The overly scientific, always respectable, and socially awkward Alexander Banks has just been informed his name resides on a betrothal agreement right above the name of the worst chit in all of England. With a loophole that allows him to marry another without consequence before the thirtieth anniversary of his birth, he has only four weeks to find another woman and make he...more

Alex Bank is a man obsessed with science but whom fate has decided to give him something else to focus on for a while. 1 month before his 30th birthday Alex is informed by his father that he must marry before his 30th birthday or he will be forced to marry Lady Olivia who is a vile creature to say the least.

Caroline is Olivia's cousin who has resigned herself to spinsterhood, where she can pursue her scientific studies all she wants. Of course it would be easier for Caroline if she was allowed...more

BRIEF SUMMARY

Alex is a scientist who isn’t popular with the ladies. He is told by his dying father that he is to be married to Olivia. Not only is Olivia not physically attractive but a nasty woman. Alex tells him of a loophole to the agreement; if he marries another before he turns 30 then the agreement is null and void. Alex must find another bride in a month but how? Make the search a science experiment!! Caroline is dubbed in society because of...more

I have read only one other book from Rose Gordon and I absolutely LOVED it so I wanted to see if it was a fluke or if she was just an all around awesome author. I have come to the conclusion that she is just an awesome writer.

In this the first in her Groom series, Alexander Banks was just informed by his dieing father that he has to marry in less then a month a bride of his choosing or marry the horrible Lady Olivia through a bridal contract made when they were infants. Alex is a scientist and...more

BRIEF SUMMARY
Alex loves science as he eats and breaths it. So, when his father informs him he is and has been betrothal to Lady Olivia since birth, he is not too happy. Lady Olivia is known for temper and Alex is not looking forward to being married to her. He is to be married in a matter of weeks, however, Alex’s father also informs him that there is a loophole that might not let him married Lady Olivia, and that loophole could be Caroline...more

If you enjoy your books in series and want the whole picture you will want to read the first three books in the Scandalous Sisters Series by Rose. You will meet Alex and Olivia in those books and understand better who they are and what they are like.

Book 1: Her Sudden Groom by Rose Gordon Groom Series
Edward Banks, now on his death bed, tell his eldest son Alex, about a betrothal agreement he made with his best friend when his daughter was born on the same day as Alex eight years later, Lady Oliv...more

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Ms. Gordon in exchange for my honest review. I'd like to extend my personal gratitude to Ms. Gordon for allowing me to read her book, but all thoughts and opinions are mine.

Now that that is out of the way. OH MY GOODNESS. I have added yet another author to my favorites list. I LOVE historical romance books thanks to Jude Deveraux and Ms. Gordon rates right up there with Ms. Deveraux as one of my favorite historical romance writers of all time.

First off the cover is perfect for this story! This story is a continuation of the Scandalous Sisters. Alex Banks is their cousin who we meet in the other books. We get to catch up with family from the first three books and meet some new friends that I think will be in the next books. The earlier books will give you a taste of Olivia as well, she is a piece of work! I think the combination of Alex and Caroline is refreshing and it works! I enjoyed watching them grow as a couple and overcome diff...more

While parts of this author's stories are not bad, there is a consistant lack of grasp of historical detail. Things like manner of address and the results of scandalous behavior are either done wrongly or played as if in modern day. The actions and behavior of the Lady Olivia character are appalling by today's standards. In regency times, that sort of behavior would have gotten her locked away in an asylum to rot. Women had precious little freedom in those days and no honor but that which was bet...more

This was a great book and for only .99. Also the author was donating all monies earned from this book during the month of July to MS research. That made this book a double bonus. Cheap good book, and my money going to a good cause.

Anyway, I didn't expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. I LOVED the little twist at the end involving the little girl and the nitrous oxide party.

This book made me laugh a lot. I loved how different the characters were from the normal historical romance novels. Th...more

I'd previously been introduced to Alex Banks when I read Gordon's Scandalous Sister's trilogy. Alex was this goofy guy in a tunnel of science. Even though he's focused on science 99.9% of the time he makes a perfect partner for Caroline, who is equally into science. Caroline's cousin Marcus sees how perfect the two would be and pushes them into each other’s company. Watching Alex attempt a courtship as a science experiment was surprisingly funny. I really enjoyed Alex and Caroline's well develop...more

Alex is adorkably endearing and Caroline a fierce inner strength that keeps the reader hooked. They are the nerdiest regency couple I've ever read, but it's absolutely precious. Alex wasn't the typical rake I'm used to reading about -in fact, he was the exact opposite- but he's such a good guy, no matter how awkward he seems. And he ended up being surprisingly attractive, so hey!

I must add that Rose Gordon is quite the author. I also love how she manages to work all her characters from her many...more

HER SUDDEN GROOM- featuring Alexander Banks and Caroline Sinclair.

Alexander Banks, is the son of a dying baron who, just learned approximately a month before his Thirtieth birthday, that he will be forced into an arrange marriage that his father and a very good friend had cooked up one drunken night.

Needless to say that when Alex found out about that,he was not happy, because the girl that Edward Banks, Baron Watson (Alex’s father) had betrothed him too turned out to be every man’s worse nightm...more

This book should have ended about half way through the book, and even then all the interesting parts of the book happened in the second half. With a title like Her Sudden Groom I don't want to know what the heck happens after they are married. All of the conflicts should have been resolved before the walk down the aisle not weeks afterwards. Geeeez. And for two purportedly super smart scientist types I can't believe how many over blown ridiculous oversights and random assumptions were made on bo...more

I'm a little speechless at how much I enjoyed this romance! (And trust me, 99% of romances I read are 1-2 stars). It's probably more of a 4.5 star but I'll be kind and give it all 5 due many outbursts of laughter while reading. That is a rarity, I tell ya!

The plot was very funny. The characters all so lovable (well even Olivia in her ghastly manner). The romance so utterly sweet!! Many sigh-worthy moments.

A good writer is one that makes you fall in love with such an awkward character (Alex) and...more

NOTE: READ THE SCANDOLOUS SISTER BOOKS FIRST (Intentions of the Earl, Liberty for Paul, and finally To Win his Wayward Wife) BEFORE YOU READ THESE!! They make more sense with the characters...
I loved reading about the nerdy Alex Banks in this story and his attempts to avoid the horrid and ugly Lady Olivia (she is TRULY a horrible person...though more like a THING like creature as the series continues). Throughout this story I began to realize that Alex's and Caroline's past are connected to one...more

This is what I thought at the beginning of the book: "All I can think of is that one woman from Corpse Bride saying "Oh the impropriety!" I'm not entirely sure when this is set, but the bedroom humor is rather out of character to the setting."

By the end of the book, I'm just confused. The characters are rather flat and dull. The bedroom humor was awkward, however funny at times, to read. And it left me as confused as Caroline some times. I just don't get why she went through so much trouble thro...more

Plot - A marriage contract for their children, signed between friends in the midst of a drunken stupor 30 years ago has now become a dreaded deal that the son will do anything to escape from. .the easiest choice is marrying the cousin of his intended .. He is lucky that this gal can turn him inside out with her green eyes and intelligent mind.

It was okay and i liked the story line.

Character- Caroline was annoying. There is innocence and there is dumb. She falls in the latter category.Alex is so s...more

Awesome book. So funny! Loved both leads. I don't usually go for the beta type heros, but I loved Alex. A geek with a heart and body..... Who could ask for more. Some heat, but not a lo. I usually like a little more, but the lack of sizzle helped this story. I wish I had read the sisters series first, I am going to start on them next.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Something about it reminded me of Julia Quinn, which is only a compliment as I adore her.
The only thing that put me off was the americanisms such as pants instead of trousers and saying math instead of Maths. British people just don't say that. I am hooked, however, and have already started Her Reluctant Groom!

Loved it. All the characters were very well written. I loved how Caroline doesn't overreact and hold silly grudges like a lot of the heroines in these novels. Definitely a keeper! Being a nerd myself, I also liked the fact that both parts of the couple were, as well. I felt like I understood them.

A spin off from the Scandalous Sisters series and just as delightful. Rose Gordon has a talent for new, unique romances to fit all the new characters. There wasn't as much of a scandal involved in this one, so it didn't have the same pulse racing affect the others had created.
Anita
I love books where the male lead is a smart awkward guy who just can't seem to express his feelings. This book had some of that in Alex- But don't leave out the smart, innocent, and selfless Caroline. The two were perfect for each other. Great read!

I really enjoyed reading this book. I didn't wanna put it down once i started it. The author is an wonderful job at making the characters come to life. I became an instant fan of the characters. Its a wonderful love story.

Maybe I've been reading too many of this genre again, but I just couldn't like anything about this one. Perhaps I should try taking a few weeks break from this type of rom (or stick to Lisa Kleypas).
Stacey
I liked the book, and the storyline was pretty good, but whoever edited the book got paid to not do their job. There were so many mistakes (grammar issues, misspellings, missing words, etc) that the storyline was all that kept me reading the book.
Melissa
This book was delightful. I really liked the hero in the story, Alex. He is a big science geek and is just so likable. The author writes with a lot of humor. A great read!
Sheila
Fun, but a little too Convenient Misunderstanding-y for me. (Although a Convenient Misunderstanding about a Convenient Misunderstanding is ambitiously meta!)
Melanie
quick read. not overly fond of the way the author wrote the unattractive (read: 238 lbs with frizzy red hair) intended fiance of the male lead.
Rachel (BAVR)
Decent writing for a self-pub, but the story and series bait didn't mesh well with my tastes. Scientifically minded nincompoop Alex courts and weds "secret scientist" Caroline so he doesn't have to marry her horrid cousin. Wacky hijinks ensue.

There's a brain-melting BIG MISUNDERSTANDING near the end of the story based almost entirely around Alex being insecure about his sexxorz powahz that entertained the hell out of me. I know. I usually hate big misunderstanding tropes, but there was just som...more
