I’m a big fan of Nicci French. (For those of you who don’t know- Nicci French is actually the married couple Nicci Gerrard and Sean French.)
I first discovered them with the book Killing Me Softly, which I absolutely loved. Since then I have read several more of their books, plus two others written by Nicci Gerrard on her own. Well I was a tad surprised with this book. I read Losing You by Nicci French previously and enjoyed it immensely but this was a totally different reading experience.
The beginning starts off well its very fast-moving and exciting but then as the main character Holly slowly starts to go insane the book gets a little harder to read. I have been a fan of Nicci French for some time and overall this book maintained the authors high standards.
This book gives a very good insight into what its like to lead a crazy lifestyle, in many different terms of the word and the impacts that those around you can have upon daily or regular events.
I will openly admit that as someone who is having difficult times right now, particularly with those close to me and professionally, I could empathise almost with some of Holly's struggles...more

Book club selection. It's not that it wasn't good, but it just wasn't my thing. Holly is one of those massively energetic life & soul of the party kind of people and appears to be burning the candle at both ends. She has a company with her best friend Meg, who's far more sensible and down to earth and ends up being the one who sorts the mess. Initially, I found Holly a very unappealing character. I wasted hours of my life reading this book. I feel as though the author could have thickened out the story a bit. It was my first Nicci French read and I wish I could get those hours back! Horrible I tell you! It was all plot after plot no resolution or too quick a resolution. If this was French's debut I would be more understanding but apparently it's the fourth book or something so there really is no excuse for such pathetic writing. I'm sorry to be so harsh but I really hated it.

Holly Krauss lives a crazy life and her world gets ever crazier. I liked the idea of the two different viewpoints, firstly from Holly's view up to the point where she is unable to express a view, then switching over to her best friend's viewpoint for the balance of the book.
The slow build ending is excellent - definitely a thriller.
I wouldn't want to give too much away but overall its excellent, and a clever plot, well written.

Nicci French is/are such skilful writers, it's a pleasure to read their books. I just find it hard to write about a dual authors. Grammatically, I mean.
Anyway, this was gripping, fluent, with the usual beautiful descriptive writing and breakneck plot. Quite an interesting structure, too, with two different narrators. A couple of improbable plot threads was all that stopped me rating it a five.

I had a hard time rating this one. If we had the option for half stars, I would have put this at 3.5. I had a really hard time getting into the book, and really the first 200 pages, I just kept thinking, that maybe I shouldn't bother finishing the book. I'm glad I did, though, because I was not expecting the what happened towards the end, and I thought it was a great twist. I just wish it hadn't taken quite so long to get there.
This novel was different to other Nikki French books I've read so far but I enjoyed it just as much, if not more. The story gives the reader some insight into what a person suffering from depression/bipolar disorder might go through and how tough life is for them, their relatives and friends. True to Nikki French's style, there is a shocking twist near the end.
Really disappointing! I've read others by her and enjoyed them, but this is not the thriller the title promises. In fact, it could be summed up as "Woman succumbs to bipolar disorder as her life spirals out of control: her best friend steps in to clean things up, support her and unmask the ill woman's husband as a creep." No suspense here.
this is the second Nicci French book I've read. The book starts with Holly as she slowly rips her life apart, making increasingly frightening choices as the train wreck of her life unfolds. She isn't however unsympathetic character. As with the other book I read "until it over", the story changes narrator from Holly to her best friend Meg, Meg is level headed and moves slowly and methodically helping Holly to put her life back together. I've read a lot of French's books and enjoyed most of them, esp. Killing Me Softly. This too is now one of my faves of hers. Wow! Such suspense, truly a good read.
An interesting book. The slow, modulated march of its writing is extremely well done, pulling the reader along and building reluctance to put it down to attend to real life. Such mastery makes the thin plot and surprise ending a tad disappointing.

Novel about a, probably bipolar, young woman who goes through a psychological collapse and how her best friend helps. There are relationship complications as well as the lead character's risky erratic behavior.
I thought it was a mystery, but it was a story about a manic-depressive and what happened to the lives she touched. Her behavior, before treatment, was appalling. Easy to see why her husband was tired of her.
Harder to relate to this main character but it was still good. Although I feel as though the author missed a villain, although she probably just showed more restraint than I would have.
This was my first read by Nicci French. I thought it was a very quick and easy read. It was very eye-catching.

Holly is trying to hold it all together, but slowly losing control. Her freinds think she is becomming paranoid...but that does not mean someone is not out to get her.
A very good read for the wintertime. Wonderfully written... it really engaged me and I lived through the story with the character.
Another very well constructed book from Nicci French. Well laid oiut and an excellent storyline. Bring on another!

Not really my kind of book.
This book is about Holly Kraus who seems to live her life on the edge. But I felt the descriptions of what is going on with her mentally, emotionally and physically to be lacking. Although it made me feel frantic like Holly is suppose to feel because it never let me get to involved and then moved on to the next scene. I have felt all the books I have read by the author have left me feeling like I am missing huge chunks of the story and characters.
How intense! Couldn't put it down and desperately wanted to save her...very close to home.

Excellent, fast paced book depicting the spiralling out of control of Holly...dark forces are at work, is it just that Holly is a danger to herself or is there someone else plotting against her.....
This book grips you from the start, it's quite horrifying and dark, leaves you guessing and then gasping at the truth. Absolutely loved it!
