This is the first book I have read by Megan Chance. I don't normally like books written in the first person, and that was a distraction for me. Despite that, this was an interesting read. Set in the Yakima Valley in 1885, it is the story of Eli and Lora, a couple struggling to overcome grief and to survive farming in a harsh land, and young Will whom Eli hired to watch the farm while he went away to a logging camp to earn money.
