I loved Need. I thought it was fresh and original, not to mention fun and exciting. Then Captivate and Entice came along and were not only awful, but so awful that they actually ruined Need for me. OMG!!!OMG!!! the cover is out!!!! It looks amazing!!!!!

I had just finished the Entice... I know. It took FOREVER for me to finally get the third book. But now I am craving for more. I am Enticed, Captivated and Need to get my hands on to the fourth book! I just can Endure it!
I really hope Endure ends with Zara and Astley getting together. Ever since we were introduced to Astley in the second book, I knew he was the one. But if Carrie thinks otherwise I am probably going to scream.

Just finished this last night and I must say, it wasn't that bad.

When you read the blurb you really get a sense that it's going to be some thing thrilling and jam packed with romance all the way through but I actually found it really 'pick up' towards the last few chapters.

The ending-to me- didn't really seem to conclude the series. There was a lot of loose ends with Nick that Zara really hadn't gone into making it feel like it was hanging.

I've had a love-hate relationship with Carrie Jones over the years. Need was the first of her books I read, and I thought it was okay her writing was choppy and hard to read, but the characters were there, not to mention the whole phobia thing. How cool is that?!

Captivate, Need's sequel, took me even further into the world of Zara White and her friends, human and pixie alike, and I became infatuated with Jones's series. Entice made me love it. Need was the first of her books I read, and I thought it was okay her writing was choppy and hard to read, but the characters were there, not to mention the whole phobia thing. How cool is that?!

Captivate, Need's sequel, took me even further into the world of Zara White and her friends, human and pixie alike, and I became infatuated with Jones's series. Entice made me love it. Imagine my heartbreak and disappointment when I found out this book was out a whole YEAR after Entice and, even then, kept getting pushed back.
Finally, a solid May release date got announced, and I just couldn't wait. I really enjoyed After Obsession, too, even though it had no ties to Jones's Need world and featured a brand-spanking-new co-author.

Endure, even though I never really liked the title (at all), was the best book in the series for me.

I feel like Carrie's writing has improved since the series started. Say goodbye to her former, choppier style of writing -- while that is warranted in some places during Endure, Carrie 2.0 has been released and is much an improvement. My favorite part of Endure is the end -- no, I'm not going to spoil it for you -- because it wrapped up the series perfectly. And -- *hint, hint* -- I always love the flash-forward-in-time epilogues. :D

The love interest in the series has always been a bit of a toss-up for me. In most series, you can usually guess who the MC will decide to end up with. Endure wasn't like that at all -- I honestly had no idea and felt like it was a flip-of-a-coin move for Jones. Either one would've benefited Zara in the long run, and I am quite happy with who she did end up with.

About those boys . . . *sigh* I feel like they were being really possessive and stupid throughout the entire book. Up until the end, I think neither of them deserved Zara and that what they really deserved was a frying pan to the face, but they redeemed themselves and stopped acting like idiots.

I loved the Norse mythology, even though I felt like a lot of it was thrown in my face. I overall just really enjoyed Endure.

One thing is for darned sure -- Carrie Jones sure can write an ending.(less)

It's over! I can't believe it. I waited so long for it and I've finished.

It ended........exactly the way I wanted it to. Thank the lord. This book was.....so good. I can't even describe my feelings.

The Need series has been a guilty pleasure of mine since book one due to the highly entertaining dialogue, the very unique characters and story line Carrie Jones created. After all, pixies aren't a paranormal creature I see a lot in the YA genre. Couple that with the use of Norse god mythology and you have a truly original series. All that being said, I do not think this was a strong conclusion, but I did still enjoy myself along the way.

Do I start with the horrible misconception on teens and their relationships and choice swearwords (eg. freaking) or with the weird obession Zara has with Nick, even though they barely know each other that well. I swear, if Astly wasnt there, i would have given it 1 star. I always felt that Nick was some sort of typical, hormonal and angry jock type. Anyways, what really bugged me were the characters. All Zara did was act like a sissy, not that pacifism is bad, but this is an...more ok, where do i begin?

For Example
Pixies=EVIL
Humans=GOOD
Astly=EVIL
Nick=GOOD
you see where i'm going here. For someone who is suposed to be a "good" person, she is really bigoted. Anyway. In the beginning, i really hated Zara's character. All she would do is sit around, depressed, vehemently hating pixies, and chanting phobias to battle her fear of them. But i am surprised to say that she has grown out from all these annoying qualities. YET WHY DOES SHE STILL MAKE ME WANT TO SLAP HER!! It may have to do with the author's aweful attempts to inspire laughter. All of these were met with eye twitches and desperate searches for a fire source. If there was one more comparison between tinker bells and 'real' pixies........i would have had an epileptic fit. The only redeeming part of this is

A)Zara understands that Nick is a sucks and Astly is amazing and

B)She becomes a pixie who can actually hurt a fly/another pixie (of course not without a "moral dilema" shortly following after).

But the biggest fault was that there was np earth-shattering climax. The ragnorak didn't happen, or rather she was able to stop it with the............wait for it..................... MAGIC OF LOVE.
LLMMMMMMMMMFFFFFFFFFAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAOOOOO
The sad/funny part here, you see, is that the previous sentence contains the truth and nothing but. I also hate how the author decided to make Nick a jerk(it didnt take much effort) so it is easy to reject him, instead of having to make her actually choose between the two. LAZY. tsk tsk(less)

Ok, I was so excited to read the finale to this series and was a little disappointed because it was only a little over 250 pages. This is the kind of book I want lots of pages to I can savor the story. Turn out, it didn't need it. My biggest complaint is that I read the other books a while ago and its hard to remember the plot/characters etc. because I've read so many other books in between. I read my reviews though so it helped a little.

i am so glad i read this series!! it wasn't a recommendation, or a review i had seen, or even a mention in some blog. no, i picked up need, the first in the series based purely on peaked interest. what a great series! this book exceeded all my expectations and left me wanting more. the ending was realistic, as in not tied with a big bow and sprinkled with sugar.

The Sisters Say: Enchanting, Endearing, and Entertaining

I read the entire Need series in the last week, and I have to say, each book gets better and better, culminating in an action-packed race to Ragnarok (aka Armageddon, aka Apocalypse, aka AH! End of the world and no more paranormal romance books)!! If you have not read this series and want something with a different species of paranormal—try the Need books by Carrie Jones. They focus on pixies (no, not Thumbelina or Tinkerbell)—evil, blue, shark teethed pixies. These creatures will keep you guessing—are they good or bad? Is it possible to be both?

For me, it was nice to see a different species in the paranormal genre mixed in with something I love even more—mythology! These books have a focus on Norse mythology which doesn’t show up much in the young adult genre; in fact, I can’t think of another book I’ve read that focuses on Norse mythology. So, it was new and exciting, seeing Carrie’s world intertwine with the gods Thor, Odin, and Hel. Carrie creates a fantastic world, rich in imagery. I felt like I could close my eyes, walk through a looking glass, and then I would right there with Zara, Nick, and Astley (mostly Astley…even the pixie thing doesn’t turn me off!)!

I really enjoyed Zara in this book. She’s struggling with the idea of being the Pixie Queen, and it’s really endearing seeing inside her head—trying to see her reconcile her past with her present and constantly contemplating the future. She’s not infallible, and that makes her struggle all the more real. I do wish she would have come into her powers a little bit more—throughout books 1 through 3, we are constantly hearing about how Zara is half-pixie, and as a result, she would be extremely powerful once turned. Although Zara did get to kick some butt, we really didn’t see her come into her own and learn to embrace her powers. The book was short, too, (less than 300 pages), so I believe there was plenty of room to add a bit more so we can see Zara grow.

Then we have the guys…Nick and Astley. No matter what team you are on, I do think you will enjoy this book, and you won’t regret who she finally chooses. Nick is his same old, were self—agitated, grumpy, and kick butt. But, we see a different side of Nick in this book. We also see his downfall—his struggle to accept Zara as a pixie. I thought his reaction was completely believable—I mean, it’s nice to see a love story where everything is not all, “Oh, I’ll love you forever, no matter if you turn crazy murderer or not.” Nick is afraid of what Zara has become, and I found the strained relationship between him and Zara to be realistic and oddly satisfying. Will they both get over their prejudices and end up together? I won’t tell, you’ll have to read for yourself!

And then there’s Astley. I love Astley. Like Zara, he struggles with who he is, but it isn’t a struggle that causes him to crumble. Instead, this struggle causes him to constantly surprise me. Zara and Astley grow closer in this book, and I loved seeing the pixie relationship progress. I do really wish there was more to the romance, though. There was no scene where I blushed because I wanted to re-read it over and over again. There was no time where I would have given my pinky finger to trade places with Zara. I wanted passion and fear and uncertainty and love all mixed into one (or two or three or four) dramatic romantic scenes, but they never came. Even so, I enjoyed being surprised over and over again by Astley. Will she choose him? I won’t tell!

There never seemed to be a dull moment in Endure. It was action-packed from the start, and whenever it seemed like all was about to settle down, some mythological creature threatening apocalypse would show up and tear down the illusion. You definitely won’t be bored with this one! There were times where I did skip over some of the description, though because I felt bogged down by it and wanted to get straight to the action.

Overall, I’m definitely glad I didn’t skip over this series. They were all very quick and fascinating reads, and although there wasn’t as much romance as I would like, I still did enjoy what we got to see between Zara and Nick and Zara and Astley. Alas (I’m speaking Astley talk), love triangles do not both me!

So, if you want to see a different kind of mythology and a different kind of species to pluck you out of your paranormal funk, this is the series to read!

Endure started right after Entice where Zara and friends are trying to stop Frank and his pixies from destroying Bedford and the rest of the world.

I really loved the first three books. I was so excited for this one and when it came in the mail i danced around and couldn't wait to read it. But then i started and found myself not wanting to read it any longer. The plot was getting a bit dull and boring and some things that were happening were a bit too unrealistic.

I’ve read the whole series. From Need, Captivate, Entice, all the way to Endure, I’ve fell in love with the characters. But as soon as you find out the story of Zara and her friends continues longer, it becomes painfully obvious that something happens to one of the main characters. But now that the series is over, you kind of want Zara to fall deeper into her crap life.

I really didn’t like Nick. I thought their relationship was going to end before the chance of Entice came up. How so right I was. Nick, the big bad alpha wolf, was a controlling boy who was a slightly bad hypocrite. He had said in Endure that ‘Astley had lied’ but in so in fact that Nick lied about his parents. The probably hit home in the first book. I could understand why he would hide that, but the lie was completely fake and translucent and it didn’t help the fact that Devyn had to tell Zara. Even though Nick was always controlling, it kind of equals out with his supposedly good looks and oh so charming comments. Taken from Endure page 5 “The argument is pointless. We’ve had it before. Standing up, I stare at Nick’s broad back as he faces the sink. The muscles of his shoulders work as he moves his arms to turn on the faucet.” Back muscles are so delightful. The instant affection between Zara and Nick was surprising in Need.

Astley. Let’s talk about Astley. He is the sweetest non-up-to-date pixie ever. His whole personality is like a sweet lollipop. The outside might look sweet or creepy, the inside is a surprise, but you’ll never forget the stick... Okay, maybe not a lollipop but you get the point. But when Astley ‘betrayed’ Nick and Zara, I couldn’t help assume that he was a jerk and should die in hell, Christian hell, not hell. But of course, the way Astley was introduced and built into the stories there was no way that Astley could do that to Zara. I bet it would’ve been hot to see him all evil and things.

Zara is adorable, much like Issie. Her humor is very nice. Her emotions sometimes overtake her, which is kind of an irritating trait. I admire how strong willed she is. She always cares about anyone, in example to giants and Loki. She even panicked when she killed Isla even though she wanted to kill every human in the world and killed Astley’s first love.

I’m so glad Betty is back. It really mad me mad that she left.

Carrie Jones must have some kind of 30 Seconds to Mars fetish. Or that’s what has been on her mind since there were several references towards the group.

Endure is a very Enticing book. It draws you in the with awakrdness of the reunited couple and keeps up with the drama. It carries you through their failures into more traps and uniqueness of the make believe characters. I love this series. I would recommend this series and book to any of my friends. Also, the inserts before each chapter cracks me up.

It's no secret that I didn't care for ENTICE (book 3 in this series), but was interested enough in the love triangle (I know, sue me!) to grab this on NetGalley. What I really liked in this story was the evolution of pixie-Zara. I am not a pacifist by any means, so I never really connected with her. In ENDURE, she understands that sometimes you have to do more than sign petitions in order to keep the people you love safe.Jones did a great job of building Zara's new character with keeping some semblance of her old self. She was different, but still the same girl at heart. Everyone saw that, except for one pretty important person.

Nick, whom she risked everything to save from Valhalla, is a huge jerk. Now that she has changed in order to save him, he doesn't want anything to do with her. It actually made me kinda happy because I didn't want her with him anyway. In the last book, Zara and Nick annoyed me. I didn't see the appeal of him AT ALL, and wanted her to choose Astley. I am forever Team Astley! He was fantastic in this book. Patient, strong, and humble. I love that even as king, he has a flaw - he can't land from flight properly. I just find that endearing. THEY BELONG TOGETHER! Zara made a big decision in the end, but I'm not sure Jones really made it very clear, which is a bad thing. I still have a few questions about it and even went back to read a couple of sections of the story to see if I missed something. I would expound more, but that would lead into spoiler territory, and I try not to go there.

At the end of it all, I am happy to say that I was surprised by ENDURE. I felt that there was an actual plot that was kept to, and it was interesting. If you're like me and have had issues with this series in the past, or are looking for a good faerie adventure, try this series. Even though I had my moments with it, you may end up loving it!(less)

Entice is my favourite book in this entire series. It had more action, more emotion, and most importantly, it's about Zara and her relationship with her friends. And there's Astley being so amazing as well.

With Endure, I felt Astley was being shortchanged. Jones spent many pages in the first two books cultivating Zara's relationship with Nick, and you could totally feel the passion from the way they behave towards each other; when Astley is with Zara, there's not as much passion, which sucks bi...more

Carrie has a large, skinny white dog and a fat cat. Both like fudgicles. Only the cat likes potatoes. This may be a reason for the kitty’s weight problem (Shh… don’t tell). Carrie has always liked cowboy hats but has never owned one. This is a very wrong thing. She graduated from Vermont College’s MFA program for writing. She has edited newspapers and poetry journals and has recently won awards from the Maine Press Association and also been awarded the Martin Dibner Fellowship as well as a Maine Literary Award.

Here’s the lowdown about Carrie…

1. Carrie can not drink coffee. It makes her insane. Do not give her caffeine.
2. Carrie is very responsive to loving strokes on the hair, kind of like a puppy. However, do not do this without asking first unless you are a ridiculously handsome man or an editor who is about to offer her a trillion dollars for the first draft of her novel.
3. Carrie is secretly really, really shy even though she’s pathetically outgoing in person. She has a very hard time calling people. So, if you want to talk to her, make the first move. And, if you’re her in-Maine female best friend, Jennifer, do NOT get mad at her because she is so bad at returning emails.
4. Carrie sometimes wears mismatched socks, if you do not think this is cool, do not tell her. You will hurt her feelings.
5. Carrie really, really wants you to like her books. Please like her books. PLEEEAASSSEEEE. She’ll be your best friend forever. That is, if you want a friend who is shy about calling and emailing and who wears mismatched socks and can’t drink caffeine and likes being pet on the head. Hhmmm….
6. Carrie is not above begging.
7. Carrie, like Belle in TIPS ON HAVING A GAY (ex) BOYFRIEND drinks Postum. It’s for the same reason, too.
8. Carrie loves Great Pyrenees dogs. They are huge and white, and furry and it looks like they have white eyeliner and mascara on, which is way too cute. Do you have one? Send a picture!
9. Carrie lives in Maine. She has a hard time with this in the winter. It is bleak in Maine in the winter. Imagine everything shades of gray and brown and no green anywhere except for in people’s noses. This is Maine in Winter. Maine in summer is the best place in the world, so it’s a trade-off. Feel free to invite Carrie to your house in the winter, but not if it’s in Greenland, Canada, or anywhere north of Florida.
10. Forget that. She’d still probably come.
