Shy Cowboy, the third and so far last book in the Uncommon Cowboy series, is loosely connected to the other two, as it is set in the same area and the characters know of each other. Tom is another wolf shifter and Cass is a cowboy with an inferiority complex due to his size. Being tall and strong is no defense against being bullied, and I loved that Jan Irving took this up as a partial theme for this book.

When wolf shifters find their mates there is little they can do to avoid the inevitable. Tom Black is fighting tooth and claw to keep his attraction towards his shy friend at bay. But no man or wolf shifter can an avoid destiny forever.
I have to begin with saying that I just loved this pairing. It’s a complete role reversal. The wolf shifter is the smaller more submissive man and the human love interest is the large and in charge alp...more

This started out interesting. I loved the idea of big shy Cass and protective Tom. I was enjoying the side story of the mysterious shifter, but then things seemed to start focusing on the sex and the story kinda stopped, then just at the end we pick the story back up in time to lead into the next book.
I’ve enjoyed Jan Irving’s stories in the past, she writes some wonderful characters, but sadly I find her sex scenes extremely lacking in either romance or hotness. (but at least there were no kitt...more

I don't normally jump into the middle of a series, but I just couldn't help myself with this one. Cass is a sweet, sexy cowboy smitten with his friend, Tom. Tom is a submissive wolf shifter who would love to be dominated by his shy friend. When a rogue wolf tries to steal Tom for his own, Cass's protective instincts come roaring to the forefront.
Although this tale is short, it still managed to get enough character development done to allow me to empathize with Cass and Tom. The tentative relatio...more

I quite liked the shy cowboy in question, Cass. He's a big guy crushing on a small guy and very self-conscious of his size. He's always trying to diet and he feels awkward around Tom because of his size. I found it rather endearing. When Tom is attacked by a feral (rogue?) werewolf Cass takes it upon himself to keep Tom safe and is not all that freaked out that Tom is a werewolf. Tom, while smaller, the alpha in their mating which is always a nice change from the big guy always being the top. Th...more
I quite like jan irving's books and thoroughly enjoyed the contenders and wylde books but this book just seemed so unfinished to me. I liked the charector Cass very much especially the dieting insecurities (lets face it most of us have had weight issues of some sort at one time or other) but after quite a nice build up of the two protags relationship and the early attack by the rogue shifter the story ended when I thought it was just getting started! I thought a lot more could have be done with...more
I absolutely love this series. I read it out of order but I was still able to follow along. For me I personally liked the role reversal between Cass and Tom. Tom may be the stronger of the two because he is a shifter but it is the human Cass that is the alpha in the relationship.
This series is great. It's not real long books so you can read them in one sitting if you so choose. These stories may be short but do not lack in the entertainment department. There’s good conflict, a growing love stor...more

An okay read. Pacing was choppy, but I really liked Cass and Tom. I docked a star because of the stupid ending. To introduce a boy who has been beaten, raped and tortured and he just "faded away"...I wasn't even sure what that meant--like, sneaked off into the bushes faded(then couldn't their wolf noses track him?) or he literally blinked out of existence faded, which makes even less sense. And everyone is just okay with that? "I guess it's over." SERIOUSLY? I'm expected to turn the page and car...more

4 stars. I'm a fan of Jan Irving's writing (especially those hot sex scenes!), and this book was no exception. Great characters (I loved the shy Cass! Too cute how he was worried about his diet!) and interesting plot. (wonder if the rogue shifter will show up in a future book? I'd love to know his story)
3.5 stars - story was good and sweet, but there were lots of editing problems
4.5 Star read for me...definitely my favorite of the series so far! I loved Cass and his insecurities and how perfect he and Tom were for each other. Hot read, very enjoyable!
Cass is so sweet. I just wanted to hug him.

I dunno why I keep reading this series. It's mediocre at best but every blurb keeps me coming back for more *sigh*

This story was so sweet and hot at the same time, I loved it! ^.^
Yum yum, Cass!
I look forward to read more from this author. Ah, I've apparently already bought The Viking In My Bed :D
