This was my second book by Erin McCArthy and I was looking forward to a great fun read,I like the way EM writes and the banter that goes on between her characters.
In this story we meet Jack (Jonathan) and Jamie, who meet up not by coincdence but because Jack is trailing Jamie to find out if she's the one playing the stock market with her employers money, he also just happens to Jamies housemates brother. Jamie doesn't know Jack from Adam when she bumps into him on the subway, but th...more

4 so-so stars for this one. The book centers on the idea of destiny and how you have one soul mate so to speak. As the story unfolds you can actually believe the whole destiny concept but there’s an unbelievable sub-story with the heroine’s father that I found annoying. It’s also supposed to be really funny but there are no laugh out loud scenes and at best you get a small smile every so often, sometimes it’s just overdone.

It was a really cute book, but it just seemed to be lacking in some places. I really had trouble seeing why Jamie and Jack couldn't be together, her reasoning was really off and I was expecting something a little more interesting to happen with the company she worked for.
This is one of those books where I felt each cliche eat at my soul.
The tale begins with a cross-dressing psychic telling a group of four women living in NYC (drinking martinis) about their destinies. Our heroine, a hippy-dippy busty country gal, who relocated to the big city and became a social worker due to her big time daddy abandonment issues, naturally believes the psychic's advice and meets, sexes (and eventually luurves, natch) a secret-millionaire hunk with a heart o'gold. ...more

One word that could describe this book is... HOT!
This is definitely not for the "young adult" category, with intimate scenes vividly described. It's not profound or bedecked with surprising twists and turns, however it was quite enjoyable and definitely puts it under guilty pleasure!
A dark chocolate of contemporary novels if I may say so myself.

Jamie Peters, on an outing with her roommates one day, makes the mistake of having her fortune told. The psychic predicts she will meet the man of her dreams in an accident involving food and a moving vehicle. Torn between wanting to scoff at the prediction and wondering if the psychic could possibly be right, Jamie continues on with her daily life - albeit with an eye open for a tall, handsome stranger carrying food. Months later, as she steps into a subway car, she collides with Jack Davidson,...more

This book was not what I expected. The first chapter got the book off to a good start, but once the characters met, I felt the storyline fell to the wayside. The book focused too much on the sexual relationship between the two main characters, going on for pages and even chapters at a time.
The illegal activity going on at Jamie's charity organization is what really pushed the two characters together and had the makings of a great story. However, it was solved very early on and kille...more

I was not entertained.
I liked Jack, and I felt that he had an ok reason to lie. I did not like Jamie. She was too inflexible, unforgiving, impractical, illogical. I had no reason to admire or like her. The way he fell for her was unrealistic. There were no interesting conversations. Not once did I laugh out loud. Nothing surprised me or delighted me.

This book was awesome!!! This is the second non-paranormal romance book I've read an it was great!!
You have two people from different sides of the tracks find each other and boom goes the dynamite!!!
This book is hilarious, especially Jack the things that he says or does is crazy!! And then you got Jaimie she is so naive you just want to scream at her and tell her to stop being so stupid!!! The love scenes were amazing and intense (I'm talking chapters of sex!!). The...more

I'm seriously becoming an Erin McCarthy fan girl. I haven't read anything of hers yet that was bad.
Actually 4 1/2 ...i would be tempted to throw in a 5 star only because i really think a book i love deserves the 5 stars...BUT i must admit that at the end i didnt really understand Beckwith's prediction....other than that YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! OMG Erin, you have got to be one of the most talented writers ever to be born and if i were you, i would have moved to a different publishing company LONG TIME AGO....to me, Erin McCarthy needs to be writting at least 3 or 4 books per year instead...more
I am pretty sure I felt brain cells dying as I read this. Luckily, since it was such a short and painfully easy read, I might have salvaged some. But, just barely.
Once in a while I can go for some decent chick-lit. But this, with its stereotypical characters (Plucky Midwestern girl-next-door meets the city! Cantankerous old man! Snide teenager! Snobby WASP mother! Cute, preppy, Upper East Side catch! Gaggle of faceless city friends ala Sex in the City!) and completely preposterous plot...more

No i don't know Jack, and i never ever want to, ever! What a DULL catastrophe this turned out to be. I was so excited when i read the synopsis, 'what a fresh approach to a romance novel,' i thought, wrong! i should have given up after reading the foolery that is Beckwit in the prologue and all that psychic love nonsense. What a waste of time, half the plot was wrapped up within a couple chapters, turning out to be inconsequential and oh so weak, leaving an unbelievable almost 25 consecutive pag...more

A few months ago, I read a novella by Erin McCarthy that I absolutely loved, and during that same time frame, many of my online friends had been raving about her recently released Fast Track series. I had also found the first book of the NY Girlfriends series, The Pregnancy Test to be a pretty good read even though it didn't earn keeper status from me, so when I picked up You Don't Know Jack, I was expecting something equally good if not outstanding. I admit I liked The Pregnancy Test better. I thought that book had more of a plot in it than this one did. However, You Don't Know Jack was still a good book to read and I enjoyed getting another look at these four friends (Mandy, Jamie, Allison & Caroline). Jack's grandfather was hilarious and had me laughing out loud. My faults with this book is that I felt it was a bit rushed. The story of the book takes place over a two week time period. I don't care about the falling in love and p...more
For chick lit, this book just didn't get me where I wanted it to. I wasn't thrilled by the chemistry between Jack and Jamie and I felt like the "subplots" could have been better developed or more interesting. While I admit I may simply be expecting too much from my chick lit, there are better books out there. It wasn't terrible for a first book read for the summer, but I don't know that I will seek more of McCarthy's books out for my fluff reading.
Okay. First off, this is a good book. I think it is even better than the first one because of all the other wonderful characters especially Beckwith, Pops and Finn and I even thought of giving it four stars. But I just gave it three stars because of the unnecessary intimate scenes and the writing is not really impressive. It has the same flow and basic plot as the first book which makes it almost boring except the additional characters. Unlike The Pregnancy Test, You Don't Know Jack have better ...more
Yech. This was just an excuse to chain-write excessive bedroom scenes, tying it all together with the sad-sack overused trope of destined soulmates at first sight, blah blah. The writing itself isn't as bad as most of the romance novels I've read, but still. I'm tired of reading about gorgeous people hooking up and declaring undying love after a day of nonstop bedroom antics.

One of my favourite things about this story was the Psychic. He's flamboyant and enigmatic and amusing.
Jack and Jamie are a great couple. I love the chemistry between them from the very first moment they met - involving the moving accident and a bag of takeaway.
It's predictable in terms of story but the way it enfolds is adorable and entertaining.

Meh, it was ok. I found all the humor to be a bit forced and unrealistic. Frankly, it got on my nerves. Maybe it was just my mood, but I didn't think it was that funny. So, this is the third book in a row that has been a bit of a disappointment for me. It's really a drag because the first two of her racing books were soooo good, I thought for sure I had me another consistently great author. Bummer.
I finished this book a long time ago, but I am updating my reviews as I have time.
Ok. I gave it 4 stars cause I want Jack; so sue me! Yes, it's not her best writing, but my goodness...the sex scenes are so darn hot you just gotta start it out with a 3 on that principle alone. The sub story with her dad was kinda annoying, but it added some dimension to the characters. Overall, it was a good read, not great, but I still wouldn't mind bumping into Jack on a subway...before I met my DH,...more

Ammmaaazzzzinnnngg!! God this is such a cute story!! I love love love JACK! He's so hot, loving and sweet!! I love how he doesn't give up until he gets Jamie! They are super cute together not to mention their relationship makes your heart melt!! Makes me want my own JACK! :0) I highly recommend this book to all your romantics out there!! 5 stars!!
The plot summary made it sound like there was quite a bit of deception, espionage, and suspense in this book. In actuality, these elements are abandoned in the first couple chapters and the rest of the book consists of extended sex scenes strung together with some tenuous bits of weak dialogue.
This is pure chick lit. No doubt about it. And it certainly would not top the list of “good, clean reads.” But it’s good. The story is believable and the characters aren’t one -dimensional at all. If you’re into these kinds of books, this one’s pretty good.
this was a cute story. typical chick lit that was both sexy and amusing. i also liked how the leading woman wasn't some skinny blue eyed blonde (not that theres anything wrong with that type) but she was a well endowed woman who was characterized as being nice loving and trusting but she wasn't stupid and she was a strong woman.
This one is another fun light funny read. Jack was super funny, the bumbling guy who seemed to take in strays left and right. If you are looking for a light fun read this is a good one, but one where you will forget it when it is done.
It was ok but a little long and draged at the end, other then that the stiry was good but i would have liked some things done different like how she talks to her dad at last was not given enought importance
