This novella was great, but I am a little disappointed in Secret. Is she ever going to give Lucas some love? Secret has a problem looming on the horizon and it all centers around her love life. Lucas, Desmond and Holden. Lucky girl, lol. This is set around Christmas time. Lucas is out of town and Secret can no longer hunt rogue vampires. Secret Santa is book 2.5 in the Secret McQueen series and is just another excellent and entertaining reading experience that is the continuing story of Secret McQueen bounty Hunter/Vampire Killer/assassin/etc . It was as good as all the rest have been. Secret has now been living with Desmond one of the two werewolves she is soul mated with for 6 months, she also still has Lucas as her other werewolf boyfriend and then there is the vampire Holden whom she has shared a kiss and a strange sex dream with. As Secret is now a tribunal leader and no longer a bounty hunter she is getting bored with the whole no hunting thing that has been imposed on her so when her cop friend Mercedes asks Secret to help out on a case she jumps at the chance. Teenagers are going missing whilst other teenagers are being killed and their body parts being left around the city but is the killer human or other it is up to Secret to find and stop the killer before he strikes again, this time closer to home.

I thoroughly enjoyed this short story, Ms Dean’s books just keep getting better and the more I read about Secret the more I like her. This book is a light fun Urban Fantasy read. It was a great story that is well paced that kept my attention throughout. Holden was featured more in this book with Secret, Desmond was there too and we met more of his family. Lucas didn’t make an appearance at all but that was fine by me as Desmond and Holden are my favourite characters. The plot kept me guessing until the end and there were some pretty gruesome scenes along the way that built the tension. It was great to have a setting at Christmas and it made me want to drink some sherry and eat mince pies. We were not left with a cliffhanger this time but Holden did make Secret promise him something that has me chomping at the bit for the next book. Another great read from Ms Dean and I would like to give this book 4 and a half stars. I received this as an ARC from the author for an honest review however Secret Santa is expected out in November 2011.

Sigh i love this series. I think Sierra Dean tries to torture me with these novella's lol. I love em but they are never long enough. She gives you some great story then leaves you hanging. If you are a fan of the Secret McQueen series and are jonesing for your next fix, you are going to love this novella. It's got a little bit of everything in it. Secret once again has to figure out what's going on in New York and this time she's got Holden along to help her. Now if you don't know this by now, I love Holden. Now if you don't know this by now, I love Holden. Love, love, love him and I was so happy to read so much about him in this story. He and secret have this underlining tension that has spanned throughout the previous books and knows that it's there, but can't really act on it. Secret is half vamp/half were and only recently tapped into her were side with the help of Desmond and Lucas from the previous books in the series. She is currently involved with both of them who are both weres and Holden being a vamp of course is not happy with this. I think he's always been attracted to her and never acted on it and has finally admitted that he wants her. Now Secret's emotions are being pulled between 3 men that care deeply about her.

I also loved the gory parts of the book as Secret has to figure out who is murdering people and stuffing body parts into Christmas stockings. I found myself saying "ewww" a lot and while this type of subject in a book is not my favorite, it was entertaining in this book. LOL I just couldn't wait for Secret to get to the bottom of things so we could see what was really going on. This is where Sierra Dean's writing really excels because she makes her stories so entertaining! This series has quickly become one of the ones that I look forward to reading. The author's words and storyline flow from chapter to chapter and it just captures you to the point where you don't want to stop reading for anything! I've had this experience from the 1st time I read one of Sierra's books and truly think it will be the same every time. I love her "voice" and the characters each bring something different to the series which makes you want more even after you read the very last word on the page.

If you are looking for a new, fresh, UF/PNR series to get into, you will not be disappointed with Secret McQueen. It's just as unique as what Secret is and you'll find yourself wanting to read more of her. What are you waiting for, get started! (less)

As Secret and Desmond prepare to celebrate the holiday with his family, her friend Mercedes asks for her PI skills on a gruesome case with some paranormal overtones. Under strict Council orders for her safety – and needing his help anyway – Secret asks Holden to join her on the baffling hunt. As Christmas day nears, they get closer to finding the killer – but before they do, the killer finds someone close to Secret.

This is, for the most part, a much lighter book than the others in the Secret McQueen series and I don’t think you need to read the books that came before it to enjoy this one. The cast of characters that appears is smaller and the people that aren’t in it aren’t mentioned much so you won’t get the feeling that you’re missing some vital information.

Wherever there’s Desmond, the story is mostly the lighter, fluffier side of Secret. They’re completely living as a couple now and he’s pretty much gone all Martha Stewart on her. I honestly haven’t been a fan of his – I think he’s a little too beta for the utterly alpha Secret – but he’s kind of cute here. I even…liked him, although I might deny I wrote that if you ask me again in a few months. Not much is mentioned about Secret's dual bond with Desmond and Lucas and I was glad.

Secret on the case is very much business as usual, grouchy and smart-mouthed. I wondered a lot about whether or not her former boss, now fellow Vampire Council member Sig would really let her run around putting herself in danger – he usually seems to know every breath she takes and lately has been a little obsessed with her personal safety. The plot with the killer was a little hard to follow at the end – simpler may have been better, even at the risk of removing some paranormal folklore.

Holden continues to push himself into Secret’s relationships, which makes me glad, since I just can’t help cheering him on after his hot elevator scene with her in The Secret Guide to Dating Monsters. If there's relationship angst here, he's it, but I can always be counted on to enjoy a little Holden angst.

I continue to be a big fan of the series and enjoy seeing the evolution of Secret. Despite her getting all gooey with Desmond and having a few steamy scenes, she’s kept her fighting edge and I like the tight chemistry she still has with Holden (my personal feelings for his character aside, honest). This was a nice light change from the darker full books, even if there still was a bloody killer running amok – this has it all from dinner with the parents to a knife fight to the death. If you haven’t read the other books in the series, this could easily be a good place to dip your toe in.

Secret Santa is a great Novella in the Secret McQueen series by Sierra Dean. It's fast paced with mystery, action and a touch of naughty with some holiday cheer.

Secret is getting use to her new job title that she earned at the end of A Bloody Good Secret. Secret's work and personal life is never easy and with the events in Secret Santa we get to see that her future in the love department is not going to get any easier anytime soon!

Secret is trying to figure out what to get all her friends for Christmas. It’s the first year she has had to worry about buying for anyone else besides her grandma. But shopping ends up being the last thing on Secret’s mind once she gets pulled in to assist on a case of grizzly murders. Once Desmond’s sister goes missing, Secret fears that it is connected with her murders. With Holden at her side, Secret will search the city to try and find her before it’s too late.

I absolutely adore this series. I love that Secret is such a fun and snarky heroine. I love that despite her bad ass skills, she is still clumsy and unsure of herself. I absolutely loved the mystery plot surrounding this novella. It was action packed, gruesome and totally twisted. I liked the way Dean combined the plots with the killer and the missing children, especially Penny.

I have to say, I love Secret with Desmond. They are such fun together, and the sexy times as totally hot. The only thing that I am nervous about with this series is the love triangle aspect. Although there is no page time with her other werewolf boyfriend Lucas, there are so many love interests in Secret’s life, and I am not a fan of that uncertainty. Add in the fact that Secret made a promise to Holden that she is worried about keeping, I’m not seeing any resolution to her love life anytime soon.

Although this is listed as a Christmas novella, the Christmas moments are few and far between. I do wish we would have seen a bit more of Secret’s time with Demsond’s family, and their Christmas traditions, but I understand why the plot moved the way it did. I did love the fact that Secret was able to have her own little Christmas celebration with the new friends and family in her life though. It’s nice to see her have more people to rely on.

All in all this was another great addition to the Secret Series. The novella is action packed while trying to chase the killer, but there are also some really sweet and tender moments between Secret and Desmond that are setting up their relationship in a beautiful way. I just hope that Dean doesn’t drag on Secret’s love life for the remainder of the series.

I give Secret Santa a B-(less)

Secret McQueen has had an eventful year. She has gone from being an unattached low level bounty hunter to a high ranking vampire Tribunal leader with not one but two boyfriends and the possibility for more. Because of her new status, Secret has been taken off of active duty so when her best friend approaches her for help on a gruesome homicide case, Secret jumps at the chance to be useful again. There is a serial killer roaming the streets of New York and Secret must do everything in her power to find him; especially when the killer strikes to close to home.

Secret Santa is a small novella that takes place after book two-A Bloody Good Secret and before book three. Secret has had some upheaval in her life and is having some serious adjustment issues to living with her boyfriend Desmond, her feelings for Holden and Lucas, and not being a bounty hunter anymore. When she is alerted to a series of killings by her friend, Mercedes who claims they are of a paranormal bent, she agrees to help investigate. Teenagers are being snatched left and right are returned in pieces. Some confusion comes into play when Secret realizes she will be working with the luscious Detective Tyler Nowakowski. RAWR! While she may have more then enough men in her life, a part of her can’t deny the attraction is there but Tyler seems to have it out for Secret and it’s more then just being stood up. When Secret convinces Holden to help her (with some coercion on his part) they soon discover they aren’t the only monsters hunting New York’s nightlife.

Sierra Dean’s Secret McQueen series is an enjoyable and addictive addition to the Urban Fantasy genre. From our heroine’s name; Secret McQueen, to her job(s) and ever increasing intricate relationships, we follow this feisty and fearless heroine through the trials and tribulations that make up her life. Well written with a fast, steady pacing that engages and holds your attention to the end. Perfectly balanced with humor and suspense; it’s the characters in here that make this story so engaging.

Though I enjoyed the action filled mystery, the romance arena still feels off to me. I have always felt her relationships happened way to fast and nothing is ever never fully explored or allowed to develop at a reasonable pace. Additional romantic entanglements are being slowly introduced that confuse Secret more-therefore causing me to not take her relationship with anyone seriously. I also feel she allows to much leeway when it comes to Lucas and Desmond-blaming it on the bond. I also wish we had seen more of Desmond and his brother at the end. I found it odd he was not part of the ending and she choose not to confide in him, which further solidifies my feelings towards their relationship.

All in all Secret McQueen keeps us on our toes as always and I find myself becoming heavily invested in her future adventures. I look forward to reading more about her and her adventures in the future.

The full-length books in this series have been on my wishlist for some time now and after finishing Secret Santa I remember why! I read Sierra Dean’s other novella, The Secret Guide to Dating Monsters, a few months back and loved it. This second short story is equally as awesome (and festive!). I’m still reeling from how much content was skillfully crammed into so few pages. It honestly felt like a full-length book. I don’t know how Sierra does it!

In Secret Santa, Secret is now somewhat domesticated since living with Desmond. Their relationship is still going strong and I hope it stays that way! As a dedicated Desmond fan, I love their relationship. But since their are two other men jockeying for Secret's heart, I know the relationship bliss won't last long (drat!). Ever since invading Secret’s dreams and having a weird existential threesome with her and Desmond, their relationship has changed. There is now an undercurrent of attraction that Secret is trying to ignore but Holden won’t let her. Secret truly loves Desmond and is already worried about how she is going to handle her relationship with both Desmond and Lucas since as part werewolf; she is soul-bonded to both of them. Add Holden into the mix and it is more men than she can handle. The smart thing for Secret would be to keep her distance from Holden but she needs him to help her solve these murders and locate the missing teams. It really hits close to home when Desmond’s sister, Penny, ends up missing on Christmas Eve. Secret is even more determined than ever to find who is behind this even if it means making a deal with the devil himself, Holden, in order to do so.

Secret Santa is a great addition to the series. With each installment, it keeps getting better. I love how Secret is opening herself up to people and finally has a make-shift family to shop for on Christmas. It will be interesting to see how this love quadrangle will pan out. I am Team Desmond all the way. I love the taste of limes. Yum!

Secret is still kick-ass. She finally gets the action that she’s been seeking since joining the Tribunal. Secret Santa is gory, violent and the killer is no holds barred. There is a level of ick due to the nature of the crimes and the gore. Secret Santa is not your ordinary Christmas story. It is a fast-paced fun yet gory thrill ride that will have you wanting more after it ends.

This short novella was just as wonderful as the others in the series. I loved the story line and relished the dark terror of the "monster" in this book. Still some wonderful sexy scenes (I'm SO Team Desmond now) and a promise given to discover what is between Secret and Holden.

How many guys can one woman handle anyway?! Lucky bitch or what? Can't wait to find out!

Have I mentioned how much I love this series? I LOVE THIS SERIES! The characters are great, the smut is plentiful, what more could I ask for? A Novella length (i.e. longer than a short story, not as long as a full novel) Secret story set at Christmas time. In this one, Secret has to find out who--or what--is causing a number of particually nasty deaths around NYC.

A story about an ass-kicking paranormal PI, Secret McQueen. This is story 2.5 in a series, which I picked up for free at ARe.
Whilst it is readable as a standalone, i did feel a bit confused at the start with trying to figure out who was who and what (Secret seemed to have 3 boyfriend at times but then only 1) and despite an explanation at the start of the story I struggled with that through the book.

This one was really good. I like Sierra Dean's novellas! She knows how to write them, probably even better than some of my actual favorite authors!

4 Stars. Short but good story. Gives you a little bigger view of the characters. No complains other then the price but a fan of the series won't really mind. Length vs price compared to the full books is a bit of a rip off.

A holiday novella where Secret gets to meet Des' parents for the first time, scaaary! ;)

Some cute time between her and Des (love ya Des!). Some tension between her and Holden.

And of course the hunt for a really creepy serial killer who leaves bodyparts as a gift. Just your typical paranormal NY xmas.
