Lavina Russ was born in Kansas City, Missouri, and worked with children's books in several capacity before writing her own. She worked in the old Scribner's Bookstore in NY for many years, as a freelance book reviewer for the New York Times and for Publishers Weekly, and as a consultant for a long ago NBC's series "Children Explore Books."
