Joe Schwartz made me an instant fan with his first short story collection Joe's Black T-Shirt. The Games Men Play is even better. These stories are dark, gritty snapshots of people you might pass by at any given time. These aren't just characters on paper. This falls somewhere between a 3 star and 4 star read, for me. There are lots of great stories in this book. Most of the subject matter is dark and gritty. The emphasis is on the darker aspects of life in a big city. The characters are realistic and most of the stories are compulsive reads. It does seems more geared towards a male readership, I think. The raw talent is here, but it really is raw. The author either needs to get an editor or needs to listen to his editor.

Raw and real, this is a book of short stories you don't want to miss. The author seems to know the St. Louis streets, and the real world, like the back of his hand. An eye opening and entertaining read.

I loved this - Joe's an incredible author from mid-america that knows his town well and gets into your head with his dark tales about St. Louis.

A collection of stories by Joe Schwartz; some really good, some okay and some just yuck! Overall a pretty good read!
