This book started off really good for me. The first 150 or so pages were great, but as the book progressed I ended up getting annoyed with the heroine and finding something lacking in the relationship between Jason and Delilah. It wasn't that I got bored or anything, more that relationship stumbled while the rest of the storyline kept me reading.

Chasing Stanley is the sixth book in Deirdre Martin's light-hearted-romance Blades series about the fictional New York Blades hockey team...more

Delilah is a drug trainer who can't stand to see a dog that is abused or not properly trained, she is obsessed with dogs. Jason has recently been traded to the New York Blades; he moves into a great apartment and brings his dog with him. His dog is having problems and when he meets Delilah in the park, he believes his problems are solved. While Delilah trains his dog Jason keeps messing up. When Jason and Delilah start dating and Delilah makes a fool of herself and Jason at a party they think it...more

This is one that didn't get great reviews on GR, but I kind of liked it! Better than the third book in the series, for sure! Maybe Stanley - the adorable Newf made it for me! LOL! Anyway - I think this series is predictable and the recipe is the same for each book, but sometimes that's ok, right?
Poor Delilah is such a mess - and I really feel badly for her anxiety, which is clearly caused by her obnoxious parents. And Jason - oh Jason - I was really worried there for a bit! It was clear that he...more

I love Ms. Martin's New York Blades series. She writes some of the best in sports romances (with the exception of Susan Elizabeth Phillip's Chicago Stars series). "Chasing Stanley" is an enjoyable read but not quiet as good as some of the others in the series.

The book opens with the heroine, Delilah Gould, walking dogs (which she does for a living). She spots the hero, Jason Mitchell, fumbling around with his dog, Stanley, and struggling to control him. Delilah chastises Jason for his poor way o...more

I try really hard not to post really negative reviews. But I had to say something about this book. And I'm not really quite sure what to say about it. Except this. I really wanted to like this book. I really did. I loved Martin's first book. I liked her second book. I reluctantly liked The Penalty Box. But I don't know why I continue to read books about Jewish heroines. It's like I'm on a continuous quest to find a book that doesn't totally stereotype either the heroine or her family. Yet at the...more

I've enjoyed all of the previous hockey-centered romances that Ms. Martin has written, but this one simply doesn't come up to the mark. I agree with many of the one and two starred reviews on Amazon.com--the reader just doesn't buy that these two people are in love, or that they can ever have an HEA. And I agree also with the opinion that there was no real conflict in this book other than the two main characters. The main conflict was that they were so different and mostly unwilling to compromis...more

I do love a good series and this one keeps me coming back. Chasing Stanley is the story of Jason Mitchell, player for the New York Blades hockey team and Delilah Gould, dog trainer/walker.

Delilah's character was a little out there sometimes and hard for me to really like, but I enjoyed getting to know Jason and his twin brother Eric. I know one of the later books in the series is about Eric so I'm looking forward to that one.

My favorite part about a series is the chance to look back at prior cha...more

I needed a light and fluffy read after my past few books, and this one was perfect. It's a hockey romance. I picked it up because my husband loves hockey, and oddly enough the male romantic interest in the book had my husband's name. Go figure.[return][return]Delilah is a dog walker and boarder in New York City. When she sees a young man with an unruly Newfoundland, she steps in to help and finds out the guy is a newly-arrived hockey player for the New York Blades. As Delilah helps Stanley the d...more

I found Chasing Stanley to be a disappointing book. The first few chapters leading up to Delilah and Jason getting together were fun, light-hearted, and amusing. Jason had hero potential- I loved that he was attracted to Delilah despite her being shy and always covered in dog hair. However, once they got together it was all downhill from there.

Neither Jason nor Delilah showed any character growth throughout the novel. Delilah is painfully awkward and shy, interacting better with dogs than people...more

As always Deirdre Martin's books are an easy read. But sometime some of the characters bug me. I feel at time the characters go around and around a point before the book is over. Now, saying that doesn't mean I won't read anymore of her books because I will, it just means sometimes I frown when reading them. Poor Delilah Gould has some many social issues. So who does she choose to date? An outgoing hock player. Delilah's whole world is all about her dogs and the ones she's in charge of. Jason ta...more

This book reminded me a fair bit of the last Martin book I read, Total Rush. Although the characters are different, the conflict and arc of the relationship are quite similar. Unfortunately, I wound up feeling pretty much the same about it as that one: likable book, well-written, engaging, but on the lukewarm side if you're looking for romance. It's not bad just as a story about two badly matched people, though way doggier than I'm really interested in, but it was hard to care much about whether...more

Ever the sucker for a good romance that includes a dog, or in this case doggies, I couldn't resist reading Chasing Stanley. And I must be on a sports theme lately.

The book was a fun, fast read. I of course loved the dogs, and now want one just like Stanley, the 150 pound Newfie, who becomes the mascot for the New York Blades, his owner/daddy's professional hockey team.

The human characters are amusing, the main two, Delilah and Jason are a bit frustrating at times because they just can't seem to...more

I discovered this author on another vacation and was drawn to the romances because the first one featured a hockey player and a public relations exec. Two of my favorite careers. In a romance. What a fun read. Anyway, the author has produced a few more of these and the stories center around either a New York Blades hockey player or a member of the Dante family. So the other thing I like about these is that the characters from other stories usually make appearances so you can kinda keep up on how...more

I read this one first, the fourth one second and the fifth one third. I still haven't managed to read the first two! I'll get there though!

This book was very entertaining if you enjoy dogs or hockey. It's a real treat if you like both! If you don't know anything about hockey, that's ok too. It's a good comedic romance. Lots of things go wrong, but in the end it all goes right. This is one of those light hearted books that you want to curl up with on a cold night or rad while sunning on the dock....more

I did like this book, but Jason was a bit too in touch with himself emotionally for me, for a hockey player. Not that this guy doesn't exist...but he's american, from the mid-west, a dairy farmer and pro-hockey player who sees this woman, who is a complete mess and immediately decides that she's the one for him. Sure. It could happen, but not very likely. The dog story is cute, the dialog is witty as usual. Some of the emotional turns on a dime are a bit confounding, but overall a good, quick re...more

At one point in time I actually enjoyed this author’s books … not so much anymore. Her earlier stuff appealed to me mainly because her heroes tended to be hockey players (like one of my other all time favorite authors, Rachel Gibson!) I LOVE hockey and hockey players! The characters in her last several Blades series installments have infuriated me, though, and now that I have cracked her writing formula (which definitely doesn’t take a genius) I am now mostly bored with her predictable plots and...more

This is the best 'Blades' story I've read this far. I often found myself getting teary because of the differences and emotional struggles these 2 characters went through. It felt the closest to life, in my opinion. Loved every word of it, although I don't like dogs. At all. Except for a hot dog :)

I was so disappointed with this book. I usually love Deirdre Martin's books but this one wasn't her best. I'm not going to write a plot summary since so many on here already have. The character development in this book is awful. It's like they just wake up one day and change. You have to suspend so much about reality just to get through it. I felt that the secondary characters detracted from the main story instead of helping support it. I was just really disappointed that Ms. Martin didn't take...more

It took a long time for the main characters to get it together. So, I couldn't give this book a 5 star rating. But, it was still a cute read. The Blades series has been a good read overall.

I really liked this book, not quite enough to give it 4stars but pretty close! Both characters were interesting and attractive although, the heroine's problem with socialising wore a little thin in the end. Nevertheless, i enjoyed this book.

This was one of my favorites I loved it almost as much as Ty and Janna. Whenever I'm in a bad mood I can totally just read a Blades book and feel better.

Dog trainer Delilah Gould knows enough about dogs to see that the owner of a Newfoundland is in a lot of trouble where the dog is concerned. The dog is spirited and has the owner by a leash, when Delilah offers her help he readily accepts.

Hockey player Jason Mitchell is thrilled to be in New York, but his dog is throwing fits regularly displaying his unhappiness. Forming a new relationship with Deliah is advantagous in all areas, especially his heart. His main focus though needs to be on winning...more

i was inneed of a good sport book and i read some of the other Blades books so i had high hopes for this one but it was lacking when it came to the plot.

One time read. It was funny but the protagonists had a lot of petty issues that appeared to be a huge thing in the book.
