falls on his lap. Turns out Cass has been unemployed for a while and who better to come to her rescue than him? He knows he should be safe with her, I mean, no way wo...more

OK I really, really enjoyed this story. I loved the adversarial nature of Cass and Jaime's relationship. He was used to people caving because he's a gorgeous professional football player, but not Cass. He dishes it out and she shovels it right back to him. I loved their fights! Or "foreplay" as one of the mom's said, lol. I liked that Cass didn't want anything to do with his money besides what he contracted to pay for her job. She didn't want the designer clothes, she chose a wagon style car (gr...more
I will be very honest and tell you that Jamie is a complete asshat for the beginning portion of this book. He has a strong personality and does not take no for an answer! While this may rub some people the wrong way, I liked it because it established him as a strong male character and when a strong male character is around, I am rarely bored!
Cass is not a weak woman, not at all. She takes the job with Jamie because he makes her an offer she cannot refuse but I had a sense that she had a little c...more

Touchdown! 4 1/2 stars! This one had me laughing right up until the end. Awesome dialogue, great couple chemistry, a bit of suspense, and a whole lot of down and dirty lovin'. There is some light BDSM, mixed with humor, nothing hard core. Jamie and Cass' first sexual encounter left me a bit miffed, and wondering what the heck happened. After that they just connected really well and it was a very amusing, steamy read. Yes, they were verbally harsh towards one another, but in my eyes it was never...more
I usually don't really enjoy the enemies-to-lovers story line, but it worked well this time. Fun banter and genuine tenderness between the characters. Ultra light BDSM, with a focus on domination/submission and mild bondage.
My only real complaint is that I knew who the bad guy was as soon as they were introduced. I couldn't believe Jaime didn't even consider it when he was making a mental list of enemies. And that Cass didn't suggest it when she found out about the threat. They graduated magna c...more

The best reaction I could muster for this book was boredom. Finishing it was a chore. I kept checking out to do Sudoku puzzles or play Mahjong.
The story went from loathing --> sex in 2.5 seconds; there was no real build up. The change ambushed me, and made no real sense. Plus, the bickering got *real* old...*real* fast. So beyond merely annoying.
So, I'm completely indifferent, and I expect more from my books than mere indifference. I won't ever be reading this book again, and I consider it a...more

Mixed emotions about this one. On one hand, I love a child nemesis turned lover story. On the other, I dislike stories with obvious conflicts that supposedly intelligent characters don't see coming until the very end. And can I just say that oh, I didn't have time to stop for a condom, you aren't on the pill, let me pull out is not sexy! It took me a long time to get over that one. No me gusta! Strangely, despite this annoyances, and a couple grammatical errors, I was still able to enjoy Cass an...more
So when I saw the title of this book I imediatelly began to hum that Christ Isaak song "Wicked Game". I like the song and needless to say the video is very hot ;)
The description sounded good. I really needed a sexy book full of sarcasm and this looked like one. But.. *sigh* the first half of the book was just AWFUL. There was a lot of 'jumping around' in the plot, and the characters became annoying. I stopped reading it. And then today I came back to it, and suddenly the book was a hundred time...more

theres a very high rating for this book. it gets a 15 stars from me because of its awesomeness!!!
this was a fantastic read. with tons of hilarity, sarcasm, sex, ...
Cass and Jaime went to school together and were always (or they appeared to be) mortal enemies. when fate throws a curve ball and they end up working together, him as her boss and she initially as his PA then his everything lol. eventually too much tension combusts into red hot passion. If you like your contemporary romance to sizzle then Wicked Game by Mercy Celeste is the book for you. I’m a real sucker for an alpha male with a sporting background and full of testosterone so Wicked Game ticked all the boxes for me.

It took me some chapters to really get into this story, but then I was pretty amazed how many layers the author managed to put into a tale that seems pretty harmless at first. I love how the emotions come slowly, sneaking through the bluntly displayed hate between hero and heroine- that came over as pretty genuine and authentic, and in the end, the story was extremely satisfying and authentic- it went the whole nine yards, so to speak, with a HEA that fulfilled everything I like in a story. 4.5...more
Before I review this book, I need to find out more about this author and where she comes from. Something smells fishy, and I suspect a former fandom author. What I don't know, is if this is a former fanfic. I could very well be.
Looking at her books, her website, who she publishes with - something just doesn't feel right.
For now I'm putting up 3 stars for this book - sort of right down the middle - until I figure this one out. And until then, I won't say if I loved the book or hated it - right no...more

This book was short and sweet. How two people knew they were in love since Kindergarten, but hated each other at the same time. There love was made with Whips and Chains, but they made it happened. It worked for them, and they were both stubborn, to give in. Love the comical part of the books how they treat each verbally, but can have the most explosive sexual encounter ever. Loved Lord Ironman and Pepper, what a hoot. Oh and the mom's how comical were they, they were giving there kids a drugs,...more
Smoking hot! I'm not usually a fan of celebrity based books, but by emphasizing the nitty gritty aspects of the job rather than just perks humanizes the story. Both protagonists are loveable, and their history makes it all the funnier and hotter.
But be prepared to sideswiped, 'cause just when you think it's just another snipefest suddenly it's an inferno. Blazing hot and blindsided. Just like how Cass feels. Plus her reaction to her reactions are priceless.

It's no secret that I just cant stop falling in love with a H/h with some history vs. the meet, insta-love and HEA we see a lot in this genre. If my "childhood nemesis" - who now happens to be a sculpted God in a football jersey- offered me a 6-figure salary to be his Girl Friday, I'd hop to it without a fight! But not Cass...or Pepper as Jaime likes to call her! The dialogue between these two is adversarial yet hilarious. As the hero's mom states, more like foreplay than anything else, it's the...more
From their first day in kindergarten Cass Pendleton and Jaime Dalton have been enemies, each other always trying to best one another in some form. So imagine Cass Pendleton's surprise when she is interviewing for a job as a personal assistant for Jaime Dalton. His idea of hiring Cass is perfect, it will be amusing and he will be able to drive her n...more
