Overall Review:
Buffalo Gal was one of my favorite books when I was young. So when I recently discovered it on my bookshelf, I had to see if it was as good as I remembered. Happily, I wasn't disappointed!
Set in 1904, this delightful adventure opens with fifteen-year-old Amanda bemoaning how her summer has begun. She's stuck with her mother in the wild Texas frontier looking for some buffalo! Author Bill Wallace creates a strong female lead, a teenager who...more

gosh where to start, this book was in my school library and im a literal reading bug, my librarian (although shes quite found of me i think) used to have to restrict me for reading during exam times on the account of my parents and teacher they used to say "it's agreat hobby shania but u hav to draw the line SOMEwhere". this book however just deepened my love for reading i read it when i was 12 the first time and read it 3 times over consecutively so much so that my librarian thought id lost it...more
Loved this book when I was growing up! I think I got it at one of those Scholastic book fairs and just read it over and over. Part of the appeal was the main character had the same name as me. It was a light, funny, historical romance for young adults.
Amanda, A spoiled, teenage girl goes on a trip to Texas with her mother to help save a herd of buffalo. Along the way she encounters a half Indian boy named David. He is around her age and thinks she's pretty much a waste of space and should just go...more

Gosh I love this site. I read this eons ago, over, and over, and over again. It is Great!!! Its a ligth romance with tons of adventure and nice look into life years ago. Young girls will definitely appreciate it. Its acceptable while still giving that amazing high that nice romances give only for a young audience. Very light and young historical romance and adventure.
One of my favorite books from childhood, in fact just read it the other day and still loved it, so a favorite of adulthood also!

I absolutely adored this book when I was 12!! My copy is so dog eared and folded back, from years of rereading. I loved Amanda and how she totally showed up David when he thought she couldn't do anything. My twelve year old self wanted so badly to be as cool as Amanda. Plus to have her adventures and a sweet guy to come and save her when she truly needed it. I am blinded by years of rereading this when I was younger, to not see anything wrong with this book. Its a fun, light read. I recommend!
I got this book for free at a book fair, and I am heartbroken that I can't find it now, because I read it to TATTERS. I think this was one of few Wallace books to have a female main character - or at least one I could relate to.
I remember loving the historical fiction aspect, and the girly girl to tomboy transition. Actually, now that I think about it, this reads a lot like Avi's Charlotte Doyle...

My favorite book as a teen. I've read this book over a dozen times...even in my college years I enjoy it! Historical fiction, set in Texas, with the young spunky girl having the adventure of her life and then falling for the guy she can't stand. All the ingredients of a classic and clean romantic epic! *sigh*!! This one still makes me smile! :)
This was such a funny book. Even though it's very western, I thought Bill Wallace's way of telling her story was unique. Ha, she wore jeans for the first time and forgot her toothbrush and her mouth hurt from smiling...great. She almost beat David Talltree and her mother really was listening.
