Horrible book. Not even biblical!!!
We received this book as a wedding present some time ago. I read it during the first few months of our marriage and was completely appalled by its contents.
Before posting a review, I wanted to read it ALL THE WAY THROUGH to be sure that Debi Pearl's propensity to MISINTERPRET Scripture was not just an occasional error, and I found that, from cover to cover, her MISUSE and ABUSE of Scripture was ubiquitous throughout. According to her words, there is a ...more

I feel Ms. Pearl has great insight into what is lacking in today's marriages. Many "healthy" Christian women have been taught a co-submission doctrine. The problem with co-submission, is it is inconsistent with the analogy scripture sets up of marriage being a picture of Christ and the church. Christ is not co-submissive to us. Additionally, many Christian women interpret co-submission to mean that when in disagreement, they have a right to not 'give in' to their husband's thought pro...more

What I liked most about this book was that it opened my eyes that there was more to my part of the marriage than just submission. Being a submissive wife is only one part of the WHOLE of being a help meet to my husband.
There are a lot of really good helpful bits of advice in the book that one really needs to be open to, and prayerful about, in order to benefit from it. Whenever you trust God and allow HIM to change your husband, instead of trying to do it yourself, God will change your husba...more

I'm hesitant to recommend this book, although there's a lot of great stuff in it. My friend Aimee let me borrow it, but she gave me the warning that I needed to be discerning when I read it. She was right. There are many great principles to take from this book if you're able to get past the rest of it. To say that the author is old-fashioned doesn't quite do it justice. Some of her remarks about the status of women were almost offensive - she seemed to portray the idea that women weren't capable...more

I have almost finished with this book. This book is obviously is very conservitive and will probably offend a lot of women. The author didn't write the book to gain approval (through her comments and tone) but to relay truth and experience she has found in scripture and in marriage. I would recommend this book as required reading for every married woman- even if she chucks it across the room because it doesn't fit in with her own feministic ideals.

I was not impressed with this book. Actually, I was given this book by a friend, who was earnestly seeking to encourage me in my pursuit of "housewifing". I found the author to be brash and critical of women in general. Believing this author's heart to truly please God in all she does, I continued to read it objectively. However, page after page, I found myself riddled with guilt for not doing the things I "should" be doing. Also, the author promotes vaccine-free childre...more

After a lifetime of disappointment and failures in relationships with men, I was convicted to look at myself and see what God wants me to change. It took me a while to get the courage to read this book, however I was determined to make a change to save my marriage. I knew the problem had to do with me stepping into the man's role when I thought he was failing and then being proud about it.
What I learned from this book is that it all boils down to simple obedience to God. You can nitpick Debi P...more

VERY hard to read. She is harsh. But in my opinion, harsh in a positive and necessary way. Our culture of "my rights" and "I deserve" dulls us to our need to continually surrender having our way and getting our needs met first. Motherhood has reminded me more than ever how selfish I am, and how I need to KNOCK IT OFF. Debi Pearl has reminded me that just as I need to be selfless towards my helpless children, putting their needs above my own, so must I do the same for my ...more

This was a good book. The author is very hard on the women. Sometimes to hard. I think she lives in la-la land. She is way over the top on some things. But other things she hits it right on the head.
The basics are covered, respect, honor and obey your husband. Take care of your home and family. Be wise with your time and money. But she does teach error when she says to put your husband's wishes ahead of all no matter what, and that God will understand. We know from the bible that God comes fi...more

All Women
This book is one that every woman needs to read. If you do not have biblical morals and are not the submissive wife that the Bible teaches us to be, you will be disappointed.
This book uses biblical scriptures as her guidlines of how women should be. I have learned so much from this book and read a chapter here and there all the time. I am always trying to improve my relationship with my husband and this book just give more examples and stories of how Godly women should be with their husbands....more

This is the first religious book about being a wife that was not horribly skewed in one way or another. My mother sent this to me, as she says it helped her, and she is the kind of woman any man would be lucky to be married to.
This is a holistic look at marriage, not just a woman's role in it. It speaks not only to relationships and attitudes, but all the little questions in between. The Pearl family speaks with honesty, intimacy and fun.

This book promises much and I believe it delivers: the only timeless secret to having a happy, joy-filled, fulfilling marriage no matter who you're married to. As she unpacks the word of God, it is so obvious how clear the truths are in the scripture. It is only because our culture has blinded us and indoctrinated us with just the opposite beliefs that we haven't seen the truth in scripture before. Women everywhere are in desperate need of the liberating gospel truth that is expounded in this bo...more

Halfway through this book, I bought 6 copies to give away. This is stuff I've kinda suspected in the back of my mind, but always kept to myself because it wasn't something I thought others would agree with.... and now here it is in paperback! Best book on being a good wife. Hard to swallow in some sections, but I had to keep asking myself, "Well, if I was a man, would I want this kind of woman for a wife?" to which I would undeniably have to respond -- YES! Absolutely!

Although at first I was turned off by the title of this book, after reading it several times I was amazed at the applicability of the advice and teachings offered. I learned alot about the psychology of men. If one of my single friends was about to get married, I would give her this book along with Sex Secrets of Excorts. These are the 2 books I've refered back to more than any other on helping me understand my husband and make our marriage better.

My husband would write a better review for this book than I could! He got to experience the changes that the author demands of the reader. There were several times that I wanted to throw the book across the room, but I couldn't stop reading it. Once I reached the end, I had adjusted to her blunt writing style and started to grasp the big picture of what she was saying. This has been one of the most influential books I've read in my life.

Most of you have already heard my comments on this book. But it is by far the most influencial book I have ever read in regards to my God designed nature of being a woman. Very convicting and puts you back in God's word through and through. Very touching and ENCOURAGING. A MUST read!!!!
PS Definately not limited to married, just as powerful for singles and dating women.

Wow, this was CHALLENGING! Debi Pearl puts forth a blatantly honest chapter book, interpreting Scripture about what the wife is called to do/be in a marriage relationship.
Can seem "outdated" but a lot of what she says rings true, even if I didn't "want" it to.

This book has meant the world to me! I plan on reading it over and over again. Mrs. Pearl gives great insight on what God wants out of women as wives. She teaches you how to love the position that God has given you. It's definitely helped me to be a better wife, and I believe it could help any who is willing to be open and learn from the Bible.

It's been a good read for a new bride. I feel that some of our ideas are a little too conservative for me (never thought I'd hear myself saying that!) but I appreciate her honesty and concern for the well-being of her husband. I have learned from it. Gained new insight. However, I do find myself questioning some of her criticism of women.

A friend recently gave this book to me and at first I was a little judgemental and thought I wouldn't like it. But, wow it was so good and a great message for wives on how to love and understand their husbands. She has a few pretty conservative views that I might not agree with, but the overall message is what a lot of women need to hear!
