Worst Titanic book I ever read: the very little plot that there was, had superstitions and rude underhanded behaviours and was only about the boat. And despite the author's assurance of research of history...there was very little of interest to be had in this book. :P Besides that, I'm not sure if the storyteller took poetic licence with the actual historical characters in the book but it made me hate them entirely. Captain Smith was an idiot and Mrs. Adair was made at least in this story to be...more

I thought this book was a really informative, emotional, and fun book. This book played with my emotions a lot one time it left me sad, happy, worried, scared, it's like each chapter has i's own mood. In this book the protagonist is Barry and he's in love with Pegeen, and Mr. Scollins
(Pegeen's father)forbid Pegeen and Barry to be together, simply because Pegeen is from the upper class on the ship and Barry is from the lower class this made me really mad and frustrated when I read that because...more

The 15 year old Irish protagonist comes from a well to do family, sailing to a promising future. He and his grandfather, however, were responsible for a young hooligan and his brother from a poor family having to leave Ireland to go America on the same ship against their will. The allure and attraction of the hooligan’s beautiful Irish sister adds a Romeo and Juliet twist to the plot. Lots of action, including the sinking of the Titanic, make this historical novel easy and fun to read, with posi...more

SOS Titanic is an excellent historical resource. Bunting did a lot of research about what the Titanic looked like, who was on board, and exactly how and why it sank. It would be great social studies or research project resource.

The book follows the story of fifteen year old, first class passenger Barry and his developing relationship with steerage passenger and developing love interest Pegeen. The two teens must face the social confines that affect them both while trying to survive the horrific...more

This book was very slow in the beginning but I will give it credit in the fact that I did finish the book and didn't put it down. I think that it might appeal more towards ages 10 to 12 or there abouts. It did start to pick up a little once the ship hit the iceberg. It also made me think of things about the Titanic that I hadn't really thought about before. I thought that they had always just put the life boats into the water before completely being filled because of speed but this book made me...more

over all the book was great historical fiction. for me personally it is not my kind of book. it had a great plot and story line and was over all an ok book but not my favorite i think other people should read this book because just because i don't like it dose not mean that other people should not read it. it is mainly about a kid from Ireland who is going to meet is parents in america and he gets into fights with some steerage passengers about half way through the trip the titanic hit an iceber...more

Well I think that this book was a pretty good at the start...but then it starts to loose your focus and then you just get bored of it. Mainly the plot is really bad because all the things happen to fast and the author doesn't explain what is happening very good. But all in all this book is probably for the beginners. I've read other titanic books and just as the author said, that it was not what truly happened in the titanic at the time, it was not really that interesting at all.

This book it is not the best book I have ever read but it keeps you interested into the story because it tells you how the story from "Titanic" really happen. Titanic was the biggest ship they have ever made before. This story takes place in New York City. The sinking from Titanic caused the deaths of 1,502 people. I recommend this book to the people that like to search information.

Eve Bunting did well with her research of the sinking of the Titanic. The story was pretty engaging and had some food character development. It was interesting to read about the perspective of the 3rd class passengers and her implications that they were taught to follow the "class rules" thus trapping themselves in the lowest deck.

Fifteen-year-old Barry O'Neil is traveling from Ireland to America on the maiden voyage of the Titanic. Barry is accompanied by an adult chaperon, Mr. Scollins, who has a very weak stomach for sea traveling, which allows Barry some freedom to explore the ship where he meets many interesting people. Two other young people from Barry’s small Irish village, brother and sister Frank and Peegan Flynn, have also boarded the Titanic, although they are not as privileged of passengers as Barry. Frank and...more

Interesting, fairly well-told first person story of a teenager traveling on the Titanic's ill-fated voyage. Fairly engaging story, I appreciated the eye-opening view into the differences in castes, including how the lower class is "trained to obey" the upper class to the point that many on the lower decks allowed themselves to be trapped by a barely locked door and a single guard even on a sinking ship!

For an author who usually does sweet picture books, nice job!

I felt like I was really there on the ship as it was going down. Even though I already knew that the ship is going to sink and lots of people will die I found it hard to put down because I wanted to know if Barry ever found his friends in time. This is a good book, I think.

This book is incredible! The characters are so realistic, you want to scream at the book for their behavior. I don't recommend the book if you have a sensitive stomach though. There is a lot of description on the dead bodies at the end.

I love to learn about the Titanic and its sister ships. I think it's interesting. I also like to read history books. SOS Titanic was a great book if you're into those kinds of things. I wasn't the best book ever, but it was still good.

I loved this book, granted I'm a huge fan of Titanic. However, I think students will like this story. It is written well. I got it from the IUS Library.

One of my favorite books growing up. The only book I've probably read more times is Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.

What can I say, another adventurous Titanic story, this one chronicles Barry O’Neill's journey on the ill-fated ship.
