Sherry yard is the pastry chef that I have learned the most about pastry from--and she did not publish this book until I was well on my way down a baking path--she has a wonderful voice as an author and a great sene of what it is that people find hard to do when they do not do it for a living in the kitchen

It's a part autobiography and part recipe book. I like the simplicity of Yard's writings; they are explicit and detailed. Love the variety of the recipes, those of which are her very own creations. Would definitely attempt some of her recipes.

Contains a lot of great desserts. So far I have made the no bake mini cheesecakes. Looking forward to making mango pudding. Some of the recipes are a little exotic, but I like a good challenge!

Contains the absolute BEST cornbread recipe I've ever made. So good, it's almost a dessert.

Wonderful, interesting cookbook with great, uncomplicated recipes (along with some more challenging ones if you are up for it...as yet, I have not been...) Author Sherry Yard is the pastry chef at Spago in Beverly Hills, and in this book shares her delicious memories of a food-filled life, using anecdotes to introduce the recipes. We see her journey from a childhood in Brooklyn to culinary adventures in the Rainbow Room, NoCal, SoCal, Vienna and even at the Academy Awards. Anyone who loves readi More...

This is food porn. Some of it consists of gorgeous desserts you'll never bother to make. But it does have some good basics, and some gorgeous desserts you might actually bother to make, and some good ideas, like flan-style cheescake. Also has an interesting section on Austrian deserts.

Interesting -- lots of great recipes, but you know you're over your head when the book considers "Creme Brulee" "The Basics"!

I do wish there had been more pictures.
